Good news youve got the finance sorted 😊. Getting all the big jobs done first will make a big difference to getting all the cosmetic stuff done. And, you can move in, which will also help 😅. Hope you can get builder in place and start moving forwards. 😊
Congratulations you can proceed. The main things to do are fix the structural issues inside and out, plumbing & electrics then if you have any dollars left start the rest. Its amazing how fast your money goes with these big ticket items. It will be exciting and it will be fun al be it, hard yakka (work) .
😊Aisling.i think if you can get a builder to do all the work on your cottage,it should work out cheaper, than bringing in different tradesmen for heating, plumbing, and electrical work, plus your new roof. Compare the different prices to see which is best.regards James
Hi James! You’re totally right, it would be a lot easier (and maybe cheaper) to get it all in one! I’ve my fingers and toes crossed that a builder who was out to me a month or two ago and do the job - he’s worked on the irish homesteaders and the camper vibes house and really seems to know his stuff so I’m hoping he’ll be able to take on my project if time and funds allow 🤞🤞🤞
I did this when I renovated my house. The builder had people on his team to do jobs he couldn't do, although he did a lot of small electrical and plumbing jobs. Just be sure you check out the builder thoroughly, Aisling, not all of them are good builders. But, you already had someone to look at jobs in your house, walls, etc, so maybe he can help?
Your amazing I know how much work it takes to care for a building especially an older one. Doing it in stages is a great idea. Love to the fur children and I will keep watching and enjoying your videos. It will get better and easier over time. Be safe!
Hi Aisling! Thank you for sharing the good news! I am so excited for you! Now things will really begin to change. Once the basic jobs are done, you can finally move into your new home! It will be exciting to see the changes. I wish you the best of luck! Love to the girlies Sherry ❤❤🇨🇦
Thank you so much! Really feels like we’re moving now! Fingers crossed for me grant news this week! If not I’ll have to chase them again which I hate to do!
Thank you! It’s brill to have the loan sorted! Fingers crossed news on the grant this week now! And poor Morri is having a horribly hard time, it’s really getting quite bad for her, my poor mom ended up sleeping in the couch with her last night to try comfort her when I was away
That's fantastic that you got the loan, full steam ahead once you hear from the grant. Must be such a weight off your shoulders knowing the money is available to do the necessary works. Congrats and furriest hugs to you, Morri and Bainne, oh and Rosie too of course. ❤
Absolutely fantastic news Aisling! Well done, full steam ahead🤗 The really exciting bit of the renovation is about to start, so the very best of luck, and enjoy this great, and sometimes frustrating, time!😁💕
Thank you so much I really appreciate it ❤️ fingers and toes crossed some grant news this week I’m following up again today, and then we’ll be full steam ahead!
Ashling that’s fabulous news. I wish I could give you a great big hug. I’m so happy for you. Life is starting to move forward . Lots of love from California
Hello to Cali! Do send me some warmth and sun it’s so cold here now! Thank you so much, I’m SO happy, and honestly just relieved that the money has come through so I’m ready to go once grant approval comes! Love and hugs from me and the girls thank you for all your support ❤️❤️❤️
Fantastic news! That’s great about bank loan. I didn’t realise that you had to pay first THEN get reimbursed by the grant. What if you couldn’t get a loan or afford to do that? 😮 seems a little back the front. Anyway I’m excited for you to at least move ahead with some essential work on the cottage. Hooray 🥳 And yes, get your structural and essential services sorted first, lots of time for cosmetic improvements as time goes on is the way to go. Big hugs to you girls xx 🏡💚😘
Big hugs to you back ❤️ that’s the biggest problem with the grant is that you’re paid back at the end, a lot of people are just out of luck if they don’t have the savings (honestly who had that much cash lying around lol) and you can’t get a loan, definitely feeling lucky I was able to secure the funds! On to the next step now 🎉❤️
I think making a list of things per room, could be very helpful for a budget, with a schedule per year, and it’s hard for me to sometimes understand your expectations because of the direction, and you say we about yourself all the time, it applies more people involved, and not your pets.
