This is by far the best tutorial on every aspect and feature of the Neutron. You do a great job with your explanations of all of the controls, layout and hidden tools. I’m not new to Synths by any means having started with an Arp 2600 and Moogs in the early 1970’s but your video got me up to speed using my Neutron in less than an hour. Thanks for doing such a great job!
Thanks !! Well I really do my research and create a script, so all of this is planned like a course with chapters and sections. Takes a lot more time than a simple review but well, it's something else. Thanks for the comment, if you can like and subscribe, that helps keep on doing it.
Thanks David. It is a really cool synth for that....it can cooperate with other synths very well because of the patch bay. I will release the patch bay video, one by one in a couple of days.
It is ironic right ? The deepmind and neutron are the best in my opinion if you want more bank for the buck. The other ones are great, but they have a very specific vibe, like the K2 or the Model D
I've owned synths for 40 years, but nothing modular, just your regular mono synths and romplers, I got a Neutron out of curiosity and frankly spent a couple of days hating it until I watched this video, now I love it! Your approach to this video is superb, I try to do similar with my Headrush videos, but you my friend are on a another level, well done!
Great tutorial !!! ps. There is also visual tuning "hidden" in Neutron. Long press [RANGE] and press a key on the keyboard (or any controller). Tune your oscillator watching LFO indicators. Works only when Neutron app is not present!
I'm still working my way through this tutorial but want to let you know I think it's terrific, the best one I've watched for the Neutron, for any Behringer synth. Exactly the right balance of detail and pace (many such videos race through things so quickly I can't follow the instructions without constantly stopping and replaying sections). And I see that you've made similar tutorials for other Behringer models I own too so look forward to watching those in due course. Behringer really ought to put you on a salary for providing this excellent material.
Thanks Steve. Yeah, I noticed everything on YT is either a review o a more complete review, which is the same as review with examples. Instead of doing the same, I started doing guides, like a course about the synth. So, the style of the video changes because I need to explain the parts and provide an example just to make sure you got it. Just like any course. Glad you liked it and maybe you were able to get something good out of it. Oh, of course if you can like and sub, that helps the channel. Cheers mate.
I love my Neutron and anything that helps me understand and integrate it into my modular setup better is a huge help. Thank you for the hard work of setting this up and making this.
If your level of detail, and fine explanation were only applied to the teachers I had in public school system growing up I’d be a different person. Thank you!

I have been working with three of these in my setup. And your video still adds to what these fair priced monsters can do. Thanks. Looking forward to your Pro-1 and K-2 contribution.
Thanks !!...Neutron is great. From Behringer, this and deepmind are just great. Lots of possibilities. K-2 I can promise I have one, pro-1 I cannot promise because I don't have one. Hopefully someday Behringer listens and maybe they can give me one to create a guide at least.

Really fantastic overview and tutorial. Been eyeing of these up for a while and this will definitely help me learn. Appreciate your time and effort in creating this great video 👍
@@XNBeatsMusic Brill. I'm looking to start my journey soon as been interested for a number of years now. Thinking of getting a minilab MKII and the neutron with a 2i2. Thanks! Beautiful and useful explanation ... I have had it for a couple of years but I always use it little because I didn't understand some things well. Now I've fixed it, and on Monday I'll see the other part on patchbay! Hello and thanks.
thanks carlo !! yeah this is that kind of synth. It requires attention and little bit of effort, like let's say an ARP 2600, you need to learn it before you can squeeze everything out of it. It is like having a race car and use it just to go to the supermarket, makes no sense, take it to the road and see what it can do :)
If you triggering with an external sequencer, eg Korg SQ1, get inside and tune your oscillators to a more accurate spread to voltage. Two tiny trim pots on the left hand side of the board as you left it out. Very easy, but boy, does it sing!😊
This synth has been my gateway into modular, very lucky that I found a used one for $300 USD. My only gripe with it is that the main knob for OSC1, it's slightly off to the left when it's in tune to C, which is a bit annoying but for what this thing is capable of I think that's moot. Your video has been a fantastic tool to help learn what precisely everything does, since I couldn't quite figure out everything just by fiddling and listening alone. Having the oscilloscopes onscreen was a massive help in terms of getting a visual grip on how everything works, esp the filters. Now for that pesky patch bay...
