Because fanboy logic. They feel like AMD overhypes everything and Intel and Nvidia don't. Kabylake was over-hyped too, and performs not even that much higher than Skylake. 1080 was way way overhyped when they were comparing it to the latest Titan. Heck, Nvidia even false advertised and sped up a video with the 970 causing a lawsuit against them. AMD has done very similar things with their GPU like the mass overhype of the 480.
Tho to be fair the x480 is extremelly competitive right now. AMD pulled a miracle in drive optimization. It is starting to beat the gtx1060 in neweer titles and even gained some performance in dx11... I just wish they were this optimized since launch, now nobody will look at new fps charts from games released in Christmas, people have the wrong picture in mind from July that RX480 loses to the 1060 a bit hard in most titles. This time with Vega i would want a fully optimized chip since launch. With Ryzen, since it has to work at 100% from launch because it's a cpu so follow different rules, i hope they get it right. So i'm ok with them still trying to perfect it's drivers and see how much overclocking they can push, i'm 100% sure they are still working on it, reason why they refuse to show it.
It's not really Intel or Nvidia overhyping things. Intel just launches things and gives accurate data. Nvidia hypes stuff as the fastest or best and actually releases things that are the fastest. AMD announced massive perf/watt increases and they are there if you win the silicon lottery and get a good chip (90W RX 480s) but the bad chips are the majority really (130W RX 480s). The marketing was right, they had that perf/watt but the production let them down. Now Ryzen and Vega. I think Ryzen hype is maybe a touch too high but we've got reason for it, all the benchmarks so far are good, going by these demonstration it matches a 6900K without boost so that's promising. Vega, my god the hype for Vega is out of control. Prediction of Vega actually trying to beat Volta and not Pascal. AMD being very coy with answering which version of Vega is running in machines leading people to believe that the entry level Vega is 4K 60fps ready. It's a bloody mess.
because AMD always overhype their products. and end up not meeting expectations. during this "hype" period AMD fans become delusional pieces of shit. and when its all said and done (after AMD fails to deliver) these said AMD fans ALWAYS use the "but AMD is cheap AF intel sux." ignoring hard facts. much like xbox fanboys against SONY nowadays.
For people that like intel better - you do realize that the better the amd CPU, the more intel will have to improve to catch up? This means better frames for both sides
People think brands work more like sports teams and that their favorite has to be the best (and they may even claim that it is even if it happens to not be). That's not really how competitive markets/companies work but this fanboy-ism shit happens everywhere regardless.
AMD putting an Nvidia GPU into their test machines actually says quite a bit about their company. They aren't stuck so far up their asses that they are blinded by their own marketing nonsense, unlike blue and green team.
Its Team Red sticking out their tongue that now can do just as well as against team blue and using team green. Team Red will come back this year no doubt
Market dictates the price. The RRP was the same, but because of the highly exponential demand the real world price also went up. It's literally Business 101. If Apple or Samsung or whatever decide to release a 500 USD phone but will only make 5000 of them, then it turned out these phones could fly to the moon, then those phones would skyrocket in price regardless of what the RRP is. I highly doubt AMD foresaw the bitcoin craze and I very much highly doubt they told all the vendors to jack up the prices once they saw miners stocking up in them. And if you were smart, you would've bought the cards 2 months later when all the miners were dumping them on eBay for pennies when the BTC fad died. Again, basic Business 101.
They shouldn't trust him, he is notorious for dropping and breaking hardware. That is why some vendors won't let him do anything to their unreleased products.
I gadda be honest..I just look forward to the AMD fanboys shitposting on forums for the next few years like Intel fanboys have done. can't search the web for decent toilet paper without an Intel fanboy undermining the whole subject to gloat and suggest a team blue CPU.
we dont know what it will cost. If its 800 bucks, its not really a good deal. I might as well buy an intel, because at the end of the day, that will be the better one. Else tehy would let it run at their highest equivalent clock in the demos.
Rare Person I mean if a much cheaper cpu can perform with an i7-6900k on equal. We could all have a gaming machine, which costs 2000 today for much cheaper when Ryzen and Vega get launched
I think even though ryzen + Vega will be a good combo you won't see it become popular till near late 2018 because a mass of the market who will be looking to upgrade has probably already upgraded late last year and the newcommers who don't research as much will just go NVidia and intel
Squilliam_Fancyson _ Is it too hard to tell that they need the most powerful GPU, which is from NVIDIA at the moment, to limit the variables for a decent comparison of their CPU?..
Because there's no way that an rx480 will cause a bottleneck, and they can't use a Vega card because no one owns them to have any sort of frame of reference.
Intrisity I'm an AMD fanboy but they've pulled shitty cpu prices out before too. They were after all the first company to charge 1000 for a performance cpu.
Yikes, I've always avoided AMD as I felt when I paid a little extra for my intel I was getting the performance, but if this can compete with an 8 core intel, and be a fraction of the cost, I'd definitely consider replacing my CPU with one.
Intrisity when amd released the first fx chip it annihilated everything Intel and via had, and it was gouged like hell, the amd64 and dual core releases were both landmarks and they gouged both of those
I guess I just buy at the wrong time. I'll be looking in the next six months for a 6/8core CPU as building a sperate PC to record and help with editing isn't really my idea of fun. (plus the electric bill).
you have found the super rare AMD engineer raja, who appears once every year on the CES conference. share this with 5 people and your next PC build will be blessed with high overclockability, low power draw and the lowest prices on ebay bids!
So, after 8 years, AMD is finally back? Great! We honestly needed that! No, really! I mean have you seen the price Intel is asking for their +0.3GHz? AMD really needs to match/beat them this generation for Intel to start trying again. -Before you call me a fanboy, I am currently running an I5 5500 and I have built/bought 6 different computers, all with Intel CPUs. -
I agree, Intel is becoming more and more like oculus and apple, their shit is overpriced beyond belief. I recently built my first member of the PC master race and because of the games I play I had to spend an ass load of money on a 6600k. AMD being competitive could bring a whole lot of people into pc building by lowering the average price it costs to build an entry level pc
Patrick Filios Precisely. Also, more cores = better performance while using CPU-intense applications (and games). The way technology is heading now, it seems AMD will gain quite the advantage over Intel in the following years. I have an I5-6500 and an OCed 1070 so the first thing I will need to upgrade is going to be the CPU. Might as well throw in a better motherboard and go team red-green? XD
It is all about pricing right now, If the price is right, amd will be king this year. But considering how long they have worked on this it might not be as cheap as people imagine.