I think it’s personal preference on saying we to include the pets or not and I prefer to include them in it lol so that won’t change, and don’t worry I have an engineer and builder helping me with the plans so it won’t get confusing :)
Great news! So now you are definitely ready when you get the "go" from the council! Keep your finger on the speed dial to get those workers in! You should be proud of yourself for accomplishing all that have so far! Take care
Thank you so much! And it’s brilliant to get the loan sorted so like you said ready to go the minute the council give the thumbs up!! Delighted to make a step forward! ❤️
@@morrigans_cottage Ahhh, I'm old and clearly not hip, so the word "brill" has me confused. English dictionary says it's a European flatfish, ugh. So I just checked urban dictionary - so it's short for "brilliant", haha, oh, news to me. I'll give it a try - Your channel is BRILL. How did I do?

Congratulations Aisling & for the full $50k. That’s got to feel good. Maybe you can throw in funding more stable lawn machinery 4 acres is a lot to maintain as you know much better than me. Why the fireworks? Our beagle Kelly who died from cancer a year ago March was petrified of fireworks. She wouldn’t bark. She just shook non stop & tried to get to our 2nd floor. I’m so happy for you & hopefully you’ve already heard from the inspector or whomever you are expecting. Take care ✌️🍁🍂🤎🧡💛
Oh I’m so sorry you lost Kelly, it’s so hard losing furbabies, I can’t even think about anything happening to Morri or Bonnie with out bawling crying! Morri is the same as Kelly was, shaking, panting, trying to dig under anything she can to escape the noise, she is on a relaxant but it doesn’t seem to be helping much… if it was just one night of fireworks she’d survive but the 6 weeks of fireworks every night kills me seeing her so upset :( Hope you’re doing well and recovering even better today ❤️❤️

Did you already price out what you want to get done? It just sounds like a lot for the money you have.the woodstove and pipe work would be my first thing. That way, you guys can stay warm. Also, the electric so you can run dehumidifiers. You don't need any more mold issues as they are deadly.if you can get all that done for 50, 000, then that's a great deal. That wouldn't happen in America where price gouging is common. Anyway, enough of that, i know you're a big girl and very capable. Great news. You are overdue for some.💚
So I have the engineer and builder working on the costs, but that’s a rough idea on what it’ll be, it doesn’t include any painting or decorating, flooring or anything like that that’ll all be done by me at some point when I save money but by bit ❤️
So you already own a house? And you're going to sell the house you're talking in right now? And are you going to live out in the country permanently or drive to work everyday? I'm just a little confused right now lol much love from Oklahoma USA Jackie 🇺🇸💖 PS now you can hire some work to be done?
Hi Jackie! Hope you’re keeping well ❤️ the house I’m talking in is my parents house :) I only only the broken down one in the country! Just have to wait for grant approval now and then I’ll be able to hire someone to start the work 🙏
I think its bit misleading when they advertise the grant and it turns out you actually need to put out the money first. I mean who has 50k to renovate the house and then maybe get some of it back.
Yeah it’s definitely the biggest problem with the grant, I for sure did not have the funds available in savings so it’s so lucky the bank was willing to help, but I know a lot of people haven’t been able to secure loans so it makes the grant almost redundant 🫠
@morrigans_cottage I really hope they approve the grant for you so you can pay off some of that loan. No-one who has money for renovation applies for a grant, no-one who has money buys 200 yo house that is falling apart. And yet city council are taking their sweet time like you have all the time in the world. Those grants were never introduced to accually help people, they are just a lure to make ppl buy those abandoned, derelict structures ireland is riddled with, as there's nothing to do with them. And God forbid government would buy some of them up and accually renovated them for social housing etc. Anyway sorry bit ranty here because I'm accually on a verge of homelessness, struggling to pay rent each month and not ever being able to afford to buy a house thst isn't falling g apart
