Interesting video! One slight correction, though: In my country, there are a lot of women with dark hair who have freckles all over their face/body. My relatives look like that, too. It's not a contradiction to have dark hair, pale skin and *freckles.* 😊
Do you have any videos on contrast loss through aging? I am a +1 coloration and I'm starting to go grey at my temples. I'm planning on letting my hair be natural. How does this change the way I look and is it important to know when your contrast has shifted to another category?
so im definitley a -1 contrast, i have blond eyelashes and blond eyebrows (but i dye them softbrown/taupe), ive had platinum whitish blond hair as a kid, over time it turned into medium blond(between level 8 and 9), very ashy, with natural light silvery blond highlights around the face. my hair is also very fine and sleek in texture. my skin used to be super pale, but it gained some color the last years. so my complexion fits in with the other -1 examples. im definitley cool in coloration, very ashy dull hair naturally, and my eyes are dark blue, clear blue with a dark circle around it, which makes them appear dark blue in most lightings. too light hair washes me out, orangey/reddish/yellowish tones as well. ive had basically every hair color, and for the longest time i was fixiated on blond, platinum and ginger haircolors (still a sucker for strawberry blond, but it does not suit me...), but ive dyed it dark for the last 5 years. ive had black hair before, and it does not suit me, and is so much effort, since the blond roots growing back look as if im balding from far away. i dye my hair in level 5 and 6 haircolors, it appears very dark against my skin, but it makes my eyes look so blue...and gives me the contrast i lack naturally. in comparsion, with light ash blond or platinum hair, my eyes looked super dark, you couldnt tell they are blue unless you came really close. suprisingley, with the darkbrown hair (it looks dark brown against my complexion), i dont need much more then some lipliner/liptint, dyed eyebrows, and mascara, maybe a bit eyeliner. but clothe wise, i stick to lighter colors. it makes my skin look much clearer then blond hair does, so to me it is perfect. suprisingley, people liked black hair on me, but without make up i felt like a ghost, and with make up kind of like a 2008 emo girl. so, those are my two cents !
@@MH-ys2gd I can't decide what am I. I watch and watch, trying to train my eye to these features, I feel like I can see it for other people, but not myself. I just mix the things I think of myself and things that I actually am. I need help :(((
@@sve_tiko @sve tiko : do you have professional photos, or pictures you took for school/passport ? view yourself in daylight, without make up, with orange, blue, white against your face ; or gold or silver paper works as well maybe. if you know if your cool or warm, you can then decide if your soft muted, clear, whatever subtype you may be. but, selfies with filters wont show you the truth, and different lighting can bring different colors out in us...whats your eyecolor, haircolor (naturally) and how does your skin look like ? golden tan, pinkish, beige pale, ...
HARD SAME for "dark" hair and "black" hair not being the same. So many times I've read a book or heard a description of someone having "black hair" and instead they have like moderately brown hair haha
I saw comments from black women stating they have black hair. It's like black... as race and of course you can have black hair. The other one is dark hair. It looks black. And there's of course the brown hair, it's more brown/red or even a hint of blond in that hair. I definitely have dark hair, not black. I'm european, not of african descend.
I'm Finnish and blonde. Decided to try dark brown. I knew I looked bad when NO ONE said anything at all when I came into the office. Such a drastic change yet everyone pretended they didn't notice a thing!
I think it might be because of how strong her facial features are, like her large eyes and strong jawline, so that's why she looks much better with her natural blonde hair instead of darker hair. But also...in my opinion, with maybe the right shade of dark hair, like a lighter brown or a caramel brown she could look good in it. Its just that, that very darkish hair that she was sporting just really doesn't her
You can have dark hair and light freckled skin naturally. It's quite common here in Spain. I guess it's what happens when you mix Celt origines with a ton of sun.
Yes I am an Iberian descent girl, my family is Portuguese and I have been told I look like Catherine Zeta Jones who is welsh... my hair is dark muted black and I have olive skinned complexion that sometimes goes fair in the winter to a light brown in the summer... Iberians have a lot of Celtic and Roman DNA
I'm so jealous of people who suit dark hair :( since I was young I have always admired that sultry look of black hair and dark eyes and either have it naturally or suit it. Glossy black hair or black cascade of curls, ugh I die SO pretty. I dyed my hair black in my teens and it just didn't look good on me (for ref I'm blonde, light/pink faced, light eyes). It's very disappointing lol. Maybe in my next life I'll suit dark hair :'(. My boyfriend has dark hair and eyes so maybe I can live vicariously through my future children haha
Life is weird..... I have dark hair not raven hair but dark brown hair with dark brows and pale skin...... I prefer blonde hair , ginger hair blue green eyes.....seems like no one is satisfied. You should love and embrace your blonde hair it's a rare gift billions of people have black hair nothing special
Honestly, I'd rather have lighter hair since my mom has it, but my father (with whom I don't live anymore) has black hair and eyes, so I have dark brown hair and eyes. But I think I would color my hair black
aissani imane hey, dark hair and brown eyes have advantages too; there’s something being developed which can change brown eyes to any other colour using lasers to remove outer layers of brown melanin to get the desired colour. However once done it is permanent and can’t be performed again. Also if you really want blonde hair, bleach your dark hair and maybe dye it... but why would you want to give up your beautiful natural colour? Same goes with the eyes; if they suit you, don’t change them.
