    a real pleasure to watch someone smartly scratch their way back up...always keeping at least a final to the beach, smooth, calm turns, etc...kudos, john sillero :-)

      Thanks John, I appreciate it. Always made sure I would have an easy final to the beach. Didn’t feel like going for a swim haha

    Your videos keep me inspired. Just spent two whole days running 50 - 100m down a slight slope into wind and not actually flying. No idea wtf it was supposed to achieve. If you are still running 50m later and are not airborne then you’ve done something wrong. I really like the way you instructor got you dune gooning on day two. If Aus wasn’t on the other side of the world I’d book in with your instructor.

      Believe it or not. It's good that you spent that time ground handling. People don't do it enough. You have years of flying ahead of you.
      I wouldn't be where I am now if I didn't do days of ground handling on the coast doing top landings/touch and goes, bombing out on the beach and having to carry the glider around on the shoulders in strong winds, to get back up ontop of dunes and get back up in the air.
      Hang gliding is easy when you're up and flying going back and forth but the pilots that stand out have great ground handling skills and that's exactly what you're learning.
      Go in with the mindset of soaking up every bit of information, even if you're feet don't get up into the air. What you are learning is the most crucial part of flying.

    When you initially crossed the bay, couldn't you have dropped onto that next hill and soared up that? Doesn't it work? It looked like you turned back just before it would have started working.

      Hey Darren!
      Well thats kind of what I was thinking on my way over and I was getting close BUT the wind was 45’ off that cliff side and it being a new location I haven’t flown before I didn’t want to push it haha

      I don’t rather the original sound of the gopro being blasted with wind. The GoPro literally went flat on the final to landing 😆 I have someone else who filmed the landing on their phone, which I am most likely going to get as I have the full video of my Stanwell flight to post still.

    Awesome video mate! 🤙
    I’ve been weighing up paragliding VS hang gliding big time but it looks like the Stanwell hang gliding scene is well and truly alive.
    I’ve got the vehicle, time and proximity to this spot in particular as well as background in slope soaring/RC to make it quite doable. Do you have any recommendations or advice for someone starting out / considering?
    Cheers, Ed

    • @TheCameronEvans
      @TheCameronEvans  3 года назад +2

      Thank you for your comment.
      I guess that decision is up to you. For me I was thinking paragliding at some stage because it may have been an easy transition in a way from kiteboarding for 8 yrs but it has always been hang gliding for me.
      I also was super into RC slope soaring and it did help an incredible amount to understand wind, landing, locations etc.
      Something I recommend is simply get obsessed with the sport you choose, learn everything you can, read books, blogs, learn the weather, watch every video you can on the sport, speak to other pilots, get started with a course and learn safely 👌🏼
      Tony the Hang glider instructor in Sydney I have heard is fantastic and can highly recommend Tony Barton at AirSports Newcastle as that is who I did my course with.
      I have another video on my channel of a full documentary of my hang gliding course with AirSports Newcastle.
      Keep me updated, i would like to hear your journey and what you go with 😁👍🏼

      @@TheCameronEvans thanks for quick reply mate, admittedly I skimmed through the documentary earlier today and saw the combat/slope wing photo and your previous experience with it. I can imagine that helps a lot in predicting the gliders movements.
      I’ve got experience sailing and a couple of other hobbies but I’m already obsessively researching this! So many massive pros and cons to think about.
      From what I understand, hang gliding is smaller than paragliding but In your experience is there much of community/events in the Australian hang gliding world or do you mostly fly alone?

    • @TheCameronEvans
      @TheCameronEvans  3 года назад +2

      @@TreasureAdventure The only con I have is yes paragliding is more convenient in a way it’s just a back pack but it is worth every minute of moving a hang glider around storage, roof racks, carrying etc.
      The movement and freedom of hang gliding in the air, pitch control is another thing, and wind strengths is another big pro with hang gliders much bigger range of flying conditions. When it is super light though you may get out on a paraglider that you may not get out on a hang glider.
      Last week was state titles for hang gliding and was a great turn out. I couldn’t make it though. The community for hang gliding is amazing as it is a smaller group of people and you get to know one another and it has created great friendships although I can say there are a handful of paragliders I do like to have a yarn to for sure.
      I have never flown alone but even if I did I wouldn’t mind either. Someone you should get in touch with is Paul in Sydney. RUclips channel is ‘JustHangIn’ he uploads heaps of videos and super humble fella too!