Many thanks for posting this, the most complete Neutron guide I've seen yet. Behringer should hire you as instructor / tech support! OK, just an idea. I'll be checking out your patch video next. Any chance you might be doing this level of instructional video on Pro-1, or K-2?
Thanks for the support !!! I really like Behringer, but I so far support no particular Brands. Because it is about music, not brands. I already make a K-2 ( Someone is not subbed ...). Just kidding, I released K-2 panel and then a second video about the patch bay. Same in depth format. Go to the channel and check them out.
Man thank you so much! Really. This is incredibly helpful. Same with the patchbay video. I was having a hard time as this is my first synth and there were not good tutorials for it. Thanks so much for your help. Thank you man. Thank you.
Hello, in my neutron what explains the trigger mode in the LFO does not happen when you touch the keys, the light does not turn on or do anything, I am referring to the trigger mode in the second option of the filter set to band pass, it does not activate it does not do nothing the light doesn't turn on I have also checked it in the program and when activating the trigger it remains silent without sound and does nothing, which is a problem for me because I cannot use that option, which is one of the ones that interests me the most due to the style of music I make. If you could give me an opinion it would be appreciated.
This is an amazing video! Every sentence is important and I learned much even in the first couple of minutes of the video. I’m curious what oscilloscope you use in the video- is it a virtual/ software scope? If so, how do you get it to show at the bottom left of the screen? Awesome tutorial- thanks so much for taking the time to educate us.
Fu** dude, great video!! Im using the Neutron for 1 year now and i didn't know about all this hidden features... looking forward the patch bay tutorial! Greetings from germany :)
I can only agree with everyone here that it's a great tutorial. One question though is when VCA Bias is up, what determines the pitch of the sustained sound?
Hello !! Your midi. the OSC's are constantly playing, so when toy hit a key, the OSC plays that frequency. Then you perceive you are playing a key because volume goes up when you press it and when you release it the sound goes OFF. This is the envelope, controlling and shaping the volume....but before the envelope, the sound is constant. So when you do less envelope or remove it from the signal the sound is constant, non stop.
Hi, your videos on this synth convinced me to buy one. Excellent work! thank you for your obvious commitment to excellence. Can you share the name of the o-scope and spectrum analyzer software you are using to display the wave forms? Cheers!
Hey, I kinda like it, is different. I have a lot of pedals so having something different is good for me. But, you can still disable the OD by patching it out.
If I got the extended OSC controls correctly, with this device I can have 2 additional LFOs with the OSCs running with knob control, right? How can I get the OSCs low frequency as CV control out of the Neutron? There is a dedicated (OUT) LFO for this CV. Is there also a patch (OUT) as source for other two modulations? Idea behind my question: Use 3 patch cables to modulate 3 different outside devices with OSC1, OSC2, LFO.
Hey !!! Exactly. On the patch bay you have OSC1 & 2 OUT, LFO & LFO uni out. You can use the OUT to send them to other gear...for example. A Minilogue XD, has only one LFO built int. But it has two CV IN's....I can go out of OSC1 & 2 from Neutron, connect it to the CV in of my Minilogue and now instead of having one LFO, I have three :) I've done this, of course....the Minilgue XD is a monster but only one LFO is not enough to make do a bit of experimentation. Still one of my favorite "do it almost all synths" out there. You can go through the Attenuators of Neutron to control what comes out a bit more. On Monday, I'll be releasing the PART 2 of Neutron, which is going to be an in depth guide to all IN's and OUT's of the patch bay. Oh, and you can use whatever OUT to external gear, using neutron like a central device
Since this is the best tutorial dor Neutron, i'm giving a try I need an advice I want to output my DAW audio into Neutron's audio input and then output the processed audio into my DAW again. How should l do? My interface is the umc204 HD
23:36 was always wondering why my recordings sounded low quality this explains it, I dont know how midi works but i thought that the output cable going from synth to audio interface was what carried the sound to your daw, (guessing that the usb sends midi info from computer to synth to interface) I have midi cables for connecting synths but sadly dont have a midi in on interface
Ohh you mean the USB ground loop. Yeah, it sucks, when recording use MIDI only....if not, if you live on "Mainstream" country you have anti-static or anti-ground loop USB cables. You can try onw of those, for example the Keystep 38 from Arturia when you use the out's at the back generates A LOT of noise, so it comes with one of this cables.