What Linus didn't mention is that Battlefield 1 is running on max settings in 4k which makes the GPU becoming a bottleneck. When a Swedish reporter went there and asked if he could lower the resolution to see the actual difference between the Intel and AMD cpus, AMD didn't allow him to do that. Even my old i7 2600k overclocked, would probably with ease get 60fps in BF1 which this demo shows. So i'm still a bit worried that AMD won't have too much to show off actually.
ChrisKadaver right cause gamers drop 5k$ to run games at 720p and low settings. I get your point, to test cpu is to remove as much GPU usage as possible. But they wanted to prove that their chip could hang at 4k ultra, just like Intel.
Honestly, I don't understand why they'd decide to show off a CPU by running a game. The performance bottleneck for games has been the GPU for years now. If you want to show off a CPU you need to do stuff that GPUs aren't good at, like finding primes, computing digits of pi, or compiling C++. Yes, it's not as visually interesting as this bullshit, but it's a way more useful comparison.
i dont really care about this dumbass war between AMD and intel but from just scrolling through the comments I only see the AMD fans trying to start an argument...
should run very well on the new chips. The chips now have their own form of hyper threading and its been said that they perform MUCH better on single core performance. They will also authomatically overclock themselves... so basically, it should be able to run arma 3
Arma 3 is a testament to how crippling badly un-optimized games can be..... Arma 3 makes systems cry not because it has amazing graphics, it is because it is designed to run like games ran in 2007
Ive always been pro intel and nvidia but buying an RX 480 because im too cheap to get a 10 series from Nvidia has really made me see what AMD is doing. Now that im seeing this new RYzen processor its getting me excited for my new computer that im planning on building along with the new Vega gpus. AMD used to not even be a competitor but now i have full faith that they are going to deliver a great product at reasonable pricepoints. Unlike intel the last couple years especially with that kaby lake bullshit.
guess it depends on your frame of reference. there was a time when AMD had 64 bit CPUs and Intel didn't. at that time their product lineup kinda smashed Intel, the only bad part was that there wasn't a lot of support for it =\ as weird as it sounds, AMD has usually pushed pretty beefy hardware for the price and in many cases it's been more powerful as far as their graphics cards go, their drivers just haven't ever been as efficient. hopefully the stuff AMD has in the pipeline pushes things forward again cuz Intel and Nvidia are getting lazy. hopefully more devs start using Vulkan so there's an actual alternative to giving Microsoft, Intel and Nvidia all my money
As a long time amd fanboy (the first pc that was entirely mine was a k5, and the first pc I bought and built myself was a thunderbird), this is exciting news. 5 years ago I gave up on AMD and bought an i5 3570k but it would be nice for AMD to get back to making competitive cpus at a competitive price.
Horyzental...like a flatline... flatline means death... Skylake Ryzen = Skynet Born? + Kaby Lake stand for KB-Lake = Killer Bots - Lakes of blood... we´re doomed... MOM, WHERE`S MY MEDS!?
Nisco Racing I'm assuming to ensure there is no gpu bottleneck to properly show CPU performance. I thought an r9295x2 might do the trick but it still probably wouldn't be enough??
They've said that this is their high end chip. Therefore there must be lower end ones, probably a 6 core and 4 core. There are also leaks suggesting the SR3(4c/8t), SR5(6c,12t) and SR7 (the one shown, 8c/16t)
Death"Three Reich's You're Out"2508 now there cores will be on par with intels in terms of single performace power. just wait and see. AMD have put alot more money inot reasearch and have increased there CPus performance, also the old r9 390 and such was better then the 900 series, the exact same generation.
AMD and Intel war is dumb AMD is good, not the best, but works and is cheap Intel is good, hyper-threading but extremely expensive, its more about bragging rights imo Theres nothing wrong with being on a budget and building an AMD system. EDIT - There is also nothing wrong with having the cash to spare to build an Intel machine. Its just about your needs.
Yea people missing the point. There's no way that either one can control the full spectrum. AMD has always been about value performance for money. Nvidia has been at the top in pure performance. But how many PCs out there are top tier 1%. Upgrading parts every year is expensive, let someone else pay that GTX 1080 premium at release
I can agree too this, and it's why I've been building almost all my desktops with AMD chips for the past 26 years, as they have always given me the most bang for the buck, and as the other poster said let some other sucker pay top dollar for not much of a performance difference.
Dude, stfu. That's how things have been but you can't use how things have been as an argument that new things will be dumb because the old things were. You know. Because they're new.
Effin hell, probably have to sell 6700k and get one of those ryzen chips soon. Was using a fx 8350,went for 6700k but watching ryzen vids... i want amd again :D
Dear everyone confused about them using a GTX GPU in the system: when measuring differences between CPUs it's best to use the fastest GPU on the market, so that the effect of the CPU on performance can be easily seen without worrying whether or not the GPU is holding back performance. Nvidia currently has the most powerful card on the market, so that's the GPU they need to use to show off their CPU.
I'm on a new build. with an i5 6600k and a gtx 1070--so very much green and blue--and I'm still excited as fuck for vega and ryzen. We need some serious competition again, no matter which team you're on. I hope ryzen becomes the next best 8-core cpu, for a better value--force Intel to work harder, and us consumers reap the benefits.
Intel got too lazy with Kabylake. I'm hoping their next batch will give us what we actually want. All I want is an 8 core 16 threads at an affordable price
Kabylake is just a "filler" for them. They needed time because of the problems with the new manufacturing process. Cannonlake will be badass and actually it will be the real competitor against AMD ZEN.
Nisco Racing Oh I am as well. I have a soft spot in my heart for AMD. I like their business model and pro consumer practices. Running an AMD 280 as of now : ).
The gaming community needs to embrace AMD, love them, make babies with them, they are lowering the prices for everyone on every level for Nvidia and Intel. Look, Nvidia and Intel are good, but they have been getting too comfortable sucking the money out of our wallets, and AMD is here to give them a reality check in that department. AMD, Nvidia, and Intel all make good products, but AMD is the one that keeps the prices low for US, the gaming community. #MakeTeamRedGreatAgain Everyone, buy the AMD product when it comes out, these products are looking to be amazing and we need to recognize that, get off our pedastools, and do what is right for the gaming community. By buying AMD, you are helping every gamer everywhere on earth.
