Something struck me about the mag release. Since inertia releases the mag. The mag release is similar to a trigger. Glock uses a drop safety in their triggers to prevent it going off when dropped. Couldn't that same principle be used on a mag release? Might be easier than balancing spring tension. Just a thought.
Yea that make sense when you got 10 problems change a design to add another problem before you figure out fixes to other issue.. your not wrong but you have to fix basic issues as you go along before you make changes to system it’s just a process, that’s why most products take years to bring new product to market it’s just not normally seen step by step in RUclips keep at it Brandon you’ll get it

Some people don't understand the reason it's called a toolroom prototype or proof of concept gun. You work out the kinks on it, it doesn't have to look pretty, it just has to function reliably and not detonate! The skill to get a prototype working this quickly is insane, and you have to admire the dedication you and your team have. I can't wait to see more on the development of this beauty.
I often find it so interesting how many people just don't understand R&D. It takes time to find out what works and what breaks after so much use. I Love what you are doing. Once the recipe for a working proto is mapped out then the true beauty can come out. Keep it up
It didn't explode in a spectacular fireball, that's actually what I expected ._.) Jokes aside, awesome to see it getting ready step by step, this is such a unique project and I'm happy brandon shares everything with us about the project ^^
Honestly, I don't care much about when this thing is commercially ready (though I'll definitely be buying one when it is). I really just enjoy getting to see the BTS of how the process goes, how does troubleshooting work, hearing why different decisions are made. Designing such a complicated gun is fascinating. Thank you for sticking through such an arduous process and dealing with the "where .50" people to bring us along for the ride. Can't wait to see where these findings lead! #akgnotificationsquad
I don't get the people who are like "Oh there's no way this or that will work" like sure you could say "oh that single recoil spring system looks like it could take some extra beef, I ain't sure about it" but like, do they not get that this man low-key runs a gun workshop. He may not know everything perfectly, but he's gotta be somewhere in the right neighborhood with his expectations, definitely more precise than the average Joe from internet who never even held a gun, let alone took it apart.
Yeah, i cant really speak to the noobs on the internet, but that single recoil spring does weird me out, i hate how it bends in the back. Just from a pure physics perspective, if its got enough vertical play to bend out of the axis of movement, it means that some of the force is getting redistributed to an angle that the rods and springs arent strong in, so i can tell that given enough time something is going to go wrong there. Ultimately, im surprised the single recoil spring isnt *bigger* but, im sure they did the math to see if the spring was strong enough to move the block before they finalized the design there.
@Eric Nunya I like how you ignore the efforts - very public efforts - by anti-intelectuals trying to spread the disease as far as possible and refusing to follow the steps needed to stop the spread. Pull your head out of the pig trough
@Eric Nunya lot more than one person there. BLM folk at least get vaccinated and don't try and pass laws preventing businesses from mandating masks. That's real small government, right? Mandating what private businesses are and are not allowed to do?
As someone working toward my Master Gunsmith certification, watching your design process and testing is SO COOL. the future of the gun industry is in good hands. I'll buy one, once they're in production!
deathrocks, literally none of us will be able to buy it even if it releases, only like 2 percent of subscribers he has will be able to buy it if it releases
Kind of surprised that people think that this is is what the gun will look like as a finished product. The guns is still getting prototyped, I'm not expecting to see a finished rifle for a few more years. Shit's dangerous people, you can't just fist fuck a .50 BMG into a gun and call it good.
Well, I've seen some mexican dudes, shoving a 50 BMG into a double barreled shotgun and doing shenanigans with it (also with terrible safety protocols, but hey, more darwin award nominees for Brandon), so, I'm not not so sure that you can't shove 50 BMG into anything.
I am working on a custom nerf blaster from scratch. I know how hard it is to get anything working. You should be very proud of yourself. You and the Team.
All the arm chair engineers, you can’t do that, it’ll never work, it’s ugly. Never underestimate the bleeting whininess of ignorant people on the interwebs, the “I’ve never fired a gun before”, but have done extensive research on Wikipedia about how your doing it wrong!
I actually really enjoy all of this "nerd crap". I have the mind of an engineer and appreciate the challenges (as long and as time consuming as they are). I had several hands on engineering classes and loved it. I just really suck at math, like really suck, and it killed me in it. But keep it up Brandon, I'll be here. Don't rush yourself. It would be cool to see a finished AK 50 someday and you physically present and able to hold it.
Ya the prototype looks like a girl you'd bring home after last call but it's a passion project. Time lines on this project should be meaningless. When it's done it's done. Stay safe-ish and have fun.

Thanks a bunch for getting into the nitty-gritty of prototyping. This kind of practical engineering with all of its successes and failures really brings home all the work that goes into all the cool toys that we love so much. Keep up the great work.
The year is 2026. Brandon Herrara released the AK 50, and fanboys everywhere wept for joy. Then Century Arms came, and made their own version. They called it the AK2025. People bought it because it was inexpensive. Nobody could believe the sub-$5000 price tag on a semi auto .50. But that's just it, isn't it? If the deal is too good to be true, it usually isn't. At first, everyone just thought gun reviewers happened to be taking breaks at similar times. Then the news articles came in. Then the suicide bombers started.
Macho man man stuff aside, I want to say I appreciate you being so fucking careful with the prototyping of this. I can see the pain in you after Scott's accident, having had a major affect on you and impressing safety around dangerous over pressure situations. The proto looks great, fuck the kids who wanna see cod gun ak-50. The proto is the biggest step to having a finished product. So long as you work out the safety side of it and get the fulfilment you want out of the project, I'll keep coming back to watch :D Much love man, have a good one!
It's really awesome to be right there understanding what you are working with and trying to do on the 50! Unfortunately for Scott I believe he is a buffer on your project! It totally threw the safety and respect for this time-consuming problem into real life! Now we all understand that even a tried and successful rifle explode let alone a experimental prototype! You might be the AK guy but you are red white and blue true American ingenuity! I know it's probably by accident! But your descriptive interpretation of what you're doing on the gun is awesome to me I am visually impaired now and have very little site so I can't see a lot of the parts you're working with but you explain them so well I understand!
When the AK-50 fully releases, you need to have a "F*** You Bubba" package that has all the crude asthetics from the not quite proper rivets and crudely welded tripod mounts to the square stamped tubing lower.
I love how your explaining everything as you go along. Can’t wait to see the final product. Are you going to have a 30 magazine? That’s going to be badass

Something struck me about the mag release. Since inertia releases the mag. The mag release is similar to a trigger. Glock uses a drop safety in their triggers to prevent it going off when dropped. Couldn't that same principle be used on a mag release? Might be easier than balancing spring tension. Just a thought.

No that would not work because.... Uh because.... Shit that actually is a good idea.

I don't get the people who are like "Oh there's no way this or that will work" like sure you could say "oh that single recoil spring system looks like it could take some extra beef, I ain't sure about it" but like, do they not get that this man low-key runs a gun workshop. Just weld some beach babes and a pack of white claw on it, totally fixes everything beah
They're usually called engineers. Hahahahahaha!!!!!!
