Being natural is part of what makes youtubers great, you have a true natural nature that is captivating. I'm a new yachty that has lots to fix and enjoy watching others going through the same motions. Please keep going strong. I'm enjoying it.
Just found your channel, wanted to say for anyone leaving a sailboat on the hard for an extended amount of time, you should drill a small hole at the bottom of the bilge, it will allow water to drain and you can easily fill the hole with epoxy when you return.
That is a great design to start with. I bought an Irwin 37 ketch in about the same condition 24 years ago, aptend have never been sorry. Lots of work and improvements, but well worth it. The centerboard is worth using when you are sailing to windward, if you ever are tempted to cut the fiberglass and let the board escape from it's prison. You will be glad.
No need to feel embarrassed. Everyone goes through what you are doing when buying a used boat that has sit on the hard for any length of time. Great explanations and followup of the pump out. I would suggest mentioning the the project list you are planning to get the boat into the water! We all can see it will not be happening immediately. But I like following what things are needed to be done to splash a boat from the hard!!!! Good luck, keep the faith and don't give up! You will be in the water soon!!! (From the desert of Scottsdale, Arizona via Puerto Panesco, Gulf of California).
I was thinking of doing a project list video but I doubt that anyone wants to watch a 2+ hour long video. Thank you for your support and we will try to get a mini list going.
I just caught yalls video. I'm digging it and the boat. Keep it real and don't worry about getting the ending right with the right lines. Subscribed and watching the rest of yalls videos. Keep'em coming.
I did the clicky stuff, because I liked the video and that you are taking on this challenge, and I especially like your sense of humour. All the very best!
I think this boat has great possibilities it might be hard to maintain a positive attitude about it but you can get there and look at what you got to work with there's some good bones in there
I have very positive attitude...I'm positive it will be a lot of work, I'm positive it will be a lot of money, I'm positive it will take a long time, and I'm positive it will be better than when I started! Good Bones...YES, I spent a couple years looking before I bought this Diamond in the rough.
I've done all that clicky stuff, I look forward to seeing your next video! From my experience, all things from 1976 are worth their weight in gold, me included!! 😂
Thank you. I didn't think my video skills were that good and I know they need improvement. My editing skills need some help too. They should improve as time goes on.
Ok the end of this video was hilarious put more of her on and you'll be golden for funny comedy❣️🤣🥰 Good luck with Diy monster of a boat. I subbed too 😉
More of Sonya in future videos. I jokingly tried to convince her to put on a bikini like all the other channels. She said, "You don't want to lose subscribers!"
@@thewatercamper She actually funny to watch just cuz she has no idea what to say on RUclips and it's confusingly funny 🤣 make her watch a boating channel like sailing good bad ugly 😉
Powder tied will work great once you get it dry and are ready to start scrubbing the bilge to get it clean.. it will remove the grease ,oil etc with a brush and a hose
I've recently fallen completely in awe of sailboats and have plans to learn how to sail come spring.. I know that those Irwin 42s are well built boats and the owners love them and they've got a online owners group full of information.. where you guys located in our great country
The speed sensor was already out of it before we got it and that is what kept it from filling up with even more water. All of the seacocks were froze up and as of today I have all but one freed up.
Great video. You'll have a spectacular boat, when you're finished. Mind me asking. What's your background? Asking, because you don't seem easily phased by what you've found so far and I'd guess that you have a lot more relevant skills than most RUclipsrs. Were you a professional seaman or are you a veteran? The dry sense of humour is a 'tell', but I could be wrong. Anyways, best of luck and don't be too concerned about your video shooting / editing skills. As I said, you're doing a lot better than the vast majority. Your banter and personalities will get you huge numbers of subscribers eventually. As much as all the informational value of the videos you produce. Kindest, from across the pond. (Northern Ireland)
Yes, I am Veteran. Over the years I've done a lot of things but mainly the trucking industry as an Owner, Operator, Driver, and a Diesel Mechanic. I have learned how to repair what others have "FIXED" Thanks for your support!
You might have nailed where the water came from..if there is fuel, then there might be a pinhole leak in one of the fuel tanks..best to check all the tanks just to be sure .
The water line in the cockpit is a dead giveaway. In episode #3 I opened the fuel tank and it is moved forward about 2 inches from it's original location. I have not noticed any more diesel in the bilge so it might have just been some that was spilled in the past and never cleaned up...... well that is what I hope.
How'd the bilge get full of diesel?? Atleast it's not full of water and rusting everything to death.. can't believe that you have 11k subscribers already and your channel is only a month or so old.. there's other channels doing this same thing but they don't have the amount of subscribers.. probably cause they're not straight honest down to earth kinda real world people.. keep the videos coming..I subscribed from just south of Moline Illinois.. make the videos as long as you want..people will fast forward what they don't want to watch and the more footage you have of your restoration the more you can look back on when you're sailing and enjoying the efforts of your hard work
We are not like other channels doing videos just to get views and subscribers, we are just keeping it real and showing what we are doing. We didn't expect to get more than about 10 so we are surprised at how many we have.
I can relate to the awkwardness of speaking to a camera at the end. It would be much worse for me in your shoes, and my wife would never do it ...period. Then again, I am looking for a sailboat...hmmm.
Maybe get yourself a cheap tripod for your phone so you can put it down while working and filming and you can use it as a handle so your thumbs out of view..I will watch either way
Even though all the head scratching is causing me to lose my hair, I actually enjoy figuring the problems out and repairing them. Looking forward to putting her into the water.
@@thewatercamper Don't be too afraid for your hair, you leave it at the barber, have a little patience and you will see the pleasure of the result when you break 👍🇹🇳
Now that I finished the video it was great!!! You 2 are entertaining..
We are glad you like the video.

