I just installed this on my 2014 Corolla and it went pretty much as shown. The only thing that wasn't too clear was the air bag release clips. I didn't really know what I was looking for when I looked into those access holes and the release pin is pretty tiny, but I figured it out and the rest was easy. The other thing was that the cruise switch came with 2 wire pig tails - the connector and the ground clip. The instructions said the ground clip would not be needed if the horn ground was already present. I guess it was present as part of the air bag assembly but that wasn't obvious. I also didn't know exactly what to do with this stray ground wire so I tucked it behind the steering wheel frame, hoping it wouldn't interfere with any other functions. It seems to be working fine after a test drive. In any case - it was $500 to have the dealer do this and I did it for less than $200 and about 20 minutes of time. Thanks, Rostra.
It is the base model L, and yes, our dealer wanted $500 also. So do this and save a few hundred. Just note that the most difficult part for me was finding the release pins for the airbag. The video says to use a torx tool, but I'd use one almost large enough to fill the access hole so it will find and push the pin better. With a small one it can work, but you kind of have to look into the hole as you do it, to make sure the torx screwdriver makes contact the the coat hanger sized release pin. That's tough to do in those holes, but doable. You can use any cylindrical tool with a flat end for probably better results (like an 1/8" socket wrench extension, if it'll fit, or something like it), as long the the circumference is almost as large as the opening but not larger, of course.
andrew buffalino These kits fits about 15 different Toyota models. We put the contents in the box that allow you to install on any of these vehicles. Some of the parts are not necessary for all applications and you can simply discard them when you are done, or keep them for other projects. Thanks!
I LOVE the faster Jack-Rabbit like starts from the stoplight that the 4-speed Automatic gives in the 'L' version of the Corolla, compared to the slower off-the-line starts that the CVT automatic Corolla models have in the LE and other grades, so I want to buy the 'L' model. However, it does not come with cruise control so I have to add it myself on my own. Toyota dealers WILL NOT install a cruise control stalk on an 'L' model, but they will replace a cruise stalk on an LE model for some odd reason? I even offered to pay the dealership $2,000 if they would do it for me, and they refused.
I went to 3 Toyota dealerships here in Southern Ontario Canada, and at each one I talked to the parts manager, a mechanic, and a salesman, and every person I talked to told me that it is not possible to install a cruise control on the base model Corolla, it has to be ordered from the factory with a cruise control. I know that's a bunch of lies since this video shows it's a lie what they tell everyone. Don't bother asking a dealership, they all tell lies and say "IT'S NOT POSSIBLE."
I can't find the release clips on the two sides. Been digging with a screwdriver for an hour with no luck. The bottom part of the airbag cover snaps out quickly but the sides are just stuck. Any hint?
I have a 2007 Toyota Yaris, will it be as simple as this video makes it seem to install the cruise control unit? That is, only taking the steering wheel apart and plugging in the cruise control unit? No running of wires to different areas of the car? Thanks.
My steering wheel looks almost exactly the same in my Auris II 1.6 (2016), and Thanks to You it was easy to open it and to connect the cruise control, but it doesn't work in my car, maybe i should connect sth like one more wire to the ground, but i don't know how... pls help me:-)
Hi!! I have a Corolla XEi 2011 M/T made in Brazil (VIN 9BRBU48E8C4704666) and I live in Argentina... I've already read the instructions in your web page, and I know people that try to install the cruise contol following these steps too, but the cruise crontol doesn't work yet... The Rostra's 250-1836 cruise needs another extra item in the clutch pedal or another connection in ECU??? Please help us!! thanks!!
Own a Toyota and need a cruise control system? Check out the install of Rostra's 250-1836 cruise in a 2014 Toyota Corolla, and then visit our website a www.rostra.com to see if it fits your car today! ruclips.net/video/vLyRH5eSpps/видео.html #2014Corolla #2014Tacoma
Just installed this on a 2015 Corolla L. Pretty easy. It was hard to identify the airbag disconnects with the awkward steering wheel angles and it being difficult to shine a light into. But the best I could describe them as thick, metal, and paperclip like. Almost like a paperclip that has been straightened out. And use a flathead to press them down. Doesn't take much effort either and they pop right out.
