HETEROMORPHS RISE UP! While it hasn’t been at the forefront exactly, there have been a lot of instances of heteromorph prejudice that we’ve seen before this. Sometimes not even intentionally. Shoto Todoroki called the chief of police a “mutt,” and a member of Class 1-B saying that octopuses creeped her out to Shoji’s face. And then of course there’s the Creature Rejection Cult from last season. It’s a genuine problem that some people, heroes included, can gloss over at times. That leads us to here. Two different perspectives. Should heteromorphs tear down the corrupt system that enabled this kind of prejudice? Or should they prove the prejudice people wrong by becoming a part of that system? Either way, it’s hard to say whether or not that grudge will ever truly disappear. Biggest regret here though? Accepting those quirks from All for One. By manipulating the emotions of those who were wronged by society, he’s using their cause to further his own agenda. And now, the only person who could possibly understand what was going on, can barely speak properly. Ultimately, this cause was part of a bigger picture that speaks to the corruption of hero society, and changing the world for the better.
I’m glad that Todoroki expressed a racist sentiment. As a writer, it would be really tempting to make your protagonists immune to the negative beliefs and behaviors of the societies they grew up in, but that isn’t realistic. People tend to be affected by their environment, and Todoroki feeling comfortable saying something racist towards a heteromorph is a sadly reasonable result of him growing up in the society he did.
Hiding your true appearance, and sometimes true self to avoid scaring people is an unfortunate reality. Truth be told, I think both ways of rising up against oppression and prejudice have their merits. But I guess that’s the hardest choice for a lot of people. Truth be told, I feel really bad for Spinner. While he may not have wanted to be the face of this cause, he definitely cared on some level. But that care he had was physically warped into whatever he is now by All for One. On one hand, I would want to support a movement like this, because truth be told, a lot of people, whether intentionally or not, have hurt heteromorphs (mutants), and society has enabled that kind of behavior. But on the other hand, I can’t say that attacking a hospital is really a great way to prove the point that heteromorphs deserve equal treatment. It’s sad to say, but if All for One loses, then many of these people would be thrown in prison and seen as nothing more than criminals to the public. Obviously, I don’t blame them for acting the way they are though. It’s not fair that they have to make the choice to be strong against unwarranted discrimination that was thrown against them. Nothing about any of this is fair. But I guess that’s my main point. How should we choose to rise up against an oppressive world? Time is one of the main things that will tell.
10:56 in the truest sense of the word yes. They are acknowledging the fact that some of the heros look like villians. Discriminate means to just recognize a difference.
Fun fact, the doctors in the hospital there actually did a breach in protocol when they defended the place. To my knowledge, a lot of hospitals actually encourage their employees to save themselves in cases of emergency like this, only evacuating the patients if they can, but here, they’re putting the patients first. It’s cool to see honestly. (Don’t quote me completely on this though. I’m studying for med school, not in it just yet )
Can I just say that part where he activated the scale armor I got saved in the manga I thought it was gonna be green but as it turns out it was actually red and I gotta say that looked like they really hurt to me it really actually made total sense like no wonder for the next episode and that manga chapter spinner went unconscious because it wasn’t because he reach his limit it was because pretty much suffered too much loss of blood, knowing that he had a quirk that his body couldn’t handle
While I do think this plot line deserved a bit more buildup, I actually think it showing up “out of nowhere“ kind of fits with Spinner being a bandwagoner. While heteromorph discrimination played a part in him becoming the villain he is, he isn’t fully behind this cause and is mainly doing all this for Shigaraki.
This was such a powerful episode. For those who have been judged for how they look, this episode hits hard. In a world that refuses to accept you, do you fight back for justice? or do you discover a way to find peace? I am so glad this was brought up in the My Hero Academia world, with heteromorphs being denied access to parts of the world where normal looking humans walk peacefully. It brings up a morality question, and I honestly understand both. One of my favorite episodes this season.
3:37 “I do find it funny that this is being said to the one black guy in the series.” Shihai Kuroiro - Vantablack: “Ahem. He’s not the only black guy in MHA.”
When these chapters came out, it shot Shoji from a like character to my best character in the entire series. I especially liked the fact that he had every reason to be a villain and chose not to all because of one major event in his life.
I've always enjoyed Shoji and Kota but damn did they get to step up big time, funny thing I never even thought of Shoji as a heteromorph even with the way his arms looked I just figured he shaped them that way with his quirk. So getting his backstory reveal was a very nice suprise and makes complete sense why he's the one facing Spinner along with Kota. Also I gotta say as someone who's not a big Mineta fan seeing him go out of his way to apologize to Shoto for a small but potential insensitve remark got some points from me I'm glad Hirokoshi did that. I wish stuff like this was done with him sooner but better late than never. Obviously as far as the tackling of the racisim issue it was handeled pretty well, especially these days when people love to wash away an antagonists actions just because they have a tragic backstory it's good to have a hero call out the villians and not let them off the hook just because of that tragedy. Even better in that Shoji does understand what it's like but is aware he's in control of his own actions at the end of the day. And is choosing to put that anger towards a healthier option.
