Voyager 2 encountered Neptune twelve years after its launch, and three years after leaving Uranus.
PBS broadcast the images being received, along with multiple guests. One of those guests was George Tirebiter (for Firesign Theatre fans).
I had to do some editing to get beyond copyright claims. And, in the process, I learned that even Covers of copyrighted music can be an issue.
Even recorded at EP on VHS (explaining the poor quality) the tape ran out, and this recording ended prematurely. I regret that, but I hope someone enjoys it anyway.
P.S. Honestly, I don't know how I managed to get more than 14 minutes of dead space at the end of this video. I could re-up it. Is that necessary? Speak up if you think so. Otherwise, I'll leave it.

Thanks for sharing this. I remember that night. I was 17 years old, living in my first apartment and working nights at Burger King, but I had my VCR set to record PBS for as long as possible, and after I got home, I stayed up pretty late watching this. It was a week after my grandfather died and not long before the Berlin Wall fell. The one piece of music I can still clearly remember from the broadcast was _Blue Bell Knoll_ by the Cocteau Twins, which played over an animation of a flyover of the moon Miranda, but I didn't find out the name of the song or the group until just last year, 33 years after the broadcast. I had that VHS tape for a long time before it eventually got lost in a move. Thanks for this blast from the past. Peace.

Doing the rough math, it seems you were born about the time I graduated from HS. I know how it goes with VHS tapes getting lost. I used to be obscessive about documenting things like this and had hundreds of tapes, most of which never got digitized.
One problem with documenting something this long is recording at EP, which as you know, doesn't preserve the best quality.
I don't see anything in your comment that would've caused it to be held for review, but it was for some reason. And, I didn't notice it until 9 days after you posted. Sorry about that.
      Thanks for watching and commenting.