I am naturally blonde and dye my hair blue black. My aesthetic is "snow white"- fair skin, blue eyes, with dark hair. I tint my brows and lashes dark, and have to dye my roots frequently, because blonde roots on black hair makes you look like you are balding. This being said, I love this look, I've done it for years, and I get many compliments.
This comment is actually really inspiring ^^ I have a very dark purple hair colour right now which in certain lights looks almost black already and it kinda made me curious to try a black blue kinda colour. I also have fair skin which tans only a little during summer and greyish blue eyes. My natural hair colour is somewhat of a medium blonde. But I’ve never had such a dark hair colour before but in my imagination I feel like it will suit me ! I guess I will simply have to try it out
I dyed my hair black because of this video and im so happy with how it looks! I have dark brown eyes and fair cool toned skin, black hair makes my eyes stand out and gives me an overall clear complexion.❤ I also have dark eyebrows and eyelashes, so even though i have pretty light skin i can still support the contrast of black.
I was watching The Addams Family movie (for the billionth time) and noticed for the first time under a certain light Morticia has super red reflections in her hair and I wasn't expecting that at all lol I guess the actress actually has a warm undertone and no matter how pale they could make her, they had to stick to warmish colours, that's why she also looks so good with bright red lipstick. She on point tho👌
I'm Warm and Soft (Dull, Muted) and my hair is dark brown with reddish reflections. During college I tried a jet black dye and was really surprised that it looked so weird and separate; I assumed being a Latina it would suit me. Now when I dye my hair, I choose softer hues.
Same, I have a very pale skin so it can be deceptive, but I have a neutral-warm undertone (yellow/olive, I'm Mediterranean) and a soft skintone. Bright colours such as venetian blond and stark contrasts like black really don't work for me because of that. I need more muted, ashen tones. If I were to pick a coloured wig now (I don't feel like dying my hair anymore), I'd pick pastel tones for that reason as well, because they have that muted tone that'd match my skintone better than brighter colours. Hell my natural hair has an ashen, reddish-chestnut tone, that's a major give away.
So true. Light hair looks terrible on her in my opinion. Where as some people seem to be able to do both. I remember liking Mandy Moore as a blonde and as a brunette. Hillary Duff also.
My skin is very light naturally and I have dark blue eyes. I‘ve been dying my hair jet black for years now. I love how I look with it it makes me shine. I tried my natural hair color (which is medium brown) for some time but I think it just looks so boring. I look too soft. I love the contrast the black hair gives me. It highlights my cheekbones. And I always like it no matter if my skin is lighter or if I tan (which I like to do a lot). I think the black hair really suits me.
Alice Johnson i let the black color wash out over time and rinsed my hair with camomile tea after each wash. Let the tea soak in for a while and rinsed with water again. The tea made a huge difference in lighting my hair.
Lol I was thinking the same. I am Chinese and I have dark black hair. It used to be more brown in the light when I was a baby but now it is naturally black black. I’ve been lightening my hair for a long time because people always said I look more approachable with brown hair. But It’s too much maintenance. I am a little worried though that it will look harsh on me even though black is my natural hair color. I have naturally very neutral pale complexion but I usually add some bronzer or warmth in it a bit because I used to be teased a lot for looking vampy. All of this is so much work. I guess I’m looking for validation that I’ll still look good with black hair and very pale skin. I don’t want to look cold
Asian here with fairly lightskinned olive complexion and I recently tried the jet black look. It looked horrible on me and I found I needed a lot more colour in my makeup to look less washed out and tired with it XD It was only after watching this video that it now all makes sense. And also realised how many different tones of black hair there are! I look way better with the soft black hair with reddish highlights. That's the darkest I can go without looking unnatural.
I would love to hear your thoughts on the recent trend of adding more unnatural colors to hair in a discreet fashion. I don’t mean dyeing a whole head bright blue, but the seemingly natural ones. For example, rose gold hair, milk tea hair, oil slick hair, blue black hair and so on.
Black hair looks different on everyone in terms of aesthetics but honestly I don't think anyone can look bad with black hair, maybe they'd give of different vibes but it's not like someone dying their hair orange if that makes sense.
