Dan for the tower roof, here further south we see turrets constructed on the ground, then tiled. A specialist crane driver then lifts the turret and places it. If you have been watching Chateau du Theil, you will have seen exactly this happening.

I have watched every single episode. I've never commented, because I wouldn't know what my favorite part is, and it just gets better. (I actually gasped at the next episode!) One of my favorite things throughout, though, is watching y'all's teamwork, especially considering such different personalities. I remember the first time Brian met Nick; he didn't seem sure of what to make of him and he looked really annoyed every time Nick threw the cement into the mixer, bag and all. So I had to chuckle seeing him throwing the whole bag in in this episode. It's the big things like in the next episode, but also these little nuggets. Just wonderful!

Have you considered building the roof on a jig on the ground and then hiring a 60 ton crane for a single lift to place the roof on top?
You could have the entire thing built, sheathed and tiled before the lift.
Save yourself a metric shit ton of time and effort plus there is the additional safety of working on the ground.

thankfully, all came together.❤ but with your job, he would need a giant crane, I think!

You should build the cap to the tower on the ground ( frame/plywood/shingles) and have it craned upto the top and fitted to it. You could build the tower cap on the ground in a fraction of the time it would take building it in place on top and it would also be much, much safer. The only logistical issue would be to make sure you could get a crane onto the property and close enoughto the building.

Are you going to mark the reconstruction finish date?
My dad, with any new cement work on a build, was dated with a coin of the year of work. I've carried on the tradition when he and I built a 2 car garage. A few years later, my wife and I built our forever home in 2007 using the coin marker counter sunk to the surface to still expose the coin to see the date.
I wish my dad would have been able to see it, but he passed 2 years before we started the build.

Watching 'help we bought a village' today, when you went to see Popee, it was amazing to watch and to see how much you have done. One forgets so quickly!

Brian you are hooked to! We can’t stop watching, it must be an incredible feeling, waking up this sleeping beauty.
Oh Dan you popped up on my feed, the channel 4 programme. I loved the interview with the gentleman who lived at the chateau all those years ago. His smile was magic when you showed him the photos of your work.

Throughly enjoyed your appearance on ‘Help we brought a village’ very informative I especially enjoyed the interview with the French comedian (apologies can’t remember how to spell his name) and the special memories he had as a little boy at the Chateau!

Don’t know how much a crane would cost but build the tower on the ground and crane on. Time and effort saved, not to mention safety, would surely out weigh the cost 😀

Please don't add to his pressure--we are all just glad he is allowing us to see what they are doing. I am sure once the roof is on, he will make tehm longer. Right now he is in a big PUSH to get everything closed in by winter.