@48:00 LFO What am i doing wrong when my Neutron only shows the Paraphonic Button blinking when press and hold the KeySync Button? Is there another Shortcut on that im not aware of?
When you switch on LFO MIDI sync, that isn't 110 BPM, that's around 140. I can't sync the perfect tempo with the LFO with this method. Could you clarify how to use this function? Does it sync to 1/4, 1/8, 1/16? How to really sync accurately?
I bought a black overlay, so as to match the Neutron with the rest of my modular cabinet. Unfortunately, the overlay omits the knob graduation markings.
Amazing video in which I learn so much, thank you! You talk about the Neutron setup application at 1h24 of the video, I downloaded it (version 1.0.2) but when I install it I'm asked to search for neutron.exe ??? Any idea? Thanks a lot.
This is brilliant.hanks very much. One question: when setting note priority, how do I then save the setting? Everything remains flashing. If I click and hold Osc sync, it just reverts back. Thanks!
hmm, well it should be saved, at least until you turn it off....so, make really sure it's not working like it works on my video. Make sure the firmware is up to date,,,, if not, contact Behringer or get a replacement, but it sounds like a SW issue.
@@XNBeatsMusic Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry, what I mean is: I click Osc Sync and set the note priority as shown, and it all works fine, but then what do I do next to stop the osc sync flashing?
@@jezbutlervids Oh,, you just press and hold again. Pressing the SYNC is like accessing the config mode, so you get out of the config mode by pressing and holding again. And remember the one shot only works when key sync is ON. So if its flashing, it means you are on config mode, if its off or on you are outside the config mode.
@@XNBeatsMusic That's fantastic - thanks very much indeed. I was slightly confused as when I hold os sync to exit, the filter mode *appears* to change back, but actually, the changes are stored. Thanks also for the paraphonic priority tip... that has solved a real problem 🙂
@@jezbutlervids No problem !! Cool. Glad to help :) it's a great synth. To confirm changes I always use the companion app, it just lets you work faster.
Can I use the neutron vca and ENV2 for an external VCO? I tried patching with MI Braids (yes I know Braids has an internal VCA) and just get a constant sound. More than like I’m missing a step. I’ll post my connection in a little bit.
I've reloaded the 2.0.2 firmware and reset everything in the Neutron Windows app, and also set everything to the way you do it in the beginning of the video, but I still get no sound when I use my midi keyboard. The midi itself is recieved and the audio works but there still isn't much sound. There is some kind of setting that I'm doing wrong. Any ideas?
Does the Neutron automatically install drivers when you connect to a PC ? - I'm trying to install the firmware update 2.02 but it tells me there's no drivers detected. I've been running the Neutron for over a year on the original firmware that came installed on it.
@@XNBeatsMusic That was just awesome !! The hidden button features were a great help. Thank you very much!! its a pity the neutron app is only for mac and windows and no android/chrome os support which leaves me locked out 😂
Hello, almost pure modular analog. You have no midi implementation, so yeah pitch and sliders. So you will need to do the work manually, which is not a bad thing sometimes.
Hey !!...well, not in my case. If you bypass the Overdrive, you should not be getting any saturation. And going down all the way on the mix of the delay, it pretty much disables the delay.
Hey, hmm...i really don't know. It should be doing something. Triple check it, if not maybe contacting support or even returning the synth will be a good idea.
