I don't think the intention is to actually set people up, because that's less interesting than watching people be petty to each other. I think that's why the button is so weird about everything too. Keeps things "interesting."

In line with Charlie's comments about them experimenting with the blindfolds, I'd like to see an episode of The Button where the button just never turns red, forcing whoever's there to actually have a meaningful conversation for longer than 30 seconds. Maybe they could do it with a contestant who keeps buzzing everyone, like the last woman they had on this episode. As a penalty.

Having them blindfolded improved the show a tiny bit, but there still is almost no incentive NOT to push the button. If you push it, you get to stay. If they push it before you, you have to leave.

To be honest I would've respected it if he admitted why, but going "no, not a problem for me" without even attempting to make something up was cringe.
The Button needs to have a rule where after a certain number of presses the person that keeps spamming it gets taken out unless they can give an actual reason as to why they pressed it
I get your point and agree in principle, but it would be easy for most to just make up a reason and the producers can't exactly call bullshit on it because it would be arbitrary.