I guess very dark brown or black hair can suit anyone. It's just a matter of how much you need to work to pull it off. Maybe do a bit more makeup, maybe change completely the color palette of your makeup and clothes, maybe tan a bit or use bronzer/blush/lipstick, eye shadow / eyeliner etc.
I've been artificially raven haired for two years. I'm fair skinned on the cooler side with hazel eyes and naturally brown hair. My colour of choice is an intense blue black and I love it!
I know a lot of people don't like black hair since it's such a common hair color and thus it's "Boring" but black hair can create such a contrast that blonde hair cant. Honestly such a beautiful hair color.
Beatriz Martínez yes we have many similaritys I am lebanese/Persian and people often mistaken me and my family and friends for being Latino 😃is no wonder ❤️
I have very pale skin with a slightly warm undertone, mid-tone gray blue eyes, and hair naturally a dirty dark blonde/ light brown, but I dyed my hair very very dark brown with reddish golden undertones. I think it looks good on me. I used to dye my hair a soft black color with neutral undertones and that was a bit too harsh for me.
I’m practically the same! My eyes are hazel though. But I find in contrast to my pale skin, dark brown hair looks almost black on me haha. I have neutral skin colouring so I tend change it between a warm brown and a ash brown depending on the season.
Could do one about tattoos and piercings for Kibbe types please Aly? Understand if this might be a bit out there, but it would be great to get some ideas about what body modifications might suit different types. Thanks and keep up the great work!
I appreciate your impact on how I see my beauty. I can’t tell you how much I’ve bloomed since I first discovered your channel... perhaps that wasn’t the direct intention, but it’s certainly a bonus!
When I was younger and in my emo phase I used to dye my hair blue black. I’m a soft natural with warm, olive/dusty light skin. I loved it because it really made me look paler and a little dead haha. My natural hair color is a level 4 dark neutral/warm brown and even that washes me out. It makes me look older and more tired. I now dye my hair a natural copper shade that suits my features and coloring better (I think).
That sounds like my features. One time I did my hair a "coffee" color and on the first day it looked amazing. I got so many compliments! But 2 washes later was enough to make the depth shallow out and that has been my experience everytime. Then once I go back to blonde, Im like oh! There I am! About to take the plunge at 42 and color it black. I thought to myself....what if you lived your whole life never trying black hair? I have tried every other color but not all over black. Yolo I guess. Just gotta find the right shade. Kinda how there is a red lipstick for everyone? I gotta find the right base black but its not something you can play with on first application.
Nooo! I've tried. I was looking like one of those girls after bad plastic surgery. I have naturally Brown hair. Ginger makes my skin alive and suits so well with green eyes
I think black hair suit women who have naturally good eyebrows and eyelashes but when a blonde for example or just women with light eyebrows and eyebrows it doesn’t look good it doesn’t look natural, you are pretty btw
I dyed my hair black (hair is a natural mid-brown) when I was 17/18, it was long then, and it looked really good. I have bright blue eyes and my skin was paler then. That was a long time ago, though, and my skin has become a lot creamier (more yellow) with sun damage over the years, so I probably wouldn't do it now.
I think I'm a +2 and once I coloured my hair black. Everybody just thought it was my natural hair colour. I gives me a lillte bit of that snow white look I just love.
I am so confused with her videos because as much as they make sense, I never seem to *really* fit any category. My skintone is very pale, I almost never get sunburned, I have a lot of yellow undertones with a little ashy-ness. My brows are almost black in color, but they are on the sparse side (I still have very visible brows without makeup, but they look kind of "empty"). I have green eyes with light yellowish-brown patches and dark lashes. My lips are very pigmented and sometimes almost red. I don't have a lot of angles or countours on my face as it is pretty flat. My natural hair color is a medium brown with a lot of copper/red/golden undertones that get even more intense when the sun comes out. I'm so confused about my "type" or what haircolor suits me 😅
I don't really know if I am a +1 or +2 contrast, I am just sure that I am warm and bright and I have naturally black hair. However, I think this video is interesting because I have black, cool and slightly muted (with some grey in it) hair which doesn't suit my skin or eye color (my eyes are dark brown but also warm and bright) so you give me the confirmation that I should try dark brown or chocolate hair color, maybe the same color as my eyes. If I try it, I'll probably let another comment to say how I feel about it.
