I never hated the prequels, yeah they have problems but you can still watch them. Off course the original trilogy is way better. I can still watch the RedLetterMedia reviews just for the comedy even though I don't fully agree with them. And yeah there are so many films that I hate too death but I would never wish for the director to die or get killed simply because I don't like their films. So it sucks what happened to some of the cast in the Phantom Menace.

Still my favorite of the prequels, especially for that third act final battle in the Volcano. Say what you will about this movie, but that lightsaber fight at the end is still one of best lightsaber battles in the franchise right next to the Luke/Vadar fights in ESB and ROTJ. Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan was great casting too, and I can't fucking wait for his show.

General Grevious was a cool villain. I think he was the only character in the universe shown on screen who used lightsabers but couldnt use the force. I thought it was an interesting twist cuz I had thought only jedis used lightsabers.

I remember your old prequel reviews, they were actually good in my opinion.
Great review for the best film of the prequels.
And I agree attack of the clones is the worst film of the prequels. Other than cool fight scenes? The film is too long and boring.

Respect for admitting RLM influenced your old reviews. Unlike RLM though you didn’t become a shill for the Force Awakens when it came out. You were one of the few who didn’t hold back and because of that I respect you more than RLM.
Personally I’ve always liked the prequels (especially 3), and never liked the Force Awakens. How anyone considered Jar Jar Abrams a upgrade from George Lucas I will never understand. Really shows how much the ones who hated the prequels the most became shills later on. I’m glad the prequels get the respect they deserve now but unfortunately it’s too late.

I appreciate the radical change in art design attempted with the prequels (the fact that we got to see new bustling metropolises like Coruscant), I had a lot of problems with The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones but for the most part I was still entertained by them unlike the utter garbage Star wars has become under Kathleen Kennedy.. Having said that I wouldn't be heart broken if they were never made, prequels tend to lead to a slippery slope of lack of imagination and creativity but George Lucas managed to pull it off with a radical departure in art design and the way technology was envisage in a much earlier star wars age..

The only good thing about Disney Star Wars is that the prequels and George Lucas got redeemed, the prequels are miles better then Disney's junk, better at world building, better at action scenes, better with Palapatine's plotting politics;George Lucas had a vision, Disney is just shite!

Yes it's the best out of the prequels yet still flawed. I do feel the same for what happened to the actors in episode 1 who got hated on because of the characters they played that got so much hate. I think episode 1 gets too much hate there are good moments in it as you said.

Really good movie, best lightsaber fights put to film, my history with the prequels long story short, loved em as a kid then i didn't like em then when the sequels came out they grew on me, they still have flaws but Lucas why trying something different and he had a full vision, unlike Disney where it's a million people creating fan fiction, but his vision grew on me and I really like Revenge of the Sith

I’m the total opposite when it comes to the prequels, I loved them when I was a kid and I still love them now as an adult. I love and like every Star Wars film. I’ve said it before but I’m in the minority. I know and I’m completely fine with that. I’ll be honest, the one thing I’ll give people who hate the new Star Wars is I’m glad a lot of people are starting to warm up to the prequels. I love ROTS. It’s my third favorite Star Wars film.

Good point about the pregnancy. The whole trilogy of movies, besides the first one seems to truncate what should have been a long time. In the original trilogy, events had already been happening in the background. That’s the setup. That’s the purpose of the opening crawl. Episodes 4-6 seem to be a few days each, like with Flash Gordon.

To clear one thing up about "nine months pregnant thing," Padme was wearing a ton of robes to cover up her baby bump. But they should've kept it where it was originally going to be at four hours.

I rewatched AOTC recently and it holds up really well. I was disappointed in the cinema but more because it was so dense, it was almost too much to take in. But it's gotten better with age imo. It's insane that Hollywood gave Golden Raspberry awards to Lucas for the screenplay and Hayden for the acting. It was a pure act of vindictiveness and spite. Just like giving Rian a Saturn award for best writing for TLJ fifteen years later. That right there tells you everything about Hollywood, it's spiteful and corrupt, and it always hated George and Star Wars. They gloried in ruining Star Wars these last few years. They wanted to ruin it for decades. Prequels haters honestly don't have a leg to stand on, the Prequels are the product of love and passion, the Disney sequels are the product of hatred and cynicism. Even the CGI in AOTC is still great, go watch Spider-Man from the same year if you want to see some horribly aged CGI. And Hayden is a good actor imo, he's excellent in Shattered Glass opposite Hank Azaria. That's a great movie about a bullshitting liar who worked for the NYT and got exposed for just making up shit, it's based on a real guy. A great movie from the innocent days before we realized they were all bullshitting liars.

Hello, I totally agree with you with what you said about Anakin going over to the dark side. It felt a little bit forced and too fast, as you pointed out, he felt remorseful saying: “What have I done?” and straight after that: “I’ll do whatever you... ask.”

