Nice pieces of property. I also have a 400 sq2 piece of rural land in Portugal near my house in the center of an unused farm, overgrown, and a forest of weeds and brambles. I'm searching for ideas and inspiration as to what to do with it. For the last couple of summers it is just a huge hassle brushcutting, and clearing snakelike vines from the 3 mature olive trees.
Corkoak doesn't burn well, so it helps to protect the town from forest fires. Leave them be or even plant like a line of them as a preventive fire barrier around town where you can.
@@LiLBitsDK They are still miles better than the idiot eucalyptus plantations that go up in flames with very little incentive. So know what trees to love and which ones to cut down.
Well, all that land is going to create a lot more work for you. Every year you will need to mow and trim trees. You will now need a nice mower and a bunch of tools for trimming trees and bushes. Oh and a chipping machine. Lots of work.
Well played young man! I am so happy for you. The Ghost Town is in good hands. Maybe a possibility for some of these for now would be campsites for people who want to rough "rough it" and perhaps hike the trails around the area.
... after making some composting toilets, and if you have some showers and a place for people to wash clothes by hand, if they don't want to pay the expensive laundromat (I can teach them how 🙂)... then you can have a campsite.....
My apologies. I should've waited till the end. That's actually brilliant. I just jumped the gun coz I was getting a soon you'd be talking to a basketball kind of vibe. Carry the heck on, more power.
Yes!.... Because the summers are so hot there, that people can surely NOT survive, much less thrive from agriculture (the only economic activity there, traditionally)

Jasper, I really like bushcraft and camping. If you want, I could slowly and steadily help you for one month out of the year to clear the "jungle" property, if you let me use some branches for bushcraft (which would remain on the property, of course). That is, if you have a good (drinking) water source I could use and if I could create a composting toilet (I do have a shower tent, as well as a tent for sleeping and keeping my stuff). I'm presently looking into different "workaways" in Switzerland, where I live, so I would need an answer about this pretty soon, before I actually commit to any other (I already have one for July, setting up fences for newly planted trees).... I will inherit some "jungle" near there pretty soon, but until then, I'm just "chompping at the bit" to get started with bushcraft, which I already started here, in someone else's property. Too many ticks here! I hope there are not so many there..... but if so, there's always reppelent and even a vaccine
Wow you are a true entrepreneur in your village... great news. Also you are looking very handsome with your man sunglasses 😎 love this look! Enjoying watching you achieve your goals. Blessings
Officially, you need to clear the land of tall grass and useless bushes until the end of March, every year.... any vegetation that presents a fire risk, really, except for fruit trees, olive trees, oaks and other useful (shade?) trees....
It would be important to have a deep well or a bordering creek that never runs dry, so you can defend yourself from fire until the firemen arrive, or at least soak your house and surrounding trees before the fire comes near, if it would happen. Jasper is a good man, it won't happen there, as good people have strong and active guardian angels fighting for them
A big lake would be a great idea. I hope your well (if you have one) never dries in the summer time.... and neither will the future lake... as some creeks in that region do (fortunately some wells and creeks have water all summer too)
congrats on all the land you own now... Now you will have to invest into owning a tractor for sure... Do you know the other 5/6 people that you own the land with?
Will you need to clear the new plots as per the fire regulations ? Got your self a massive job if that's a yes ! Your going to need a tractor with a brush hog cutter urgently .LOL
Beware Jasper, from my own experience I know how easy and attractive it is to buy cheap properties in Portugal. You feel like the king of your world. But devastating forest fires in the past make you responsible to maintain your land. You can do that yourself and then every year your energy is wasted on that, or you can have it done and then you pay the cost year after year while those splinters of land are of little use to you. They are also almost impossible to sell. You're better off buying one big passable piece of land next to a road so you can use machines.
I am not sure if he has a plan but from 15:45 onwards he explains that by owning the pieces of land, the neighbours who want to sell are under some sort of first call - last offer obligation. If you look at the maps he shows, the three pieces of land are not too far away from what he already has (the ruin with the newly walled plateau) so after having taken a look at the land registry the plan might be to buy all the missing pieces one after another, and then join the pieces of land together into a large plot which can be managed as a single piece. As the village is practically deserted, and the land in question does not seem to be maintained very well, just woods and olive trees, he might have a good chance, although it may take years. And I totally agree that until then he will have a lot of work with the little pieces of land, and clearing them will take a lot of time and effort and also machines/tools he does not have yet. You cannot reasonably clear about 4000 sqm from brambles and other junk just with a hand strimmer several times a year.