Do you look good if you wear pure black clothes or pure white? Or does this washes you out? Or do you look good with more earthy tones like brown and green
I thought I was +2 originally cuz I have such pail skin with dark hair and dark eyes. But my skin is very warm and soft and not so much clear or cool, and my hair is more of a dark brown than a jet black, and although my eyes look dark, they're really green in the sun. With all that being said I now think I'm +1 but thought I was +2 cuz the rest of my family is blue/green eyes with blonde hair and cool skin tones so I look VERY contrasted next to them. But I'm not as contrasted and clear next to actual +2 people. I hope this helps
I am Indian and in Indian standard, i'm fair. I have type 1 fine textures glossy hair that is dark brown colored. My hair on arms face eyebrows are not that dark, but kindof dark brownish and I dont look prominent in photos but yes I look bright. I can wear neon colors and any high contrast colors. But i have notices that muted colors or deep colors dont suit me at all.But people compliment me when i color my hair. It never stands out and blends beautifully with my face and skin. My brows i can do light brown still it suits me and brightens up my face. I have tried golden brown on hair and it becomes quite light for Indian skin tone but it blends well and looks like it grows like that from root. So after this video i realized that i can confidently color my hair even lighter. :)
I’m naturally very pale and blonde but my body hair and eyelashes are black. I dyed my hair black on a whim and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. It made me look more interesting. Although having to dye my roots every 2-3 weeks sucks 😅 my hair is so blonde naturally that when my roots come in, I look like i’m balding 😂 😭
I agree with what you said about black hair not working out for people with yellow undertone and very dark brown eyes, as soon as i dyed it very dark brown instead of pure black, my appearance harmonized
Would you do a vid on redheads? I’m (probably) a -1 / 0 (VERY VERY pale, bluish green eyes and dark blonde hair) and went copper and I’m loving it! I can’t tell wether I’m warm or cool though
I'm +1 contrast, bright complexion and I tried the jet black when I was younger... It was a total fail because, as my skin is tan, there is a slight undetectable green undertone that the black brought out. I looked tired and liveless. So, as you said, I can wear the deepest brown, but never a midnight blue black color.
Is it possible to have naturally black hair... but look MUCH BETTER with lighter hair? My natural dark hair brings out my ashy undertones and dark circles too much. I look vibrant with light brown and blondes🤗
I believe it is possible. I have very dark hair and it's not too bad but the type of honey-coloured hair my sister has (and technically I could've had, too) looks just bomb on me. I have mostly round features and lots of softness in my face and I think lighter hair somehow plays into that softness whereas dark hair makes my face look like there is a level or area of colour in my appearance that doesn't belong with the rest.
Hey Tatum, many times, hair a shade or two lighter than your natural can make you look more youthful. It can add a kind of glow to your face. There’s also a part of this that’s how you FEEL in lighter hair. Sometimes people feel better with a certain color (ie. It just aligns more with their personality). So, to answer your question....I’ve personally had clients that I thought looked better with their hair a bit lighter than their natural....I’ve also had clients that I thought looked better a bit darker than their natural. Hope that helps a little. :)
I naturally have blue black hair but I have a warm olive complexion. It clashes and the black washes me out. I’m being dying and bleaching my hair for years and every hairstylist has told me that warm tone hair suits me better.
I am naturally dark blond, but I've been dying my hair blue black since I was 18!(33 now)!I have changed colors but I always go back to black.I adore black hair and I loved this video!Only with black I feel like myself and I have gotten many beautiful compliments through the years.I am cool toned and clear I think!I am learning a lot, thank you for your videos!
I dyed my hair black as a teenager when I was in my goth phase. I'm a zero contrast level with bright blue eyes and medium brown hair with natural highlights. I also have freckles. Black looked really flat on me and made my skin sallow. It did a great job of emphasizing the circles under my eyes. At the time, I didn't care because I was wearing white foundation anyway to achieve my goth aesthetics. I really couldn't go out without makeup until the color faded into a deep reddish brown. After that, it was fine. I would never try to go black again. I've found that when I want to look like I have black hair for a costume I can use a warm dark brown wig and the contrast is enough to give the right look. It doesn't become obvious that it's not black until I put true black right next to it.
I am probably in the +1 or +2 categories and I have been dyeing my hair black for at least ten years now. It makes my skin look clearer and I feel like it gives me an edge that my natural color just doesn't give me. Recently I've been wanting to see my natural color just to see what it looks like now and have even grown out my roots about an inch. My natural color is the same as it was when I was younger, a dark brown with a lot of gold in it and I remember it always made my skin look so ruddy and uneven. Maybe I should just stick to dyeing it.
I learned a lot more than I ever thought I would in this video. I have dark brown hair, warm and soft skin and eyes and dyed my hair black years ago and didn't know why I didn't like it so much. Dark brown hair and clear black hair can look similar but has wildly different effects
I find that their are different types of black: ashy-blacks, rich-blacks, blue-blacks, brown-blacks and reddish-blacks. I have clear, cool, medium brown skin with rich, very solid dark brown eyes. I'm a plus 2 contrast girl with naturally black hair. Reddish-black looks best on me, and blue-blacks or ashy-blacks are too harsh for my skin tone and make me look ill. As best as I can tell, hair colors have to be clear enough to compliment my skin, or rich enough to compliment my eyes, but not heavy enough to drown my romantic features. Also not too light. In this case, because my skin is a medium brown any mid-toned brown would be too light as it would remove my natural contrast.