I love Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, it's the best movie in The Star Wars prequel trilogy and I like Star Wars: Episode I and II and the lightsaber battle between Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi at the end of the movie is great and it was a great way to complete the saga between The Star Wars prequel trilogy and The original Star Wars trilogy since the tagline of this movie is "The saga is complete."

This is still my favorite out of the prequel trilogy. I remember when I was a little kid and they had all the advertising for the film. Like when it got to the lava scene, I couldn't even watch it that scene. What bugs me about the "fans" of the newer trilogy, for them to wish bad fortune on the actors and bash them, that's not a fan in my book. And the movie novelization clears a lot up (the dialogue in the book version was WAY better). What are your thoughts on the Obi Wan show?

When I first saw the prequels, I liked them, heck I remember liking AOTC the best, which I cant tell why. But I also hated on them because it was popular also. But I trully never hated any of them and would rather watch any over the new ones. I do like ROTS and would say its the best of the prequels, although it does have its flaws like you mentioned. I also think Anakin's turn could have been better as well as other things. But Id still say its the last truly good Star Wars movie.

I think you are ignoring the back story of Anakin Skywalker, born into slavery, constantly belittled by the Jedi order, got visions of his mom and telling Yoda who told him to ignore and it ends up happening & then now visions of his pregnant spouse dying despite not supposed to be married or reproduce under Jedi law, plus Palpatine was the one of the few people who was kind to Anakin, personally think Christenson was the best part of the prequels

I don’t like George Lucas revealing everything in the prequels (e.g. showing Yoda, depicting Anakin becoming Darth Vader). It’s like he took a slinky and unwound it. I would have dropped hints of these things so that audiences watching from episode one onward would be surprised at the twists in episodes 4-6. These prequels should have featured a growing relationship of trust actually shown between Obi-Wan and Anakin.

3:39 DAMN! I never knew that's terrible Matt it wasn't has fault that the character was very bad I blame Lucas for that IMHO.
5:20 Agreed I never really cared for that one at all I munch rather watch EP-1&EP-3 over that one those films have a little more going for it.
22:41 I always remember as the villain in ''Running Scared''1986 film
24:39 That sounds like a good idea LOL!
A very awesome job on the review bro on a film that has its problems but still more watchable then the newer ''Star Wars'' films that disney has done lately I agree with you on ''The Phantom Menace'' really one prequel is all that was needed bro.

The prequels do have a lot of problems I'll say that, they don't have the best dialogue, Hayden Christensen not really delivering the greatest performance as Anakin, the love story between him and Padme Amidala not working out the best, and some characters such as Jar Jar Binks who kind of take you out of the movie, but at the same time, I do think that these prequels have a lot of positives to them, whether it be Ewan Mcgregor as Obi Wan Kenobi doing an awesome job in all three films, the villians like Palpatine, Darth Maul, Count Dooku and General Grevious, awesome lightsaber fights such as the one in The Phantom Menace, or the battle in the volcanic planet between Obi Wan and Anakin, John Williams absaloutley knocking it out of the park with the score like Duel of the Fates, and of just how they did not ruin the characters or the story of the original trilogy which I will never forgive the Disney Star Wars films for doing. Also this is gon'na sound weird to some people but I actually would rank this as my second favorite Star Wars film behind The Empire Strikes Back.

Hey matt thanks for the review, really enjoyed it. I agree all the prequels are much better than any of the new SW fanfic films. I put RotS as the best, closely followed by phantom menace. All the villains in these are great compared to SW sequels with emo bitch darth vader wanabe, the lame snoke who gets killed off like a joke and palpitine in rise of skywalker who had no presence.
I always thought Jake Gyllenhaal woulda been great anakin replacement. Hes only 1 year older than Hayden and a much better actor

I know this is going to be a very unpopular opinion but it’s my opinion and I’m sticking with it. I really hate the prequels revenge of the Sith was OK but it still had the same flaws that the Phantom Menace, and attack of the clones had too much needless CGI, Long and boring, and they contradict the original trilogy. So I personally think that the sequel trilogy is so much better than the prequel’s, Now don’t get me wrong I love the original trilogy and I always will But I just really connected with the sequel trilogy a lot more. I really liked the movies, I liked the characters, and the story and dare I say this but my favorite movie in the sequel trilogy so far hands-down is the rise of Skywalker I think that movie was hands-down the best movie in the entire sequel trilogy. The force awakens was a fresh start of revitalizing the franchise, The last Jedi was the Star Wars movie we may not wanted but it’s the Star Wars movie we needed, and the rise of Skywalker just really did a great job of bringing closure to the franchise. Now these are all just my opinions and I don’t expect anybody to agree with me but no need to overreact and sound like an angry fanboy whenever someone like me is having a mind of there own.
