Thanks for all the information! I just filled out the form on your site to have a timber basis done on my newly acquired 65 acres in Michigan.

I had a forestry report done two year ago that list the trees and the DBH size for the trees. It was part of a plan for EQUIP, can I use that when I finally sell timber?

Was it done at the time of purchase and was it appraised?

What if you have had the harvest done but they gave you documentation of what they harvested? I am in Michigan.

Unfortunately the IRS does not allow for a back cruise after a harvest is done.

Let's hypothetically say, some john and Jane Doe, have 30 acres of red cedar, how much could they make by selling straight to a Funiture maker, instead of going through the middleman.

Furniture makers do not buy raw logs, they buy processed lumber.

Consider installing a Northern Saw-Whet Owl or Screech Owl nest box. Owls eat rodents which host ticks. Due to Forestry practices there are not enough quality nesting cavities for these important rodent eating Owls to successfully hatch out chicks. Owls will eat rodents if you provide the housing. Reduce the Deer mice and White-footed Forest mice which carry parasites and spread disease with artificial nesting boxes.