Really good video, usually hairdressers say oh black looks good on anyone its a neutral, but that is so not true, im a natural dark blonde, silvery blue eyes and lighter skin but i think i am -1 contrast, with yellow/green undertones and black hair looked so fake on me, like a wig, i have frizzy hair and it made it worse because the only dimension you get with black hair is the shine from it and i didnt even have that, so it looked like a big piece of something dark on my head, not like hair. I admire people who can wear it nicely 🖤
Finally accepting my natural black color after years of dying it lighter. I always thought gold highlights suit me because of my hazel green eyes. Now I Iook younger with a very healthy and shiny hair. Natural beauty is the best 👌💕
Makeup artists need to take a class from you, because you are so right about it all. Another great video! Welcome to the USA! Glad you are here safe! Also, I tended to stay away from brown haircolr because they always have a red cast, which looks brassy. I have light blue eyes and now have decided not to cover my grey hair - and it works! My eyes pop, my skin tone looks healthy. Very little makeup looks so much more attractive. I wonder what guys think of a girl who has a slick of foundation and thick red lipstick topped with eyes that have so many different eyeshadow colors that its confusing. All I could think is "will all that makeup wipe off on me?". Lol, natural look is best and most attractive with very little makeup.
I had a light beige hair (8 level) and I hated how mousy I looked sometimes. So when I turned my hair black my entire coloring changed. It was like I put something missing in my look. No one ever thought that I was a fake brunette. And I tried to get back to beige hair and then I could compare my looks. So I looked a lot more ordinary, something was missing again. I decided to try different natural colors and nothing worked that great as black, not even dark brown. So, I think maybe my complexion is clear, my skin is light, but I avoid the sun to make it lighter, my eyes have some green, yellow and blue colors and I could call them bright. And when I put black hairdye I just become high contracted and clear. And yeah, of course I dye my eyebrows and put makeup. I never liked natural looks or no makeup looks... so no problem with that. But if I’m lazy I can just wear foundation and put some brow product on my face and I look great even with this minimal makeup.
I got black brows and lashes, dark brown hair and medium olive skin. The black brows tend to ruin any softer colour i put in my hair. I think i have to keep dark roots and streaks of dark in there to create contrast with any other colour i put in there as my skin is so close to neutral, the balance gets thrown off easily.
I’ve had a lot of people tell me I look good with my hair dyed black despite how ghostly pale I am 😂 My mom told me I was born with super dark jet black hair and I believe this may be why. It lightened in color as I grew older but I think that was evidence enough that I may be able to pull it off 🤷🏻♀️ I’m also goth… so… there’s that 💀
I look so soft when I have blonde hair as an olive skin tone . I look súper mean with dark brown or black hair . I see the difference in my strong features
I have dark hair, porcelain white skin, hazel/amber eyes, full eyebrows. Sometimes I want to be tan but I love the dark hair, fair skin combination. There is something vampy about it
First off, awesome channel... Secondly, what I've also noticed that has an impact on whether you look good with black hair or not is hair texture. I dunno, somehow, I don't think that black hair looks too great on fine/thin hair.
I've tried a bunch of hair colors but I've always felt more comfortable with dark colors. I've dyed it a very dark purple but it looks more black with a purple/brown tint and I feel really good with it!
My mom has super small and dainty facial feautures. For a long time she had either bobs or pixie cuts rocking her natural hair color, which is black. But this year she decided to embrace her silver grays and she looks AMAZING. Funny thing is that her subtle wrinkles are less noticeable now, she looks even younger! Light hair soften her already soft features, she almosts looks ingenue now.
I have olive skin and when I used black hair due to darken my dark brown hair It Made my complexion so ashy and darker ( my skin looked brighter before dying) it didnt suit me at all 😅
What you mentioned about ashy skin (like many of us olive skinned) is so true. Black is the absolutely worst color for us. I have dark brown hair but I do ashy blonde highlights and gives so much needed light to the face!
@@kristines9855 It depends on your contrast levels and that comes from bone structure more than undertone. I have naturally high contrast, but since I am TR lower contrast suits me better.
@@ilinel1321 From actually looking at myself in the mirror, as well as other TRs lol. I had natural darker hair, toned it down and it complements me so much better. I expetimented with wigs before doing it, took photos and paid attention to my features in black and white, I look so much better with low contrast. Also, regarding to clothes and make up, I look better it less hash accents. TR are closer to R than to D, who actually look better with high contrast.
I know a girl though that has naturally black black hair and naturally has freckles and blue eyes... so I guess she is an exception to the rule... cause you said that dark hair and freckles don’t match she is gorgeous.