LinusTechTips Shots fired. CES was great fun this year. Flir got the DUO working on Day 2, looks like it could be a cool thing to have for some content creators.
Henry Jiang Well I think it's actually brilliant of them to also turn your PC into a space heater. It's so brilliant in fact that a while back EVGA tried to emulate that functionality, but the public didn't like it. (I'm kidding ofc, lol)
It's not just that it may not be ready nobody at home or even in the general tech media community actually has something to compare vega to vega seeing the cup difference
Tiparium Dude it's about buying everything in November and getting great deals. I bought an i7-6700K for $250 on Newegg. I also got a 750GB Crucial SSD for $120, a Dell 27inch 1080P IPS monitor with Freesync for $140 I can go on. I doubt AMD will sell a chip faster than a i7-6700K for $250, at best they'll match it, but then who cares.
I think it's also about waiting for a 'paradigm shift' to happen. For example I got my first(and so far still my fastest...) PC from my parents in 2007. It had a mid-end 2.33Ghz core2duo wiith a 8800GT. Even then the Core2Duo was already bottlenecking high end games. My younger brother got his first pc 2 years later with a first generation i7-920 4 core/8 threads... To this day he can still play the latest games to this day effortlessly. Even his HD 5850 can play games like Witcher 3 on lower settings. How often have I wished I hadn't gotten a Core2Duo system throughout the years, lol... If I had even gotten a Core2Quad instead of a Duo I would have had a much more future proof system. To translate it to modern day. Ever since the first generation i7 (maybe the 2nd, as that had a significant improvement over the first) the CPU market has been increasingly stagnant, so it wouldn't be that bad to have an older generation i3/5/7 cpu. Now with AMD releaseing a fully new CPU architecture things might actually really change up things in the landscape. So basically ,yeah, you should've waited a few months.
Duranarts That's also true honestly. Ever since i3/i5/i7 came out there's been no need to upgrade and this doesn't seem to be changing in the near future.
I love how far Linus has gotten in this industry. he is absolutely the best to watch when it comes to anything PC. Been a fan of his for years and I will continue to be for many years ahead. Awesome video and super awesome of AMD to let you all up in their hardware during CES. I am going to build a full AMD cpu/gpu system this year and I am so ecstatic in anticipation! One day I will go to CES and get all up in the hardware and hopefully meet all these PC rockstars 😜
comedyman112 wut? im pcmr, im just saying that games will get more demanding on the cpu side when new consoles will come out, im not switching to console
Nisco Racing depends. If you do 4k gaming then you're still at 60hz and thats easy for 2500k. However of you are one those 144hz guys, well then a cpu starts to count.
Nisco Racing. The IPC difference between a stock 2500k and stock 6600k is roughly 40%. Kaby lake is exactly the same as skylake in performance. a 4.5Ghz 2500k (which is an incredibly easy OC for 2500k) comes damn close to the performance of a stock 6600. The benchmarks and comparisons are everywhere already. Maybe next time actually look it up instead of mashing your keyboard. Since the SandyBridge architecture, performance has only increased by roughly 5-10% with each generation. It absolutely is time to upgrade the 2500k should you be buying a high end graphics card, but the only real upgrade to it would be an i7 at this point and at the same time the bottle neck is not enough to bring any game below 60 fps on ultra should you have a 1070 or 1080. It doesn't really even bottleneck the cards below that at all with a good OC. Furthermore, so few games are actually cpu intensive that the bottleneck will rarely be seen. All that said, how much life it has left really depends on the user. I don't think it will keep up being capable of ultra settings for another 3 years but it's whatever.
actually i was waiting this since the start of CES and since i have to build a new machine I am really hyped for ryzen and Vega, imo zen was a better name
Curently, in the testing videos and showroom demos the Vega does not have all of its actual features being put to use and still comes ahead of the competitors. When its an actual final release it will be way ahead. I'm also excited about the feature of it OC itself based on its temperature, lower temps it will self OC to faster frequency. That way you don't have to constantly switch between OC profile, normal profile, and underclock profile to save energy.
Finally! AMD is back boys, I was scared Intel would have the monopoly for evah but after nearly a decade they are back in the game. Now mobile is to follow :)
You are missing the point, they did a good job with that, where you looking away when linus explained? It was for CPU comparison. How the heck do you compare CPUs when you use a GPU paired to them that's not even on the market? They used that nvidia gpu because everyone knows that gpu won't bottleneck the cpus. That's the point.
If AMD actually manages to compete with Nvidia on the GPU market and Intel on the CPU market it would just be an outrageous blessing for all of us private customers, since competition has always been one of the key driver for price drops...
my FX 8350 has already Ryzen and passed to a better life to the afterlife, in its place a I7-4790k was born...i loved amd, it will take a miracle to go back.
Vertigo 101 I was going to go with AMD too, I bought a red and black case, red and black motherboard, 16GBs of red and black RAM, an 8GB MSI Gaming X RX480, black keyboard and mouse with RGB LEDs turned red, but then Newegg started selling the i7-6700K for $250 in November and I was like fuck AMD...
the big deal breaker is if AMD can pull off the price, never bought AMD because they could beat Intel always bought them because there the best bang for buck. AMD are normally 1/4 the price and about 3/4 the performance. if they match the performance but it costs almost the same as a Intel then they loose there market
I'm glad to see it looks like they reworked their Wraith Cooler design. No longer does it appear to hang over the RAM. Which previously caused issues with sticks that had tall heat spreaders.
Oh sorry, I didn't realise that a 6900k was thermal throttling while reaching blistering temps of what... 45-50c max at stock... ~Wwwwwwwooooooo~~~ ghost noises. Seriously though, a basic fan at a stock cpu setting isn't going to do anything to the performance in a situation like this.
The real question is why are they using GPU dependent tests, rather than something like Cinnabench? Aida 64? With a card from the opposite team no less, white flag much? :/ I won't lie, I'm an Intel fan, but that doesn't mean I don't want amd to succeed, nor does that explain why they used a gpu dependent test to demonstrate a CPU?
I think there's info for a lot of tests available now, these ones are much better for going viral. I dont think I've ever seen any Cinnabench or Aida results going viral in my lifetime.
