hey bro you make some great content. I read 2 Warhammer novels over 3 weeks in the duel diagnosis wing of the looney bin after watching some of your videos. 1 was about a drukari named eisenhorn getting a ⚔️ or something for Khaine. can you do a Warhammer v. Warhammer 40k video?
the other was about a young warrior from mutant tribe that rode giant elephants. the other tribes worshipped Nurgle and Tzeentch. There was a champion of Khaine or Khorne killing everybody and the leader of the wizards following Tzeentch was the female wizard. At the end the main character climbed a giant demon of the blood god then had to go up against the undefeated champion of the blood god. Skulls for the skull throne!

Being a Chaos Marine clearly isn't the most stable career option, but honestly I wonder more about the day-to-day of life in the Warp. Like, you go to the toilet and have to worry whether the seat will try to bite you or not. Or you eat your lunch and the chaos sausages just will not stop screaming even after being swallowed. Maybe even getting a shot at greatness, glory, wealth, revenge is far more preferable than living a single other day as something barely superior to a servitor, while the Ecclesiarchy dares still call you a "human". Maybe the "humanity" you have always been taught to be proud of, has always been the burden that chained you to the mud of a deathworld. A burden you'll be all too pleased to shed. Or maybe it was out there, among the trenches: you were called upon by the glorious Imperial Guard, to carry out the will of the Emperor among the savage stars. You were promised a future as humanity's shield. But then you found yourself stuck in a ditch for weeks, barely holding out against an unending tide of nightmarish brutes, screaming WAAAGH! at the top of their lungs, as they chop your companions' heads off, one by one. In the end, you are alone. The enemy is ever closer, and reinforcements won't come to your aid. You just know it. You get to truly know hunger, cold, despair, as you make your way back to HQ, broken in body and spirit, hoping that when you'll tell the Commissar that your position was lost, that you had no choice but to bring the grave news, he will not put a bullet in your head for cowardice. But then, the truth just strikes you, harder than a mortar shell, when you come back at the frontline and see that no one even knew you were there, the entire time. Your reward for all you went through? A couple of spare limbs and a new day, month, year on the frontlines, before one day, the regiment will leave the planet, for another one, onto another pointless hell. The planet is lost, but as long as enough enemies have been killed, for the forseable future, the battle is considered "won". Or maybe, the regiment will still depart the broken wasteland, but this time leaving you behind, forgotten once again. Once again, alone. And then, out of the void, ships come down from the skies, drop-pods crash into the city, they land among the ruins, maybe exactly when you're going to work like always, under the incessants hymns at the voxophones. And suddenly there's silence, then there's screaming, then there's... something else. You feel it. You taste it, in that moment, when the Arbites are no longer there, when the Comissar is long gone and the sky turns red. Hell is creeping out of the cracking reality, but you don't care. You don't care about anything, anymore because for that one, brief, insignificant moment, you're free. And when the skies come crashing down, when the underhive burns around you, you take life in your hands and you see them: angels from another god, clad in their armours, powerful, terrifying display of a potential you were long denied. Maybe they will butcher you, like the rest of your people, maybe they'll call to you. But it doesn't matter. You come to them regardless, because that "maybe" is a promise of power, one of release, of vengeance, of pure, blissfull, desire fullfilled. The kind of "maybe" you would wager your soul on, for a chance to get even to the Imperium that ate your soul alive, that left you to die because your life was nothing, compared to "the Emperor's light". But if no one will come to your aid, if nothing will save you, because that "light" is a lie, then you will try, and maybe fail, but try nonetheless to get that chance. Deep inside you know that you'll just be changing master. But for the first time in ages, it's a master YOU CHOSE. And this is worth every "maybe" in the world.
There's a Death Guard lord in the novel "Lords of Silence" who, upon returning to the Plague Planet, actually resides in a manor house he built himself, with sevants, gardens, Library etc. It sounded like a pretty chill place to kick back after a crusade into real space.
Said Marine hilariously writes down his experiences on campaign. Rather pointless, since I'm sure it won't last more than a day in the omnipresent decay of the Plague Planet.
I came here to say this - if I had to be chaos aligned, it would be Nurgle. A tranquil garden to live in, no pain or sickness, generally cheerful interactions with the locals...