Hey !!!..... well yes and no. SYNC means that one OSC will be master and the other one SLAVE. With the Neutron, the OSC 2 is the slave. So, OSC 2 cannot do whatever it wants. On each cycle of the 1st OSC the OSC 2 will be forced to restart its cycle..... so that is why you cannot go out of tune, as soon as you move the pitch of the OSC 2, it restarts following the cycle of OSC 1. The thing is that, you don't hear the changes, because each cycle is super fast. But you hear the change in TIMBRE. And that is the whole point, if you use SYNC and both OSC'S are playing o the same key/frequency...you get nothing, an ugly phasing sound, but when you change the pitch, or you modulate the OSC 2 pitch, you get this SYNC sound, gritty, great for leads.
@@XNBeatsMusic So in sync mode, OSC 2 pitch control simply shortens (or lengthens) the phase? Cuts it off, forcing it to restart with OSC1. That's kind of interesting, are there other synths that do this? I would think you would get unexpected waveshaping or distortion. If I understand correctly. It would be cool to connect 2 oscilloscopes to each osc in sync mode and see how they behave, and compare with the combined signal.
@@jeffreyjbyron Sort of, yes...something like that, if you use an oscilloscope you can see the phase restarting on the OSC2.....it's actually pretty old, a lot of vintage synths have SYNC. If you use Bitwig you can with the grid see how it looks. No need to have an expensive oscilloscope.
Not really. Clipping is a way of distortion, let's say. You can clip with an overdrive pedal, what makes a difference is with what you are clipping. Depends on how you clip, it sound cool or it sound weird. When you hear Clipping is bad is in the digital domain, for example if you are making a track and your master bus is clipping. That is a no.... But if you have a track where you want to use it as a FX, you can clip, distort, destroy, downsample, you name it. It's a sound FX. But... clipping channels and master bus. That is a NO.
Liked & Sub'd. Found this video and the other one via the synthtopia site that embedded it. Anyway, I'll watch it here. I have embedding turned off on my videos :) Do you think it's a good idea or not? Anyway... I'm back to watching the video now :)
Not really. You can use the assign patch bay and control with the modwheel (cc). But you don't have the ability to control everything like you do on the deepmind or maybe a minilogue let's say.

Cheers!
Fuck yessss! I have one of these and all it dids is make a drone sound on and on. NOw I will master him!! Thanks XNB. Best guy!!!
Uff, Monday morning the part two comes out. You will love that one.
Great synth from Behringer. Overdrive is a little disapointing tho. Behringer dit it well in TD-3. Good that i have one. I can use it with Neutron.
Hey, I kinda like it, is different. I have a lot of pedals so having something different is good for me. But, you can still disable the OD by patching it out.
Thank you! this is an amazing tutorial!
Do you have a keyboard plugged into the synth? If so, how is it connected? Thank you very much.
Excellent video!!! THNKS!!!
Thanks!
Yeah !! Thanks Jones for the help :)
Excellent !
I owe you a beer. Or two. Awesome!!!
I don't do alcohol, but a good coffee works for me. And not that Starbucks crap, I mean really good Italian coffee. :) Thanks for the comment.
But it has two CV IN's....I can go out of OSC1 & 2 from Neutron, connect it to the CV in of my Minilogue and now instead of having one LFO, I have three :)
I've done this, of course....the Minilgue XD is a monster but only one LFO is not enough to make do a bit of experimentation.
Thank You! Most helpful.
Since this is the best tutorial dor Neutron, i'm giving a try
I need an advice
I want to output my DAW audio into Neutron's audio input and then output the processed audio into my DAW again.
Great tutorial! 👍😀
thanks a lot for you video, a really deep and helpful video to have!
I bought a black overlay, so as to match the Neutron with the rest of my modular cabinet. Unfortunately, the overlay omits the knob graduation markings.
How do you hook up the keyboard I'm a beginner to all of this please show me how to set it up
5:15 9:22 17:44 46:15 47:41
Did i miss any long hold submenu sections?
For some reason I feel like my ADSR envelopes are not working I try turning the attack and decays left and right and can’t hear a difference?