AMD doesn't have the final clockspeeds and boosts ready according to various sources, they are still dealing with the finishing details, so they wanted something that shows the technology and features rather than pure CPU horsepower. They went with a well optimized game that can use all their threads, and a game+streaming to show their new feature that has less delay and higher end quality on the stream.
As a hardcore Intel-Nvidia fan even since the Geforce 6 series from April 2004, I'm really stoked for everyone that AMD is stepping up their game.. They need to compete with Nvidia and Intel to push innovation generally.. I'm tired of the usual 10-15% performance increase with every generation. Sure there may be some physical limitations to how much performance you can squeeze out of a silicon chip, but then they'll have to start thinking in other ways of innovating like AMD has done with Ryzen. Improving the communication and structure of a chip is actually a huge step forward and I'd only imagine how fast processors we'll get if Intel also started improving in other ways than just clock speed.
This happens every single time an amd release is coming... Fans claim oh it will destroy nvidia / intel in power. It never does when the benchmarks come in..
About time AMD became competitive again. Maybe now Intel will be forced to actually innovate with large improvements instead of sit on their asses and demand people cut off their limbs for marginal increases in performance each year. So sick of how it's been.
What is so impressiv on comparing 2 highend cpus in a gaming benchmark, even on 4k (only 60fps)? Im sure that you will get nearly the same fps on BF4 4k with an I5 6600 for just 230€?
I am so interested in this new stuff from AMD. Assuming the retail stuff is as good as they are claiming I can't wait to build a new AMD rig at the end of this year probably.
No one wants or cares $800-$1000 cpus. The vast majority of gaming happens at $250-$300. AMD will have to launch better and cheaper cpus than Intel i5/i7 3rd and 4th generations. eBay is FULL of $150-$300 Intel i5/i7 cpus from 3rd/4th generations, which kind of annihilate everything AMD are offering in the past 5 years. This is performance/$ of course. So unless AMD is coming up with some REALLY cheap better cpus, I will go with Intel this year. Even is AMD brings cpus same price as Intel, they can still f**k off! This over hype trend that AMD is pulling each time they release something is ridiculous and not founded.
That is absolutely not true. I was an AMD customer from 2003 to 2016. I owned only AMD cpus. I started to be AMD fan with the AthlonXP series and even more with Athlon64. I know what they can do. They are shit. And expensive. Only slightly cheaper than Intel. Almost all my friends have switched to Intel in the last 2 years. I was an idiot and not believed them ,still thinking AMD rock. I never ever imagined how powerfull a cpu can be, until I bought a used I7 4790k. All for the same price as the shity 8320. Instead of buying a new 8320/8350 I bought a used i7 cpu. Even the old 2600k, 3770k are more appealing than AMD. I am sorry but AMD failed me, they suck, lets admit it. You know that saying: 'I am too poor to buy cheap things'. You end up being unhappy and they don't last. That is how I feel about AMD products.
Ryzen passed our expectations. Intel stayed really comfortable, having small improvements while bumping out the prices. Amd stayed quiet for a long time and ryzen is so much better than the fx series, while keeping it at a reasonable price.
If it competes with the 6900K, a $1,000 chip, then wouldn't it make sense from a marketing standpoint for AMD to price the Ryzen CPU's at around $500-$800? Would it be wise to wait for Ryzen if your budget for a CPU is $250 (6700K price), or would it be best to grab an i5 6700K now?
EvokeDuck Tbh I already bought the 6700k, just wanted reassurance that it wasn't a mistake lol. Honestly, coming from an 8350 I don't think I would ever trust another AMD CPU in my computer.
the only problem with considering changing CPU to Ryzen from an i7, is that not only woul you have to buy a new cpu, but also a new motherboard. Which is why I havent upgraded my shitty fx 8320.
Doesn't make sense to judge AMD's new CPU's based on an extremely old 8350. Personally I would've waited for Ryzen to launch before making a purchase. I can't wait to get rid of my i5 6500 if ryzen is as good as benchmarks show.
Like the others have said, it is CPU intensive. Wish i would have known that. I have a cheap AMD CPU but a GTX 1060 and I can barely run medium settings.
Not hating, but skeptical. I want Ryzen to be good, I want Vega to be good, but in the last years, if NVidia and Intel did one thing, it was delivering. I just got an overclocked Skylake 6700k (had 2700k before) + Z170 pro gaming and DDR4 2400 ram 2 months ago, and boy oh boy, the difference in performance with my (soon to be replaced by an asus 1080ti) asus 970, was like getting a new graphics card. I even bought a 34" G-Sync monitor from asus, and it's like i made a technology jump of 10 years. All my buddies got from buying AMD in the last years were crashes, underwhelming performance and false promises. So I really hope AMD can Ryze again, so NVidia and Intel will have to think twice now before they put their Apple Prices on their products.
Performance? You can talk about all the stuff behind the technology and all, what I want in the end, is that my games, and my PC as a whole, runs smooth. That's what intel has given me.
It will come out soon. If you follow the advancement and the news, there has to and will be a 1080ti soon. But why brag about 2 1080s? They must have insane performance.
How did the RX 480 not deliver? Or for example my current card, the R9 290X, being the original Titankiller? AMD's GPU department deliverd very well over the past years, especially with theit amazing driver support. As for CPU's, well, if you're on a budget...
Games = 90% GPU / 10% CPU. THIS TEST VIDEO MEANS NOTHING !!!! Just let run CPU Benchmarks Intel vs AMD, but AMD DONT DO THIS ! Because they know they suck !
they did do the cpu benchmarks... clock for clock the ryzen chip either matched or outperformed the intel one. As far as I remember they did handbrake and cinebench
SwissCow85 And thats were you are wrong m8.... Games are not just only GPU loaded today... may have been the case years back. But you now have a complete different setup regarding both physics and Ai in games nowadays.... so put you rant back where the sun doesnt shine... ;)
The Pope , not to mentioned they did a STREAM test, and we all know that you need a very good CPU in order to have good stream quality while playing with games. They were able to show and prove how well this CPU handle streaming. AMD all they are doing right now is show all gamers out there that it can run games, stream and more, since the biggest market in PC right now is gaming. I'm sure as we get close to the release time of it, we will see the potential of this CPU base of software related computing power and how fast it can operate in the NON gaming world.