Wait to you read about the iron warriors. If you're captured. They chain a mock lasgun to you and use you to clear mine fields and figure out firing ranges of fortresses.
Yeah, say what you want about living under the Imperium but surely this can’t be any better, right? At least being under suspicion by the Inquisition isn’t always going to end horribly in your favor or be a constant threat like a mutiny. As long as you do your duty and serve the emperor, you’d probably die before getting any dirt on you anyways. And at the very least you can trust your comrades not to fucking backstab you any day. And you get some form of luxury, albeit minimal and sparse. No amount of Daemonic power any Chaos God could offer me would convince me otherwise if it means my life sucks ass and is constant stress/fear/paranoia of my own friends.
@@Ankylosaurus_mangiventris Being a Chaos Marine is to me like being a girl back in high school, dealing with vicious cliques always on the lookout to stab you in the back. "The Mean Girls of Chaos!" Lol
Advancements in AI would make that a possibility It'd add the randomness of the warp, and if taught right, maybe by feeding it 40k RPG stories, could even adapt and grow the story if the player goes off the rails
As a lifelong fan of Chaos (ever since I saw the classic Daemon Prince by Juan Diaz when I was a kid) this latest series of videos has made me very happy to see! This one in particular makes me really want a sort of Mount and Blade style game where you lead a Chaos Warband in the Eye of Terror and have to make these kinds of decisions. Sadly, it doesn't seem like Chaos gets to be playable in video games any more. Instead we get games like Boltgun, where a single Sternguard Veteran guns down Chaos Terminators and Greater Daemons like it's no big deal.
it's not the same but you can mod rimworld to be like that. it ends up being sort of like harvest moon on catachan. This was a really good execution on "what it's like being a chaos marine". I really like how you brought it all together at the end how there's so many "maybe's" -Possibilities that any other faction, probably wouldn't ever think about.
I've come to believe that to the average human, there would be little difference between Loyalist and Renegade Marines. For the Loyalist, there is just as much chance that you are going to defend the human or kill them either to protect a secret or stamp out a cult or infestation. For the Renegade, it would be the unpredictability...
It doesn't seem like the loyalist chapters get involved in the slaughter of citizenry. That is mostly from the Administratum bureaucrats of the Imperium that don't want information to get out. Very similar to how mainstream media works today, except I don't think they are hiring hitmen yet?
Now though there are some specific loyalist chapters that are kind of a-holes like vampiric Flesh Tearers and the Wulfen of the Space Wolves, which are dark lil secrets, but more of the "normal" chapters try to save humanity at every turn.
Well, I assume you mean in terms of practical outcomes they're similar because most likely you'll end up dead, but in universe and honestly even in reality they couldnt be more different. If as a guardsman you see Loyalist Space Marines being deployed you've certainly been surviving in circumstances that the worst thing you could possibly imagine, and even though you will almost certainly end up dying, especially if they're Grey Knights, your life is forfeit, but theres a good chance your world and family will survive. If you see Chaos Space Marines, youve almost certainly been surviving horrors that you couldnt possibly have imagined, and if you're lucky you and your family and everyone on your planet will get to die.
That is true chaos rentless paranoia slowly driving you to insanaty from all the maybes and what ifs never truly knowing what is and forever unable to be shure of anything
It sounds like my workplace, but we unfortunately don't wear magical battle armor, live for centuries, and lastly, nobody dies at the hands of colleagues! Lol
I just can't imagine a Chaos Marine of Nurgle, fighting another of Nurgle. They always seem so wholesome on the battlefield, laughing, saying pleasantries, sharing grubs that grow in one another.
It's black templar themed but if you like metal there's a band from where I live called Helsreach and they are fucking awesome. They got an album and a new single up on Spotify
If we are talking Owlcat, I wouldn't mind them doing a Black Crusade game. Also, if you like the Black Crusade Tabletop, it's out of print so...technically open to grabbing super cheap. Hint hint.
@@angelangelis8362 The problem is that not everybody likes to be evil. I agree they'd do a great job with it, but the target audience would be even more limited than the already (relatively) niche CRPG market.