03:37 Dark hair doesnt reflect much light, so ur cheeks appear darker, its kind of like contouring. 05:15 Dark hair can put some attention on the shadows of ur face, especially if ur face is with more proeminent bones/features. This might look good or bad., it depends for everyone.
So i am probably in the zero category, my skin is very ashy and warm. My skin is usually quite pale unless i tan, and my hair is naturally a medium-dark brown. I had black hair for a long time and it made my eyes look like they'd disappear into my face without eyeliner, my brows were fine, and i felt like i always needed to wear a heap of blush so my skin didnt look dead. In winter it was fine because i had no tan and it made me look less warm and more clear, but the second i got the skightest tan (most would say i still have no tan) my skin is too warm. However, it seems all makeup for pale skin is bright pink so foundation helped a lot too.
My hair has always been dark brown and as I’ve aged I’ve had to dye it. I loved the fresh dark dye but after 2 weeks it would fade. I finally made the jump to black and I absolutely love it. 🖤
I’m +1, cold and my skin is slightly muted, soft. I have naturally dark brown hair and eyes, but then I colored my hair black it looks awful. My facial features are like blurred and I have to do a brighter make up. I will never do it again, maybe dark brown, but not black. Thank you, Aly for your advices, it really helps! 💜
I'm very muted and soft in my coloring but if I ever want a drastic change I'll probably dye my hair black to see if it suits my grey eyes or if they're too muted to suit that kind of darkness.
I have a natural really black hair, and the only thing I know is that if you have very gorgeous face like Kim Kardashian then it will look good on you, otherwise you have to add some colour on your hair, like I did, Black hair is only for beautiful people, in every other case light hair is better.
Yes me too! Lmao I recently dyed my hair it’s natural black color and figured Mother Nature knew best but....I look so lifeless and flat. I need to add at least some chocolate brown highlights for dimension
I dyed my hair black when I was 16 or 17 because I adore the looks of Eva Green, Liv Tyler or Amy Lee. I am unfortunately somewhere between -1 and 0 (light brown hair and VERY pale, light hazel almost amber eyes) so it didn't work out. I think I look better in copper but the fact that I can't be this contrasted goth queen really makes me mad :D
Super interresting! About the freckles though, I think it can look natural if you have pale skin with freckles and blue eyes as long as it's a more natural shade of black. It`s quite common in Ireland (they call the phenotype "black Irish") and looks absolutely stunning
My cousin is a romantic with very bright cool toned skin I saw her with very dark bright hair and with more dull brown and she looked muuuuch better with the dark black hair coz it went along with the brightness of her skin So yess Aly I agree with your views😁😘😘😘
As someone who has been dying her hair darkest brown for years just know once you go black.... you can’t ever go back. Literally. Unless you shave your head or grow your hair out entirely your hair is dark forever lol
I am in the mousy category, except I have a lot of pink in my skin. Black made me look old and tired all the time. I had a cool toned red for years that looked great, then I went copper, which looked AWFUL on me. Now I am back to my natural hair color with some balayage & I FINALLY feel confident to leave the house without makeup.
I'm naturally blonde and have been dying my hair dark for a while. Interestingly enough whenever I lighten it to a lighter brown it flushes my skin out bad. So it's either dark brown or blonde on me no in between it's annoying!! And if it's it's brown it HAS to be ash or else it makes my skin tone look nasty
wow this was very in depth. I wanted black hair but I think I'm going to go for a very dark brown after watching this. I naturally have medium brown hair and neutral skin.
Im italian and my hair is a natural black color. When I’m pale it looks good, and when I’m tan it looks good. I’m pretty extreme on both ends of the skin color spectrum. I can become quite pale but very dark in the sun. Skin type 4-5 to be exact. It defends on the facial features of the individual. I also have very thick brows which compliments it well. I like to use grey eyebrow color to fill in parts of my brows
I’m the same exact way. Just dyed my hair black and loving it, even though I’m pale right now. I’m Arabian with very curly hair so maybe that’s why. Not sure.
I am Albino and coloured my hair black for 12 years! I think anything can suit anyone if you want it work and try to make adjustments needed to pull a look off :)
Thank you, I always struggle with finding the right color. I used to envy blondes because light colors suit them. However through this video I got new perspective about dark hair.