There is a boat near mine and the owner only sails it 2 months a year. He put a stainless steel fitting with a plug in his keel.
That is a great design to start with. I bought an Irwin 37 ketch in about the same condition 24 years ago, aptend have never been sorry. Lots of work and improvements, but well worth it. It is always nice to meet another Irwin owner. I think you might like EP5.
Now the fun begins.
Yes a bunch of fun and a lot of elbow grease.
I chuckled my way through this episode, and look forward to future episodes..!!
I am glad you enjoyed it and I am stubborn and don't plan on changing my ways.
Great stuff! Hope you enjoy this boat.
I am already enjoying it even though all I have done is work on it and clean it.

Keep going love your determination you can only go up from here
That's what I keep saying. every thing I accomplish makes the sailboat that much better.
I love it...keep going...don't be shy.
We love you 😍
Aww shucks...Thank you so very much!
Looks like to have great potential.Good luck, take your time and it will be worth it.
Yes! She has great bones and I'm really looking forward to restoring her.
I can see why you bought her, great project. I'm looking forward to seeing the cleanup, and what lies underneath. good luck guys and keep posting!
So far everything lying underneath is more stuff that needs cleaned or fixed.
Good'ay from Australia, yes I liked the video and am looking forward in following your adventure in the restoration of the vessel!
Hello to you too, I am glad you like the videos. It is going to take a lot of time but every thing I do gets the boat that much closer to sailing.

Thanks for doing the clicky stuff, my sarcasm and humor have been lifelong and not going anywhere, anytime soon if I can help it!
Enjoyed the video! Its a huge project, hope somebody paid you to take the boat.
You should see some of them we looked at that were 10x worse that they wanted 3x as much for.
Awesome
I really appreciate all that you have to say and I am glad you like the video.
like your videos keep it up
Glad you like them and thanks for subscribing.
You have a great start. You already have followers who comment.
I was very surprised when people started commenting but not as surprised as I was when people were liking the videos.

Looks like your the new kids on the block for sailing channels hope your here for the long haul

Use oil absorbing mats in the bilge, they will leave the water behind while soaking up oil and diesel fuel.
I did bring some of them with me when I started cleaning the bilge and quickly realized that I needed to pump out the 200+ gallons of water first.

I have been doing a lot of reading in the Irwin forums and I have not found much about the 42's. We are located in eastern North Carolina.
I like down to Earth people on sail boats - so I guess there's something wrong with me too.
It's always nice to see that I am not the only one that has something wrong with them. Thanks for the support.
hey sparkee. might want to open the thru hull like a depth sounder to let that water out.

What are your goals?
We have been living aboard in Stuart area on our sailboat for five years now.
Our goal is to get her back in the water and see where life takes us!

Give it a little while and you will be old pro's.
We already have the OLD part covered, we just need to get a grip on the PRO part!
I don't know what you paid for that boat. You'll never loose. Anything you do ups the value big time.
Those are my thoughts.
I don't have any thing to do , I'll come and help
You better be careful, we may take you up on that!
Needs love.
We are willing to give her the love she needs!
In the same boat as you, except I haven't handed over the money for my hole in the water yet...
Make sure you're ready to be committed if you buy a hole in the water.