What an incredible video! Really enjoyed the hypothetical situations throughout. Ultimately it shows the imperiums greatest weapon, its ingrained loyalty into its citizens. Divide and conquer chaos
I do love how this showcases the potential flaws of “eternal loyalty” when you are talking about immortals. It’s easy to be loyal forever when your forever is 80-90 years.
Great video! I've been in love with the Chaos Space Marines since reading ADB's Night Lord series, and then fell even more in love with Chaos after reading the Black Legion books he wrote. Like you said, best Author for all things Chaos-related.
Except Magnus and the Thousand Sons. The man seems to have a genuine, "angry fanfiction writer" type hate for Big Red. He ruined Graham McNeill's entire amazing trilogy just to have a "Vulkan destroys Magnus with facts and logic" moment, and he made his OC claim to have forced Magnus to kneel before Abaddon. The First Heretic is still one of the best HH novels, but he has a serious bias. Just goes to show that with Black Library's shotgun approach to storytelling (many authors writing on the same subject with little to no centralized editorial control, justified by "unreliable narrator" and "nothing is canon") no one author can really be the best at everything.
The 9th Edition Chaosmarines Codex opened with a short story very much inspired by that famous post. A World Eaters champion sought out a prophetess and She told him a similar maybe-future.
Yes and no, they still have the same problems, in the book Lords of silence, Vaux struggles with similar issues. obviously not as amny because of the time span the books takes place in. but i would say since the DG is one of the more organised legions your other legoin warbands are "more Loyal" to you at baseline.

Thanks again for giving me something to focus on when my nerve pain leaves me shaking n sweating, it sucks, but having something to help distract myself is ambrosia to me haha. Gluck big guy looking forward to the next video!
One element I think is interesting I wish GW would focus on is that so many CSM in the big ranks should be cultists born and raised on the Daemon Worlds.
100% but that would require GW to flesh out the "bad guys" instead of more primaris. I think there was an animation or trailer for Battlefleet Gothic which showed the chaos lord character being selected as a cultist and made into an Astartes.
My guesses before I watch this video are Death Guard: You have the worst cold of your Damn life Talking full runny nose and sore throat Thousand Son: You got magic and tentacles and shit Emperors Children: You're a creep, and you still do have tentacles, but for DIFFERENT things World Eater: You're in a constant state of the anger you feel when you see a dog get abused or when someone steals your parking spot Black Legion: idk you have black colored armor or some shit Malice Marines: You're not even here cause your non canon
For the black legion it would probably be something along the lines of "You worship every single chaos god just like the warmaster does. When you finally die, none of the gods save your soul and its sucked into the warp, where you become a horrible demon."
Oh, WOW! I really got into this one! Few, if any, have ever told it from this perpective before! It really shows how it could be like if YOU were among THEM!
Sounds like that would be a really awseome video game all by itself You create your own chapter of a legion of your choice and then you fight and negotiate
Thus, is like Mental Chaos for us humans in life. What-if? Maybe? Uncertainty.... Warhammer 40k has hit ways in my psyche I didn't think were possible. A nice video overall into the psychology, as well as overall life of a Chaos Marine.
Ok, so... I have a very, VERY weird think about this video. And that weird think is that I already hear 75% all of this before. Like, nearly all word to word and the almost constant "Maybe". And it's hit me - around 7 to 8 years ago, I just discover 40k and i ask about "If Chaos is nearly unbeatable, why it almost always loses?" one of my college friends, who was more like a lore geek, and he told me something like this, but he rephrased it in a different way. "Why Chaos will never win?" - this how he starts thins topic and he ends it with words: "There is nothing certain - only maybe, maybe, maybe... And nothing more." (Almost) same example and context, with quite a few differences here and there, but the meaning the same - his and your explanation of how Chaos Marines lives is different, but non the less, similar, more then in one way.
I'm a trucker. My dispatcher knows that anytime they send me to Jersey, they're gunna get an earfull. I'll do it, but by God, they're gunna know I ain't happy about it..
At first I found the *maybe* 's annoying but after the halfway mark my anxiety grew with each one and I dreaded hearing the word as much as my alarm clock.
This video really puts the day to day grind of being a part of the Forces of Chaos into perspective and really (war)hammers in their chaotic nature. On another note, I think it would be neat if you did a deep dive into either the War of the Beast or the lore surrounding Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka. Just a suggestion.
This is a nightmare. Zero loyality, zero trust, constant competition, constant plotting, conniving, plotting, constant uncertainty, eternal chaos. Damn...
I love how this video was perfectly made to help jog ideas for anyone who is trying to play a narrative campaign or Crusade in 40K. Amazingly well done, hoping to find more videos done in this same style for every faction!
A video would be interesting about CSM that dont see themselves as CSM. For instance they have such different way of percieving things and think furthermore that they dont have changed a bit mentally and physically.
the night lords trilogy painted such a different picture of CSM. And made me love them, even being someone more interested in xenos lore and on tabletop.
I’d imagine it probably sucks unless you’re in the Red Corsairs. Why? Because… Being a pirate seems alright to me Do what you want ‘cuz a pirate is free You are a pirate!
Despite not being a Chaos fan, I think it's my favorite lore video by Weshammer. I listened to these 20 minutes of constant "maybe" while I was painting, and I was completely captivated. I didn't realize until the outro that it was just that. Maybe.
16:40 - Or, you're looked upon with a graceful smile by the Changer of Ways. Old beaky does enjoy bit of subterfuge. It's his whole gig after all. He could grant you many a gift for crossing a particular line. Then again, he might make your intestines sentient just to see what happens. Risk/reward
Was the chaotic delivery for this vid on purpose?!? I absolutely loved it, literally felt the chaos creep in my brain keeping up. This is one of your best!!!
Do you plan to do a video on the rogue trader game? If you haven't started or yet reached the ending of the game, depending on how you performed, it paints a pretty good beacon of hope in the 40k universe. That is again, depending on your own choices. I didn't regret a single action personally
New drinking game: take a shot every time Wes says “maybe…” All jokes aside, this paints a perfect picture of the uncertainty that would be living life as a Chaos marine. Love your stuff, Wes. Give me some Arjac and Space Wolves lore.
For Chaos, the only commodity of use or value is power. Everything else is a derivative of it. In the end, for every bit you have, it really does seem as though there is always someone else who has more.
I would've figured you'd come at this from the perspective of someone else. Like a Black Legion member or an Iron warrior. Chaos marines who didn't wholesale get sold into chaos. The Word Bearers I would think had the easiest time adjusting to the eye of terror.
ay idk if you read these comments, but I watch ur videos over a certain Australian tuber because you don't, dishonestly at least, push real life political opinions as fact in warhammer. anyways nice vid