I don't get why Intel fanboys are hating on this, If Amd were to get competitive in the CPU market, it would make Intel CPUs cheaper.
Yes, they would. Capitalism in a nutshell.
Darkness Essence ikr
Darkness Essence and lower prices
People think brands work more like sports teams and that their favorite has to be the best (and they may even claim that it is even if it happens to not be). That's not really how competitive markets/companies work but this fanboy-ism shit happens everywhere regardless.
I cant believe it.... Someone with common sense and logic!!! lol.
goddamn right, lower prices, higher speed, and faster improvement
Good to see them back on track!
Now all they need is a graphics card to compete with the 1080.
Zupe rx 480?
FaZe Rain's Dad that doesn't compete with 1080 it competes with the 1060
competes against titan x pascal
What? RX480 is not a shot at the 1080... it's no where near the same performance tier. RX480 is value, 1080 is power for a premium.
Casual Alien You really are stupid. They have a test machine with Intel/Nvidia then a full AMD test machine.
No both machines had a Nvidia card, 1 system a Intel CPU the other an AMD cpu
Generic Username no he's not. you are.
Its mainly because VEGA isn't ready for market yet. - and have not yet been tested so persons wouldn't have a basis of comparison.
Please Jesus can AMD release some epic CPUs and GPUs soon. I'm fucking tired of Intel and Nvidia fleecing the market with their
Are we so readily forgetting AMD was more than happy to jack up their prices during the bitcoin craze
Again, basic Business 101.
what about the 70 percent boost from the 980 to the 1080
You're about to get your wish :D
Yeah nvidia is doing a pretty good job but intel? meh
1:14 "They let me take the panels off"
Let's be honest.... They really shouldn't have let you 😂
#LinusDropTips
they trust the guy don't worry
Apparently he dropped a vega chip.
They shouldn't trust him, he is notorious for dropping and breaking hardware. That is why some vendors won't let him do anything to their unreleased products.
Well, Raja dropped an RX480 right in front of Linus, so... Now that I think of it, is it possible he was making fun of Linus' tendency to drop things?
AMD here to shake up the industry once more
True, sadly. Without AMD though, Intel would become hobo status and remain hobo status... Comparatively.
and it only took them 11 years to do it
DanielRichards644 Progress is progress
I gadda be honest..I just look forward to the AMD fanboys shitposting on forums for the next few years like Intel fanboys have done. can't search the web for decent toilet paper without an Intel fanboy undermining the whole subject to gloat and suggest a team blue CPU.
we need the industry to keep competing each other otherwise, there will be now development and price drops in the market. Go AMD!
This is gonna be one hell of a moist year in terms of pc hardware.
Le Croissant Especially if water cooled
Im doing my first custom watercooling loop so I hope it wont be too moist.
.
My grandma's muffins are moist.
my crotch is moist
amd, nvidia, intel
R G B
I can see in later 2017 a Ryzen + Vega to be a popular config
if the prices are good then yeah probably
we dont know what it will cost. If its 800 bucks, its not really a good deal. I might as well buy an intel, because at the end of the day, that will be the better one. Else tehy would let it run at their highest equivalent clock in the demos.
***** Exactly, but seeing AMD's current strategy I think they'll price it competitively
Because It worked for them with the RX Series
Rare Person I mean if a much cheaper cpu can perform with an i7-6900k on equal. We could all have a gaming machine, which costs 2000 today for much cheaper when Ryzen and Vega get launched
I think even though ryzen + Vega will be a good combo you won't see it become popular till near late 2018 because a mass of the market who will be looking to upgrade has probably already upgraded late last year and the newcommers who don't research as much will just go NVidia and intel
That moment when you just bought an i5 6600k...
i bought a 6500, only because I desperately needed an upgrade from an i3 3120m laptop with hd graphics
I just got a i5 660k too, got it for like $120
That moment when someone buys a cpu at this time of year near a new tech release.
Damn i feel for you mane, lol
Deniedstingray its ok, when AMD releases something you don't need to worry
I admire amd for using a competitors gpu
what would have been a non competitor gpu?
AMDs own gpus, or any ATI card
AMD isn't Radeon Graphics Group
Who else here is also still on Haswell and doesnt plan on upgrading anytime soon? im still chugging along nicely with no bottlenecks at all.
I'm fine with my i5-4430 ,although I'm going to replace my 4gb 960 to a 6gb 1060.
Cøunt Grishnáckh that's why I did and there's a killer difference with my 1060 ssc 6gb. Although I paid $320 :p
Agreed.
MASTAX1234 2500k here
MASTAX1234 I'm on a g3258.. 1050ti is only at like 25% usage while cpu is at 100 :(
I like how AMD doesn't even use their own video cards on their new cpus
Squilliam_Fancyson _ or their own CPUs on their GPU...
Squilliam_Fancyson _ Is it too hard to tell that they need the most powerful GPU, which is from NVIDIA at the moment, to limit the variables for a decent comparison of their CPU?..
Squilliam_Fancyson _ because they have not launched a New high end card already to show all the potential of the cpu
It was so that the only variable was the CPU.
Because there's no way that an rx480 will cause a bottleneck, and they can't use a Vega card because no one owns them to have any sort of frame of reference.
I'm interested in the price. Especially as AMD are known for being much more competitive when it comes to their pricing.
Intrisity when amd released the first fx chip it annihilated everything Intel and via had, and it was gouged like hell, the amd64 and dual core releases were both landmarks and they gouged both of those
Intrisity think about it, if AMD made a cpu that performs as well as Intels $1000 cpu, then the price is going to be close to $1000. .
I guess I just buy at the wrong time. I'll be looking in the next six months for a 6/8core CPU as building a sperate PC to record and help with editing isn't really my idea of fun. (plus the electric bill).
2:49 A WILD RAJA APPEARS!
you have found the super rare AMD engineer raja, who appears once every year on the CES conference.
share this with 5 people and your next PC build will be blessed with high overclockability, low power draw and the lowest prices on ebay bids!
I think Raja was a woman... man, I should stop right here I guess :))
haha OMG! Amazing shot xD
Looks like AMD has "ryzen".
CitricJack Get out
CitricJack heheheheh.... had a good laugh at 3 am lol
read the title dumbass
CitricJack from the dead lol
didnt they already make that joke in the title?