How does this change the way I look and is it important to know when your contrast has shifted to another category?
so im definitley a -1 contrast, i have blond eyelashes and blond eyebrows (but i dye them softbrown/taupe), ive had platinum whitish blond hair as a kid, over time it turned into medium blond(between level 8 and 9), very ashy, with natural light silvery blond highlights around the face. my hair is also very fine and sleek in texture. my skin used to be super pale, but it gained some color the last years. so my complexion fits in with the other -1 examples.
im definitley cool in coloration, very ashy dull hair naturally, and my eyes are dark blue, clear blue with a dark circle around it, which makes them appear dark blue in most lightings. too light hair washes me out, orangey/reddish/yellowish tones as well. ive had basically every hair color, and for the longest time i was fixiated on blond, platinum and ginger haircolors (still a sucker for strawberry blond, but it does not suit me...),
but ive dyed it dark for the last 5 years. ive had black hair before, and it does not suit me, and is so much effort, since the blond roots growing back look as if im balding from far away. i dye my hair in level 5 and 6 haircolors, it appears very dark against my skin, but it makes my eyes look so blue...and gives me the contrast i lack naturally.
in comparsion, with light ash blond or platinum hair, my eyes looked super dark, you couldnt tell they are blue unless you came really close. suprisingley, with the darkbrown hair (it looks dark brown against my complexion), i dont need much more then some lipliner/liptint, dyed eyebrows, and mascara, maybe a bit eyeliner. but clothe wise, i stick to lighter colors. it makes my skin look much clearer then blond hair does,
so to me it is perfect. suprisingley, people liked black hair on me, but without make up i felt like a ghost, and with make up kind of like a 2008 emo girl. so, those are my two cents !

Honestly, I'd rather have lighter hair since my mom has it, but my father (with whom I don't live anymore) has black hair and eyes, so I have dark brown hair and eyes. But I think I would color my hair black
Ahahah amazing comment! 👏😂
aissani imane hey, dark hair and brown eyes have advantages too; there’s something being developed which can change brown eyes to any other colour using lasers to remove outer layers of brown melanin to get the desired colour. However once done it is permanent and can’t be performed again. Also if you really want blonde hair, bleach your dark hair and maybe dye it... but why would you want to give up your beautiful natural colour? Same goes with the eyes; if they suit you, don’t change them.
I related to every word 😂
My desire and attraction towards long, black hair outweighs whether it suits my skin tone or not!
I have dark brown eyes and fair cool toned skin, black hair makes my eyes stand out and gives me an overall clear complexion.❤
I also have dark eyebrows and eyelashes, so even though i have pretty light skin i can still support the contrast of black.

I'm Warm and Soft (Dull, Muted) and my hair is dark brown with reddish reflections. During college I tried a jet black dye and was really surprised that it looked so weird and separate; I assumed being a Latina it would suit me. Now when I dye my hair, I choose softer hues.
same!!
Thank you for this !! We are identical & I was debating on dying my hair black !

How did you go from black hair to a more natural brown?
Alice Johnson i let the black color wash out over time and rinsed my hair with camomile tea after each wash. Let the tea soak in for a while and rinsed with water again. The tea made a huge difference in lighting my hair.

Me, an asian: i wonder if i look good with my black hair in the past 24 years
I love my black hair. I’m sure you look great. 💖 - Fellow Asian
I also agree with you - maybe because black is technically a shade not a color?
I guess very dark brown or black hair can suit anyone. It's just a matter of how much you need to work to pull it off. Maybe do a bit more makeup, maybe change completely the color palette of your makeup and clothes, maybe tan a bit or use bronzer/blush/lipstick, eye shadow / eyeliner etc.
Black doesn’t look good on everyone. Not even in clothes.

I have neutral skin colouring so I tend change it between a warm brown and a ash brown depending on the season.

i think aly talks more on looking natural, so if you're trying to look, well, unnatural, it wouldn't entirely apply
11:44 She brings this up
When I was younger and in my emo phase I used to dye my hair blue black. I’m a soft natural with warm, olive/dusty light skin. I loved it because it really made me look paler and a little dead haha. My natural hair color is a level 4 dark neutral/warm brown and even that washes me out. It makes me look older and more tired. I now dye my hair a natural copper shade that suits my features and coloring better (I think).
gawky_angel i personally love that pale skin with black hair (lookin dead) combo 💗💗💗

I don't even know what category am I xD
I thought I was +2 originally cuz I have such pail skin with dark hair and dark eyes. But my skin is very warm and soft and not so much clear or cool, and my hair is more of a dark brown than a jet black, and although my eyes look dark, they're really green in the sun. With all that being said I now think I'm +1 but thought I was +2 cuz the rest of my family is blue/green eyes with blonde hair and cool skin tones so I look VERY contrasted next to them. But I'm not as contrasted and clear next to actual +2 people. I hope this helps

Is it possible to have naturally black hair... but look MUCH BETTER with lighter hair? My natural dark hair brings out my ashy undertones and dark circles too much. I look vibrant with light brown and blondes🤗
Nature is not always perfect
I believe it is possible. I have very dark hair and it's not too bad but the type of honey-coloured hair my sister has (and technically I could've had, too) looks just bomb on me. I have mostly round features and lots of softness in my face and I think lighter hair somehow plays into that softness whereas dark hair makes my face look like there is a level or area of colour in my appearance that doesn't belong with the rest.