Thank you so much for this video and for your channel!!!
Happy to help! Thanks for the comment.
Amazing video in which I learn so much, thank you!
You talk about the Neutron setup application at 1h24 of the video, I downloaded it (version 1.0.2) but when I install it I'm asked to search for neutron.exe ??? Any idea? Thanks a lot.
Great video, great synth.
Thanks !! Glad you liked it :)
Excellent
Awesome video thank you
This is brilliant.hanks very much.
Any ideas?
hmm, could be a lot of things. Try to bypass the overdrive section or make sure the overdrive level and drive knobs are not too low.
Does the Neutron automatically install drivers when you connect to a PC ? - I'm trying to install the firmware update 2.02 but it tells me there's no drivers detected. I've been running the Neutron for over a year on the original firmware that came installed on it.
How do u get the dual-oscillator oscilloscope 😅??
Спасибо, мужик!❤
Can I use this with my Roland dx-10 multitimbral synth(it has midi out, I think it will work)???
Thanks 🙏🙏🙏🙏 will have to cancel weekend for this 😂
Like I've told you before, you will ...LOVE..the next one about neutron :)
@@XNBeatsMusic That was just awesome !! The hidden button features were a great help. Thank you very much!! its a pity the neutron app is only for mac and windows and no android/chrome os support which leaves me locked out 😂
@@saorcid5326 Oh, the synth is pretty pretty good without the app still.
@@XNBeatsMusic yes it very much is a modular bargain 💥
@@saorcid5326 haha, it really is. All the behringer haters don't know what they are missing.
Bonjour et merci! Comment peut il jouer ce Neutron alors que je ne vois pas le séquenceur connecté ?!!!!! merci pour la réponse !!!!
Do these work with standard MIDI controllers, and if so, how many parameters can be affected with it? Is it just notes and no pitch slider wheels?
Hello, almost pure modular analog. You have no midi implementation, so yeah pitch and sliders. So you will need to do the work manually, which is not a bad thing sometimes.
Thank You :)
One more thing: using the delay with low cutoff produces a lot of distortion. Is this correct? I'm bypassing the OD, and resonance is fairly low.
Hey !!...well, not in my case. If you bypass the Overdrive, you should not be getting any saturation. And going down all the way on the mix of the delay, it pretty much disables the delay.
Midi does not clock sync. It only controls it's relative clock.
How do you actually clock sync?
Hi! Tell me pls why when I press and hold OSC SYNC, mode do not start blinking? Also when I press and hold' mod' nothing happens
Hey, hmm...i really don't know. It should be doing something. Triple check it, if not maybe contacting support or even returning the synth will be a good idea.
Same
I solved it by downloading the latest firmware from Behringer (2.0.2)!
Idk why there was this problem since I bought the Neutron second-handed only a month ago, but an update can fix the bugs
@@emiliogonella broooo thank you so much!
I can’t hold the freq mode button and key trek. Thank for lesson very deep.
Great video
Thanks, took a lot of time hahaa. Glad you like it.
When in sync mode, does the osc 2 tune control become a phase control?
@@jeffreyjbyron The magic happends when you really start to modulate the tune of the 2nd OSC.....MonoPoly has it OBx, 30 years synths.
Nice!
excelent
Thanks !!
Isn't clipping dangerous?
That is a NO.
capo 🤘
How to tune the osc after openeing it?
sex a lot for the guide !!
really well explained..
it helped me a lot :)
Hahah, sex a lot. That's a good one. Thanks for the wishes and the comment. If you can like and subscribe, that really helps the channel.
Liked & Sub'd. Found this video and the other one via the synthtopia site that embedded it. Anyway, I'll watch it here. I have embedding turned off on my videos :) Do you think it's a good idea or not? Anyway... I'm back to watching the video now :)
Annotation: you can bypass the delay
Does it accept midi cc?
Not really. You can use the assign patch bay and control with the modwheel (cc). But you don't have the ability to control everything like you do on the deepmind or maybe a minilogue let's say.