P R I C E
Tintel we dont know yet but rumors are $500 for the ryzen processor
That's a really important aspect that they keep forgetting to mention.
10 pork tacos delivered to AMD's HQ.
Kevin Pranoto whoops
Adog Supreme it isn't announced yet but you can bet it will be cheaper because if it wasn't no one would by ryzen
2012
for me the kaby lake processors are only £20 more than the skylake equivelant
Most legendary run of CPU's that I've personally seen so far.
ChrisKadaver interesting
ChrisKadaver Linus said the chip wasn't even overclocked or using their "boost"
ChrisKadaver right cause gamers drop 5k$ to run games at 720p and low settings. I get your point, to test cpu is to remove as much GPU usage as possible. But they wanted to prove that their chip could hang at 4k ultra, just like Intel.
Let me ask you a question, do you benchmark on low? You push it to the limit and get the results, not to where it's playable.
AMD SAVE US FROM INTEL
crazyjd64 the prices are too high! Get the pitchforks!
Too expensive for you, huh? Sucks to suck.
Samuel Moede You shouldn't overpay for something and if you can get something just as good or better for cheaper than you are a smart consumer
Samuel Moede wtf lol
i dont really care about this dumbass war between AMD and intel but from just scrolling through the comments I only see the AMD fans trying to start an argument...
Amd might be replacing the 4930k in my editing/streaming rig, seems to be good shit perhaps too a good price as well.
ME WANT NOEEEEE! My poor FX 8350 is telling me to support its creator!
Erosion139 Let it ascend to heaven and give birth to a new chip in your system, Ryzen!
YEEESSSS!! If only I could sell back to AMD and they can melt it down and give it new life!
do not complain, still rocking Phenom II X4 here, buddy ;) and OCed like a pork he's still doing the fuckin job
It helps alot.
Whats it clocked at? I have still to buy a cooler better than my stock. :(
Arma 3 the real End boss
Arma 3 ran awful with bulldozer. hope it wont be same case for ryzen/zen
FiftyHP shit Dog I'm to cheap to buy 3 I hope it runs well on 2
should run very well on the new chips. The chips now have their own form of hyper threading and its been said that they perform MUCH better on single core performance. They will also authomatically overclock themselves... so basically, it should be able to run arma 3
god I love that terribly optimized game
Ikr and has really been trying harder recently and its a shame people didn't realise till the end of the generation is 390>970
+Sebastian Mendoza That's bullshit.
That's trueshit
guess it depends on your frame of reference. there was a time when AMD had 64 bit CPUs and Intel didn't. at that time their product lineup kinda smashed Intel, the only bad part was that there wasn't a lot of support for it =\ as weird as it sounds, AMD has usually pushed pretty beefy hardware for the price and in many cases it's been more powerful as far as their graphics cards go, their drivers just haven't ever been as efficient. hopefully the stuff AMD has in the pipeline pushes things forward again cuz Intel and Nvidia are getting lazy. hopefully more devs start using Vulkan so there's an actual alternative to giving Microsoft, Intel and Nvidia all my money
theaudiocrat hell yeah I built an amd system in 06. Shit was awesome
"circular" logo behind R Y Z E N = o ryzen, spelled " H O R I Z O N "
that a code?
Tenderloin Salmon Ryzen is the (new) Horizon.
Holly shit illuminati confirmed
Tenderloin Salmon Horizon... could this mean Ryzen is only the start?
Holy shit, Intel is gonna get robbed xdddd
MiguelXx3D illuminati confirmed
That's Half life3 confirmed bro
Horyzental...like a flatline... flatline means death... Skylake Ryzen = Skynet Born? + Kaby Lake stand for KB-Lake = Killer Bots - Lakes of blood... we´re doomed... MOM, WHERE`S MY MEDS!?
I died when he took off the panel and saw the GeForce logo XD
Nisco Racing I'm assuming to ensure there is no gpu bottleneck to properly show CPU performance. I thought an r9295x2 might do the trick but it still probably wouldn't be enough??
For 4K BF1? Nah R9 would not be enough considering the obvious GPU Bottlenecks.
there's bottlenecks either way
Because VEGA can not be put there and because the Titan is quite powerful.
TheGuy they did that becouse if they would use their cards people would not trust that benchmarks
I just hope it costs around an intel core i7 or less.
Deodedros There 4c8t (6700k/7700k equivalent) will cost around 150 to 200 dollars (rumor)
Deodedros I think it'll be a fraction of the price.
earth418 It will definitely be under $100 not
i7 starts from 300 to around 1800 so...
my expectations of the pricing: 4c8t: $200 6c12t: $400 8c16t:$700.
AMD, all I want for St. Patrick's Day is a cheap CPU with 4 cores, maybe hyperthreading, and easy overclocking. Please.
lol
Emperor Scumbag VII 4 cores? AMD will never do anything that sensible. It's why they're getting fucked in the CPU market.
Death"Three Reich's You're Out"2508 AMD has sold quad core CPUs before you know... 8000 FX series CPUs had 4 cores.
Nahh I don't think this Ryzen thing will stick. Who would ever need more than 4 cores?
fr. i think this is just another flop. surely the moar cores thing is just a bunch of marketing. right?
Yeah, and UserBenchMark will continue to be reliable.
userbenchmark told me clock speed is the only thing that matters ergo amd is bad
it did stick. infact modern i5s have more cores than modern ryzen 5s. competition. we love to see it.
@@gureguru4694*ecores
AMD and Intel war is dumb
AMD is good, not the best, but works and is cheap
Intel is good, hyper-threading but extremely expensive, its more about bragging rights imo
Theres nothing wrong with being on a budget and building an AMD system.
AMD is for pure plebs lololol XDDD
Sistubuz no, the war gives them a reason to be better each move.
If either side wins hands down, where is the reason for the to make better cpu?
FUCK YEAH BOYS PC CASE GEAR MADE IT.
Australia, we made it.
for once we did.
did a double take
AUSSIE BOIZ HELL YEAH
+Jordon Pollock lmao i used to go to the same school as you in the year below
Really? Small world then I guess
Effin hell, probably have to sell 6700k and get one of those ryzen chips soon.
Was using a fx 8350,went for 6700k but watching ryzen vids... i want amd again :D
no need lmao, keep the 6700k.
