This is a Tavares song! The Bee Gees wrote several songs for the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack. One of those songs was recorded by Tavares for the soundtrack as well. The version by Tavares was released by the record company and it was a hit on the Soul, Pop and Disco Charts. When the record company decided to release the version by The Bee Gees while the version by Tavares was still making it up the charts, The Bee Gees called the management and told them to stop their release so the version by Tavares could get maximum sales. The Bee Gees had a lot of heart to pull what easily could have been their next #1 hit from the soundtrack! It remained unreleased as a single.

The Bee Gee's actually wrote it FOR Tavares in mind to record, but they did go on to record it themselves, too, later. Plus, it was used in the movie. MANY of the songs they wrote were started out with, "Let's write _____'s next #1 hit." And Barry found his falsetto voice, that he uses in this song, when he did "Nights on Broadway".
Michael Jackson and Barry Gibb recorded a song together called "In His Name". Barry's son, Michael, is named for MJ, and MJ was his Godfather.

Bee Gees gave Yvonne Elliman their song "If I Can't Have You" to sing, which charted #1 and is part of the Saturday Night Fever score. They also gave Samantha Sang "Emotion" which went to #1 in the charts, which later was covered by Destiny's Child. Bee Gees (mainly Barry Gibb) produced Diana Ross' album Eaten Alive which contained a song with same title (Michael Jackson collaborated with the Bee Gees) The number that was the single from that album is "Chain Reaction" by the Bee Gees in the style of Ross's Supremes records. Then in the same decade that Barry produced albums and wrote songs for Streisand and Ross-- Barry and his Brothers wrote and produced "Islands in the Stream" for Kenny Rogers and Dolly. .. The best-selling song of all time in Country Western history. Barry produced Roger's album Eyes That See in the Dark, and wrote songs for it besides its single "Islands". Then, of course, there is Celine and "Immortality." Barry has won Grammy Producer awards, as well as for a handful of top-charting single for other artists, including the youngest sibling Andy Gibb, who was a very good songwriter on his own.
Oh, and Barry wrote and suggested Frankie Valli sing the title song to the movie "Grease" which went to #1. Check out Nina Simone's , as well as Janis Joplin's, cover of the Bee Gees' "To Love Somebody" . Also Elvis covered Barry's "Words" in his Vegas concerts-- He loved that song!

The Bee Gees wrote it, so they knew exactly how it should sound to make everyone want to love it. Their talent for music, just incredible, writing, singing, and playing various instruments too. They worked with so many other artists. If you look for all the covers, you'll have a long list, huge. People have been recording their music since they were kids and just starting out. Please play more of their music.

This song was a hit for The Bee Gees and Tavares at about the same time. That just show how great a song this is when it can be played on the radio by 2 different groups and people still can't get enough of it.

This song was written by the Bee Gees 1977 for the movie Saturday Night Fever. They recorded their own version, but also had Tavares do it. Both versions were used in the movie and on the soundtrack, but the Tavares version was released as a single, peaking at #32 in America on May 6, 1978, the same week "Night Fever," another Bee Gees song from the film, was at #1. Tavares were backstage at a Madison Square Garden show when the Bee Gees asked them to record the song.

The only reactors that I listen to are those that play a lot of Bee Gees. Just because they’re my all-time favorite and I can’t explain what the music does to me. It does something to my soul and someone that has struggled with depression and anxiety, listening to them cures me in every way I’m just in all of their talent. They are not only wonderful musicians and songwriters, but they’re good human beings too which makes it better for me.

Most of what the BeeGees write and sing is pretty great! Their influence is found in so many artist’s music, including Michael! If you haven’t listened to Nights on Broadway, it’s really good and Barry uses more of a baritone register. Also the song he discovered his falsetto- although I think Maurice sings falsetto in the live version which is great!

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the BeeGees wrote more than 1,000 songs that charted. But sometimes they could tell that their own performed version could be improved upon... Also at one time I think they had become so dominant in the Pop charts that listeners were getting a little tired of their music always playing on the radio - maybe?

If you do your homework, the brothers had most of the songs already written before Robert Stigwood approached them for SNF. They gave this song to Tavares, but, there's was the song they danced to on SNF. THEY DIDN'T RELEASE IT,HELL, THEY didn't have to everyone bought the sound track. They where afraid of over exposure, which did happen. They had 5 songs on the top 10. LOVE THE BEE GEES!
