But im not a moron hogan is the greatest thing that ever happen to wrestling period. Even though i later became more of a macho fan i know who did more for the business hulk changed the business

    Hogan was the ULTIMATE worldwide box office attraction! Flair was the ULTIMATE total package! The scary part about Flair was he NEVER had a great marketing machine built around him in his prime years. Crockett Promotions had an AWESOME ROSTER back in the day. With guys who could have been HUGE mainstream wise if they had the machine built around them to do just that. Flair is at the top of list!
    Even though Flair has become transcendant mainstream wise since he retired, he could have DONE THE SAME in his prime. IF he had the machine Hogan, Savage, and Piper had back in the day. You Tube and the WWE machine had done a lot to help Flair's legacy get the props it deserves. Rappers who WEREN'T BORN during his prime or just babies are HUGE FLAIR FANS! F

      Hogan was a great in ring worker yea he later decided to just stay with his 3 sets of moves once he returned to wwf as did stone cold steve austin. Hogan put every company he worked for on map he was past his prime in wcw n he made them a force!!!
      I think had hogan flair and savage wrestled in this era i think savage wouldve been the best of the 3 especially the way he was in his prime. Flair is lucky savage ended up getting picked up by vince mcmahon had he been on nwa savage wouldve taken it.

      @@JonDoe-fo3kl Great points! The thing about Savage was he was the NEW AGE TOTAL PACKAGE in the 80's! WAYY ahead of his time in terms of combining the aerial ability, technical skills, mic skills, main event IT factor, and the ability to be great as a face or heel. There was NOBODY in the 80's who put it all together in that type of package. The guys like HBK, Jericho, Eddie, Angle, Daniel Bryan, Punk, Rollins, AJ, etc. ALL come from that Savage blueprint in their own way.
      Flair was a great total package as well in his prime. BUT Savage added the great aerial ability-athleticism on top of it. U had high flyers back in the day in the 80's like a Steamboat, Kevin Von Erich, Snuka, Bobby Eaton, Koko, etc. And even junior heavyweight type guys like Dynamite Kid, Tiger Mask, etc. But NONE OF THEM were the total package Savage was. Not even close.
      So when it comes to Savage vs. Flair, Savage's moveset would TRANSLATE better that Naitch's today's game. Flair would still be awesome, a main eventer, and world champ. A peak Savage and Flair would be today's WWE's top two stars HANDS DOWN! But with today's WWE, Savage's blend of aerial skills, technical skills, and a great motor for relentless brawling would fit in great. And he was so athletic I'm sure he would add new aerial tricks the way HBK did in his comeback.

      I did too! U couldn't deny Hogan's star power. And Vince had a machine to get the most out of it. And made Hogan and others a mainstream force. BUT the thing is Flair had JUST AS MUCH star power potential as Hogan. But in a different way. He just didn't have the machine behind him to get the most out of it. Because Crockett didn't have a machine in place to get the most out of an edgy, cool ass product that was blood, guts, and great in ring action. U had Flair and the Horsemen, Dusty, Road Warriors, Magnum, Rock N Roll, Nikita. Later u had Sting and Luger.
      ALL THESE GUYS if marketed right could have been just as big as Vince's stars. And Flair would have been at the forefront. I had friends who HATED wrestling because of WWF's presentation. BUT they weren't aware of JCP because they didn't have TBS. Once they saw JCP for the first time, they were HOOKED!!
      I considered Flair and Savage the EPITOME of a total package back in the day. The top two. Flair for the guys who were more technical and ground based. Savage for the guys who mixed in the aerial assault with that. But once again, Savage got to take advantage of Vince's machine. Flair with a PROPER machine to take advantage of his attributes in his prime would have been ALL OVER the mainstream!

      @@bizil100 Totally agree with everything you said. I grew up in a time when you had the WWF and the NWA. Both were pro wrestling organizations but they were so totally different! Like night and day (and I watched them both). Vince obviously had the money to spend and he milked the Hulk Hogan cash cow for all it was worth (nothing against Hogan). The WWF seemed to be consistently geared toward kids at that time (even I noticed that as a kid myself). You had insane merchandising...shirts, lunch boxes, cartoons! Crockett’s outfit was lamer in some respects (basically because he did NOT have the money) but the wrestling was better, imho. Even as a kid, I much preferred it over the more cartoony WWF. Again, I did watch them both but there was such a difference...JCP was indeed edgier and more “adult”...with the WWF you had more glitz, bigger arenas, more of an almost circus atmosphere, I thought. Broader characters. It really shocked the hell out of me when Flair went over to the WWF back in the early 90s. I was excited but so apprehensive.I really thought he wouldn’t “fit in” (because Flair was just on a whole other level) but they got it to work, somehow.

    • @bizil100
      @bizil100 3 года назад +1

      @@scottmoore1614 Great post! Perfect breakdown of the difference between WWF and NWA. I was a kid in the 80's too. And I indeed watched both products. And enjoyed both. BUT I preferred the NWA as well. Many of us as kids ARE ALREADY more drawn to edgier adult things. Things like looking at Playboy and Penthouse, Rambo, Terminator, Redd-Foxx-Richard Pryor-George Carlin comedy, etc. ALL THESE entities were mainstream EDGY products. JCP was the perfect edgy type of product to go national with back in the day. It was the perfect contrast to the WWF. Just didn't have the money or business savvy to take advantage of it. Thus had to sell to Turner.
      In a PERFECT world, Turner would have invested money into JCP for marketing and production. WHILE JCP was able to keep most of their edge. Dusty and Crockett would handle the booking side of things. While Turner handles the marketing, production, and financial side of things. Plus JCP had the roster and edge to bring in fans who NEVER thought about watching wrestling. Because of the cartoonish-circus feel that the WWF had at the time.

    Some of you posters GOTTA UNDERSTAND that Hogan was AWA's biggest star BEFORE he came back to the WWF! In the AWA, that's where Hulkamania was created. But while Hogan was in the AWA, Andre, Dusty, and Flair were EASILY bigger stars in more places than Hogan! U could even throw guys like Brody over Hogan at that time too. Hogan was killing it in the AWA though. Just hadn't been as many places with the new Hulkamania swag yet.
    ONCE Vince got Hogan, Vince gave Hogan a national and later worldwide stage to dominate. Vince had a machine that TOTALLY CHANGED the game of what a draw could be. And could really enhance guys EVEN MORE who already had MAJOR IT FACTOR! So once that ball got rolling, Hogan DID pass by Flair, Dusty, and Brody. Andre was ALSO under the WWF too. So it took Hulk a bit longer to pass Andre by. BECAUSE Andre was ALREADY the biggest star in the industry BEFORE Hulk got rolling in general.
    Flair and Dusty never had machines built around them in THEIR prime years like Hogan had. And when they came to the WWF, millions of fans ONLY WATCHED the WWF at that point. So of course they weren't going to be familiar with them often times.
    And PLUS the machine wasn't built for their more gritty, adult oriented style. Hogan was PERFECT for that machine. Flair and Dusty still got over huge eventually up there. BUT the machine wasn't built for them the way it was for Hogan! They weren't allowed to be truly themselves up north.