6700k is around 370€ here ( estonia ).If that ryzen works aswell as 6900k and costs less than 330€.. then why the hell not :D
Depends how much you could sell it for :D
It goes around 300€ in forums.
I really hope that ryzen is damn awsome
naaaah
2020: AMD laughs in Threadripper 3990X 64 cores
Dear everyone confused about them using a GTX GPU in the system: when measuring differences between CPUs it's best to use the fastest GPU on the market, so that the effect of the CPU on performance can be easily seen without worrying whether or not the GPU is holding back performance. Nvidia currently has the most powerful card on the market, so that's the GPU they need to use to show off their CPU.
History was written
I'm on a new build. with an i5 6600k and a gtx 1070--so very much green and blue--and I'm still excited as fuck for vega and ryzen. We need some serious competition again, no matter which team you're on. I hope ryzen becomes the next best 8-core cpu, for a better value--force Intel to work harder, and us consumers reap the benefits.
Intel got too lazy with Kabylake. I'm hoping their next batch will give us what we actually want. All I want is an 8 core 16 threads at an affordable price
Cody Windsor they did this with Hazwell as well
*Chris Thesav* Haswell ~Aswell! lol..... wait, HALF LIFE 3 CONFIRMED!!!!!!!!!!
Kabylake is just a "filler" for them. They needed time because of the problems with the new manufacturing process.
Cannonlake will be badass and actually it will be the real competitor against AMD ZEN.
temp50 They need something better than Zen to win people back
fuck Intel
AMD Ryzen 8 core $350 ??!
Zraupp10 no way. at least 500$
if 350 intel will have it bad.. lol high end intel cpu are SO overpriced
They sell THAT cpu with THAT kinda power at $350...
That's gonna destroy Intel.
the top model 8C/16 Thread is $550 retail.
Not An Argument. even at that price it would be hella competitive
15,000 views in 15 minutes. AMD fans been waiting diligently.
Nisco Racing Oh I am as well. I have a soft spot in my heart for AMD. I like their business model and pro consumer practices. Running an AMD 280 as of now : ).
2:48 Raja casually strolling in the background
Victor P. Casually checking if linus dropped anything on the booth
The gaming community needs to embrace AMD, love them, make babies with them,
they are lowering the prices for everyone on every level for Nvidia and Intel.
By buying AMD, you are helping every gamer everywhere on earth.
jumpship88 am proud to say I splurged to a 1800x
amd prob handpicked their cpu
+Portgas D Ace it really doesn't work like that...
good one linus!
Pretty sure they used their feet

LinusTechTips Shots fired. CES was great fun this year. Flir got the DUO working on Day 2, looks like it could be a cool thing to have for some content creators.
Finally, something from AMD that is not going to burn down my house
Henry Jiang that isn't guaranteed, the guarantee is that you actually get performance out of it
Henry Jiang Well I think it's actually brilliant of them to also turn your PC into a space heater. It's so brilliant in fact that a while back EVGA tried to emulate that functionality, but the public didn't like it.
(I'm kidding ofc, lol)
This is awesome! Still running an 8350...2017 new rig whoohoo!!
Nobody commenting rn if ur here props yo you man
This is so funny to look at now that intel is stomped in everything except price and avalibility
Maybe vega isn't ready yet, or else they should've put vega into the system
It's not just that it may not be ready nobody at home or even in the general tech media community actually has something to compare vega to vega seeing the cup difference
I feel like building a computer is all about wishing you'd waited a few months. I wish I'd waited a few months.
Tiparium you can't wait forever. If you were to wait for the better component, you would always be waiting
Not really. At this point it's very incremental. If anything you are shaving a second or two and adding a couple of FPS...
One day I will go to CES and get all up in the hardware and hopefully meet all these PC rockstars 😜
still keeping my 2500k oc, it'll probably last at least for 3 more years until new consoles will come out
Karol Jampolski console pleb
comedyman112 wut? im pcmr, im just saying that games will get more demanding on the cpu side when new consoles will come out, im not switching to console
Nisco Racing depends. If you do 4k gaming then you're still at 60hz and thats easy for 2500k. However of you are one those 144hz guys, well then a cpu starts to count.
yes, testing cpu's at 4k is pointless, they should test ryzen at 144hz instead
I don't think it will keep up being capable of ultra settings for another 3 years but it's whatever.
highlight from CES
>3:28 am
>AMD's new stuff
>NoSleep.png
actually i was waiting this since the start of CES and since i have to build a new machine I am really hyped for ryzen and Vega, imo zen was a better name
What's the CPU cooler being used in the Ryzen machine for the BF1 Demo?
Jabberwockxeno the stock wraith cooler from the previous generation
Jabberwockxeno Pretty sure it's the wraith one that comes with their other high wattage chips now.
Probably a stock AMD cooler.
The wraith cooler I believe.
Looks like a Wraith cooler.
That way you don't have to constantly switch between OC profile, normal profile, and underclock profile to save energy.
me when 2024 When ryzen 9000 is a thing now. me when 8 cores is the minimum now
Finally! AMD is back boys, I was scared Intel would have the monopoly for evah but after nearly a decade they are back in the game. Now mobile is to follow :)
When amd is using a gtx
They are because they don't want to show vega yet
All seem plausible. Rx460-80 are Low-Mid End.
Yea but it's kinda ironic and thy could have just as easily used one of their GPU instead of "advertising" Nvidia
point is everyone knows the titan x is the best gpu available gives amd a chance to show just how powerful their cpu is.
If AMD actually manages to compete with Nvidia on the GPU market and Intel on the CPU market it would just be an outrageous blessing for all of us private customers, since competition has always been one of the key driver for price drops...
like wtf kaby lakes are just overclocked skylakes I have a feeling Intel just buried themselfs against amd :/
PC CASE GEAR AU LOVE
Haha, whoever did their product placement needs a raise.
Ikr Aussie Aussie Aussie ou ou oi
Lol I know someone would post something about that in the comments, bet everyone outside of AUS has never heard of PC Case Gear
Thelegenderyhero
Everybody is probably like "What the fuck is a PC case gear?"
Gotta love PCCG. Aussies FTW.
I can't stop laughing.
A Nvidia GPU in an AMD machine.
Talk about waving a white flag.