Yes, Beyoncé has natural dark hair but she look much better with lighter hair!

I dye my hair black. My coloring (eyes, skin, hair) is very similar to Eva Green's and darker hair suits me much better than my natural medium brown.
I'm naturally black (raven-haired) with blue undertones and silver reflections when the light is bright and intense. And I love my dark features.
I love dye my hair black, because my black eyes look so sweet and my skin is more luminous.
I admire people who can wear it nicely 🖤
ahh, i think i'm the same as you! really wanna try a dark brown though, hmm.

"Dark hair and freckles won't look right" me sat here with naturall dark hair and freckles... :(
I had a light beige hair (8 level) and I hated how mousy I looked sometimes.
I find that black hair suits the first woman at 17:38 very well :)
Same, she looks really beautiful and mysterious, almost like a dark fairy idk 💖
WHO is she
Yes, and the other one looks quite good too.

Hey I know this was a long time ago but what dye did you use ?
My mom has super small and dainty facial feautures. For a long time she had either bobs or pixie cuts rocking her natural hair color, which is black. But this year she decided to embrace her silver grays and she looks AMAZING. Funny thing is that her subtle wrinkles are less noticeable now, she looks even younger! Light hair soften her already soft features, she almosts looks ingenue now.
I have olive skin and when I used black hair due to darken my dark brown hair It Made my complexion so ashy and darker ( my skin looked brighter before dying) it didnt suit me at all 😅
H Z Same here, same here. We pale olives look great with ashy highlights. I have balayage now and I get many compliments.
@@karma4475 so white people can't have black hair???
Algorithm 10 I have natural black it but it washes me out. I look really pale
What you mentioned about ashy skin (like many of us olive skinned) is so true. Black is the absolutely worst color for us. I have dark brown hair but I do ashy blonde highlights and gives so much needed light to the face!
I have a cool and soft skin, on the ashy side, and black hair (and black glasses frames) look hideous on me.
@@kuramacabre I'm a cool delicate (olive) and black hair suits me much better than my natural dark blonde.
@@kristines9855 It depends on your contrast levels and that comes from bone structure more than undertone. I have naturally high contrast, but since I am TR lower contrast suits me better.
@@kuramacabre TR IS Said by kibbe to Look best in high contrast. Can you Point Out where you have your Info from?
@@ilinel1321 From actually looking at myself in the mirror, as well as other TRs lol. I had natural darker hair, toned it down and it complements me so much better. I expetimented with wigs before doing it, took photos and paid attention to my features in black and white, I look so much better with low contrast. Also, regarding to clothes and make up, I look better it less hash accents. TR are closer to R than to D, who actually look better with high contrast.
I know a girl though that has naturally black black hair and naturally has freckles and blue eyes...
so I guess she is an exception to the rule...
cause you said that dark hair and freckles don’t match
she is gorgeous.
Nope it's really normal i have that not the eyes yet xD
True,I know of two beauties of my youth with natural black hair and lots of freckles. One had blue eyes, the other green
wow i am loving the more detailed explanations for everything!!!!!! so impressive how you notice not such features but maintenance and habits!
Im pale with green eyes and i think it looks great and i get a lot of compliments
That's such a pretty combination 😍
That sounds pretty 🥺
Wow, the fact that you know the difference between dark brown and black hair makes me love your channel even more ❤️
I'm very muted and soft in my coloring but if I ever want a drastic change I'll probably dye my hair black to see if it suits my grey eyes or if they're too muted to suit that kind of darkness.
did u do it?
It`s quite common in Ireland (they call the phenotype "black Irish") and looks absolutely stunning
i'm 100% sure i shouldn't dye my hair black or anything really dark / intense. i could maybe do a medium-dark brown, at most. thanks, aly!
My cousin is a romantic with very bright cool toned skin
I saw her with very dark bright hair and with more dull brown and she looked muuuuch better with the dark black hair coz it went along with the brightness of her skin
So yess Aly I agree with your views😁😘😘😘
Not sure.
@@taniahajali9462its definitely your facial features that make it look good. You’re beautiful !!
I am Albino and coloured my hair black for 12 years! I think anything can suit anyone if you want it work and try to make adjustments needed to pull a look off :)
I'm warm w soft skin. Once dyed my hair almost black because I confused the shade of the dye and it looked really weird on me
Your video got into my recommendations before dying my hair black.
THANKS! You saved me from making a mistake ^^
Can you do video like this for red hair? Love your videos.
Thank you, I always struggle with finding the right color.
I used to envy blondes because light colors suit them.
However through this video I got new perspective about dark hair.
I actually want black hair for the paleness and greyness cause idk I like it