Great writing.. bravo
Peak Warhamemr stuff here man
There's a Death Guard lord in the novel "Lords of Silence" who, upon returning to the Plague Planet, actually resides in a manor house he built himself, with sevants, gardens, Library etc.

And the inquisitors love big chaos fans like you, INQUISITION

This was a really good execution on "what it's like being a chaos marine". I really like how you brought it all together at the end how there's so many "maybe's" -Possibilities that any other faction, probably wouldn't ever think about.
I've come to believe that to the average human, there would be little difference between Loyalist and Renegade Marines. For the Loyalist, there is just as much chance that you are going to defend the human or kill them either to protect a secret or stamp out a cult or infestation. For the Renegade, it would be the unpredictability...
The loyalist will at the worst just kill you, the traitor marines can likely have a far darker fate in mind.
@@MorteWulfe Do not forget the Iron hands
So Chaos is basically an endless stream of "or maybe..." and "but what if..."
That is true chaos rentless paranoia slowly driving you to insanaty from all the maybes and what ifs never truly knowing what is and forever unable to be shure of anything

You should also read the Fabius Bile omnibus. Not ADB but still has great details about chaos.
As much as I hate ads I always love Wes just straight going "Look I got bills, here's the video sponsor."

Gotta love that Emperor TTS's "Murderfucked into existence" joke lives on
It's a remarkably accurate and concise summation of the lore, TBH.
@@Kevc00 That sounds super cool! And yeah all other fractions really suffer for GW's over focus.
My guesses before I watch this video are
Death Guard: You have the worst cold of your Damn life
Talking full runny nose and sore throat
Thousand Son: You got magic and tentacles and shit
Emperors Children: You're a creep, and you still do have tentacles, but for DIFFERENT things
World Eater: You're in a constant state of the anger you feel when you see a dog get abused or when someone steals your parking spot
Black Legion: idk you have black colored armor or some shit
Malice Marines: You're not even here cause your non canon
For the black legion it would probably be something along the lines of "You worship every single chaos god just like the warmaster does. When you finally die, none of the gods save your soul and its sucked into the warp, where you become a horrible demon."
Oh, WOW! I really got into this one! Few, if any, have ever told it from this perpective before! It really shows how it could be like if YOU were among THEM!

What-if?
Weshammer sounds like Tzeentch while narrating the story with maybes and what ifs
Take a shot every time he says "Maybe".... then "maybe" have your friends promptly call for an ambulance.