***** its understandable but still funny
***** AMD is basically admitting their GPUs aren't as good as their competition. Its funny.
***** exactly...this are saying that Nvidia (their competition) makes a better gpu then them...
***** because they didn't use their own card....jesus....
***** neither is this CPU ;P
2:50 hey, the guy who dropped the rx 480 some months ago!
Temps Are RyZen
Here is where the new arc began...
FUUUUUUUCK YEEEEEEEEEEEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LETS GO BOIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!
my god that's amazing
my FX 8350 has already Ryzen and passed to a better life to the afterlife, in its place a I7-4790k was born...i loved amd, it will take a miracle to go back.
*Sponsored by AMD.
.... And an NVIDIA GTX Video Card! :D
i am gonna buy my first rig this year, gonna go with amd if its of good price
smart man, AMD gear is awesome..
War_Destroyer gg
BUILD YOUR OWN PC!
TheGamingFireUltra yeah will build, i meant i have to buy my rig as in components :)
the big deal breaker is if AMD can pull off the price, never bought AMD because they could beat Intel always bought them because there the best bang for buck.
It'd be a shocker if it costs the same as the 6900k. I would laugh so hard. But I really hope it isn't so that Intel reduces it's price.
6900K on that small of an air cooler?
thats the intel stock cooler, the same thing goes with amd, both using stock coolers.
Intel hasn't made a stock cooler supporting 2011 since like 2011 tho... That's the thing
But K series chips don't come with a cpu cooler.
both cpus at stock speeds, dout that the 6900k was thermal throttling
Will google Take this name? hype
I think there's info for a lot of tests available now, these ones are much better for going viral. I dont think I've ever seen any Cinnabench or Aida results going viral in my lifetime.
cinabench should not be the mandate any more honestly its been known to run unoptimized code on anything but intel
How about now in 2019?
Hello?
LoL roasted poor guy
BF1 Wasnt even running at 60 FPS... Have Game Devs given up on optimizing PC games well?
brah dat shud be 4k. 4 freakin k.
I feel like the instant that a game has multiplayer all thought of optimization is thrown out the window.
Aphex it was 4k bro
my only complaint about it is they didn't show what the intel was getting just what the AMD was, makes it a pointless test in my eyes.
LTT wasn't doing the test. the test was done weeks ago. they were just showing off the PC that was used in the original test
Lmao 2:50 look who it is just strolling along
"Damn near identically", even though the discrepancy is about 20 fps.
This really is sponsored by AMD.
Have you ever watched FPS numbers while standing still (same landscape) and then moving (changing landscape) in an FPS? Don't be silly.
I don't understand the second demo... What difference are we supposed to see there?
The difference being that cpu encoding gives better image quality than gpu hardware encoding.. which is true btw
Okay! :)
SwedishGamer322
:)))
No.
They were showing how fast their encoding was. As the monitors above are "live feed" streaming from the machines below.
You have to see the delay in the encoding. Its slightly visible but not so much becasue of the camera focus. But yeah...
IF they do. There is a big IF coming from AMD. Same IF as every year in the past 10 years at least.
How old is a Phenom?? Holy shit...AMD is the best. Intel and nVidia band wagons are getting too crowded. It's time for them to crash and spill over.
Ryzen passed our expectations. Intel stayed really comfortable, having small improvements while bumping out the prices. Amd stayed quiet for a long time and ryzen is so much better than the fx series, while keeping it at a reasonable price.
Oh AMD ryzen!
*linus opens the side panel*
what the fuck..
Zed Jayce Damn straight I do ;)
I don't like Intel's naming
(actually I meant the 7600k)
the only problem with considering changing CPU to Ryzen from an i7, is that not only woul you have to buy a new cpu, but also a new motherboard.
Zed Jayce "Guys my '98 Camry is as good as your 2015 Ford Focus because they go the same speed!"
genuinely hope AMD are gonna come back, my previous processor was an AMD Phenom ii x4 965 BE, man did it overclock
Linus is acting extremely jittery like he's on a high. Why??
Linus is always short on time - and he's dealing with very expensive hardware.
You've never watched Linus before have you...
I have, CPU's aren't his job description tho..
this comment makes me think you you stumbled up upon him yesterday.
AMD provided some free cocaine
I guess amd is ryzen back from the dead
Both CPU are running on stock cooler? Didn't know 6900k can run on a stock cooler at all. Anyone know if the game (BF1) is heavy on CPU at all?
nicholasxuu Yes it is very heavy actually, especially multiplayer
nicholasxuu yes its quite CPU intense
nicholasxuu yes, it's CPU heavy, but no, 6900ks don't even have stock coolers, so no.
Very. AMD may have a competitive chip :-)
Like the others have said, it is CPU intensive. Wish i would have known that. I have a cheap AMD CPU but a GTX 1060 and I can barely run medium settings.
I own an Nvidia/Intel rig, and I seriously hope AMD can deliver amazing CPU and GPU processors this year.
Linus voice, give likes.
What did Intel deliver exactly?? 5 ipc gaing for 5 years plus kabylake with 0 IPC gain... give me a break man
Performance? You can talk about all the stuff behind the technology and all, what I want in the end, is that my games, and my PC as a whole, runs smooth. That's what intel has given me.
I got 2 1080s. I really hope the 1080ti doesn't come out soon so I can brag about my 1080 for a long time now.
I CAME UP FROM THE BOTTOM
AND INTO THE TOP
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Socket 939
2005 -----12 years later--- 2017
If you want Amd to comeback leave a like!
If both CPUs are getting same fps, it could be a gpu bottleneck. Show something else AMD.
Arun Sundaran A bottleneck on a Pascal Titan X? What do you want them to do put another Titan X in, that'd be the best they can do.
A bottleneck could also come from the motherboard or GPU.
Linus said in the livestream that the ryzen chip was about 3-5% worse than the 6900k.
you just missed the only god damn fucking point in the demo.
Arun Sundaran lol 1080 bottlenecking bf1
Games = 90% GPU / 10% CPU.
CPU dependency depends largely on the game. But I agree, not a very good illustration of what it can do.
SwissCow85 And thats were you are wrong m8.... Games are not just only GPU loaded today... may have been the case years back. But you now have a complete different setup regarding both physics and Ai in games nowadays.... so put you rant back where the sun doesnt shine... ;)
Certain games are more cpu heavy and others are more gpu heavy, but regardless a more powerful cpu will bring some improvement
Good to see an Aussie company get a mention in LTT's videos :)
