- Watch the thrilling elite mixed climbing finals of the 26th Ouray Ice Competition - streamed LIVE - Saturday January 23 from start to finish. The action starts at 11 am MST (1800 GMT) when many of the best men and women climbers go for the gold in the cold of Colorado at one of the premier ice climbing destinations in the world. Expected finish at 2 pm MST (2100 GMT) with the winners and closing ceremonies.
As part of its 2021 Ice Climbing season, the UIAA - International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation- is supporting the global distribution of the climbing competition from Ouray. In an exciting weekend of top-class ice climbing the UIAA-organised European Championships is taking place in Champagny-en-Vanoise, French Alps. A stream of this event will be made available on the UIAA platforms shortly after competition finishes.

At 20:30, what ice axes are those? I’ve seen them before but only heard of them as “a Korean prototype”.

3:54:08 why is he climbing with large tri-cams hanging from him in a competition?
Let me preface, I love to climb and ice climb as well, but if you can just kick your feet into that massive hanging wall couldn't you also just swing your tools into and climb it like ice. Why must they move to the pre place holds and "mixed climb" when it seems like they could just swing their tool in anywhere and climb it like overhanging ice. Thanks.
the ply wouldnt offer anywhere near enough purchase to hold an axe. plus at some point liam mentions that the tools arent really designed for swinging into ice as theyre dry tooling tools
so they are not allowed to hit the ice ???
they can theres just not much point because is quicker and easie to just hook the holes in the ice

Also, surely the more people climbing on the ice the more unstable it gets and so people who climb near the end are at a disadvantage?
Its mixed climbing. Not ice climbing.
At 3.05, "that was an incredible lock off", I agree. "That was essentially a one arm pull up". You're not serious, are you ? Two hands on a tool is a two handed pull up.
Can you do any pull ups?