slapyomumsillyb4ido RostraPC Is it really that simple? I just looked at the install manual on the website and it looks a lot more complicated than the video portrays. I have a 2015 Corolla L (manual)
Would this work on Toyota Vitz (yaris) 1.0? I guess that the speedometer does not have a cruise signal in it. And the Vitz (yaris) is a Japanese assembled 2015 model.
+optimistichorizon You can absolutely use this system for the M/T Corolla. The vehicle is already equipped with a clutch pedal sensor from the factory and will disengage the cruise control automatically.
RostraPC Sweet! Thanks for the reply. I decided to buy my girlfriend a S Plus Manual instead of the base. We got an insanely low deal on a new 2016 model. Otherwise this would have saved me $500 dollars for a dealer installation.
I recently purchased Toyota Fortuner GX2, 2015 Model. There is no cruise system installed, is there any possibility to install this system there. and what is the procedure.
can i install control cruise in toyota auris I 2012 1.6vvti or in hybrid 2011? its the same kit? i need to add some extra sensor on gearbox or brake pedal?
Quick question, is this plug and play?. there is no soldering or rewiring required? just plug the cruise control. Any fuse require to be added? thank you in advance.
+RostraPC Thank you, did in a hour from the time i disconnected the battery till the test drive. It took me a while as I had to rewire the ground cable. Other than that, it works! Thanks!
+RostraPC I just installed a similar kit .in my corolla 2016 European version 1.6(turkey version) its working but the light of cruise not appear in dashboard ! Any solutions for this issue.
All you will need is Rostra's part number 250-1836 to add cruise control to a Tacoma. It includes the control switch and wire leads for use when a vehicle is not pre-wired for cruise control.
+Andrew Whitfield It's hard to tell if a vehicle is completely pre-wired until you have the control switch in place and see the cruise control engagement light come on on the dashboard. But if it's not pre-wired, our part number 250-1836 includes all of the necessary connectors to make it work.
Hello. I have a Toyota Avensis SDN Prestige (ACC) 1.6L M/T 5 speed, model 2007.. Can I Add-on Cruise Control on my Avensis like your Corolla? Any reply it'll be pleasure. Thank you.
hi would this work on the 2015 Toyota Corolla in Philippines? its Thai assembled though.... everything looks same except our Gage Cluster has an LCD screen (rectangular - upright) smacked right in the middle..... somebody said its also been cut from Clock Spring to ECU, can anyone confirm that?
dieselpwr70 have you fixed this already? ... installed on my 1.6V but doesn't work plug n play... Darn! Need to re-wire from ECU... Toyota dealers can't help.
vatochingon209 For the '99 Tacoma, you would need to use the Global Cruise universal cruise control system that we offer because your throttle is not electronic but rather cable-operated. Take a look at that system at this link and email any questions you might have to info@rostra.com. www.rostra.com/universal-aftermarket-cruise-control-by-rostra.php
Correction its a 2015 L Corolla, I checked it does have the plugin spot, would all I have to do install is the cruise control bit like in the video and would it work? I have an automatic transmission
just had my tacoma body dropped and was told that the new placement of the cruise control module (?) would put it beyond the reach of the current cable or cables. any idea about finding custom cables or using cables from another vehicle application? thanks.
Hello Rostra. Nice videos, congrats. I'm from Brazil and I have a Corolla 2018 that came without the cruise control. How can I check if the car came already prepared (wired) to connect the cruise control switch? If my Corolla came not wired, is it possible to do it? I saw this video from you but I think it's a Prius and not a Corolla, so I'm not sure if the procedure will be the same. ruclips.net/video/Kgxh_DGzxmI/видео.html Thanks in advance.

David Theriault How do you stop the steering wheel from locking up?
Works great in Toyota Yaris 1.33 2016 year. I install this yesterday :)

Not calling you out just genuinely intrigued.

Was this for a Corolla L? Is it just a plug and play?
andrew buffalino Correct! The installation is a very straight-forward process.

is it necessary to disconnect the car negative battery connection during installation? will the air bag explode mid way?
Can you do this with a manual transmission Corolla? There would be an additional switch to disconnect the cruise from the clutch pedal.
+optimistichorizon You can absolutely use this system for the M/T Corolla. The vehicle is already equipped with a clutch pedal sensor from the factory and will disengage the cruise control automatically.

Does it work on a Toyota Urban Cruiser (Toyota Ist 2º generation/ Scion XD) 1.4 D MY 2009?
how different would this be on a manual trans. Tacoma? ive seen write ups, but no comprehensive video
I have a base model 2008 Tacoma. What would I need to install cruise on it?