11:19 a perfectly reasonable reaction. If you were walking down a dark ally at night and saw something that didn't look human ofcourse you are going to assume that it is a threat.

15:46 Ay yo All for one was Kodas dad all along. (They reused All for ones body from a promotional pic from season 3). Its kinda sad that they removed the guy during the massacare who suspicsuly looked like All for one because it would show that they where duped even more by the guy who was a part of the massacare and we all know All for one didn't even do it because of racism but because he wanted to spread chaos and be the most hated villain ever. All for one the vestige does say that everyone will be equal beneath him so tecknically speaking the heteromorphs would solve the discrimination by being equally below the one true demon lord All for one. Real monkeys paw situation. The creature rejection clan scene has change and so much with the anime context that anime onlys see it as just more scenes of the leauge being evil murdering assholes. Joining All for one the guy who openly braggs about how evil he is probably won't back fire in anyway. Desperate times and all that but still joining the anti christ of the world would probably ruin your life because this would probably warrant harsh punishment. Gotta wonder how many don't even get to the jails with the government and society in shambels people probably arent going to look at the arrest numbers until way later. In the fandom the mutant/problematic quirk discrimination is basically completley ignored. In fanfiction 99% of the time people will go for quirkless discrimination instead even though the only real evidence we have for that is Bakugo bullying Deku. Well this was basically seen in the first chapter so people would remember it more. And since so many saw Horikoshi as racist for this in the manga mostley because they looked at it from a western view people just ignore this part of the world.
It’s wild to remember that there’s actually a shows like "Heroes that look like villains" Ranking of which Gang Orca is on yet Mezo himself confirms he likes watching it. Then you see his tragic backstory and question why he enjoys those shows. I’d love to see his reaction if he too gets ranked on one of those shows. He probably wouldn’t mind but still

One of the biggest missed opportunities is that Centipeder doesn’t appear at all during this section of the story He took over Sir Nighteye’s agency after he died. And with Sir Nighteye himself being All Might’s former sidekick, that’d bring a lot of prestige to this agency that this heteromorph is now in charge of. Yet that all just got forgotten about Would’ve loved to see his take on this riot.
Principle Nezu is one of the examples of an animal with a Quirk. Since he and that Monster Cat & Queen Bee in Vigilantes show that it’s possible for animals to have Quirks, you think the rare breed of critters with quirks will start their own uprising? Imagine how awkward and hilarious it’d have been if it happened right next to this one. How would animal based heteromorphs react to actual animals with quirks? Nezu in a mech suit totally should’ve appeared to offer his own intellectual opinion on the matter. His backstory had him be experimented on which left scars. Surely he’d have something insightful to say, especially since unlike Tentacole despite him being a hero he still has his rare moments where he likes to see humans/his oppressors suffer after what they did to him
Spinner losing his mind is just another flex for Lady Nagant. She was given another Quirk by All for One yet she doesn’t suffer from it. Hell she probably had two quirks considering she could’ve been remote exploded by AfO giving another one. Meanwhile Quirkless Yuga can’t handle his quirk and Spinner was about to go brain dead. Gigantomachia doesn’t suffer physically but mentally it clearly had an effect on him. Lady Nagant is just built different. Could be that her strong will power kept her mind together while Spinner, Aoyama & Gigantomachia were just weak will beings.
Why are most/all of the heteromorphs in this uprising animal based? We already know with characters like Kamui Woods, Wash, Pinky, Vantablack, Plamo, Comicman, Cementoss, Ectoplasm, Backdraft Bubble Girl, & Mr Smith that mutants in MHA can come in a variety of ways no just limited to being animal based, yet you never see that level of diversity in this army Not only is this heteromorph racism plotline coming relatively out of nowhere with little build up jarring, but to see the various heteromorphs of all different kinds appear throughout the series yet these rioters being only limited to animal based one is extremely jarring. It’d be funny if in universe that the animal based heteromorphs themselves were discriminatory towards non animal based heteromorphs
@@Kidoroki Another thing to consider are the heteromorphs who look mostly human yet have mutant traits on their person. Do they get treated differently to people who are full heteromorph? It’s like the subject of what a person with mixed heritage or less pronounced racial features feels about this A lot of the top heroes are heteromorphs, that’s gotta count for something. If Hawks didn’t get his wings taken he would’ve been the new #1 after Endeavor retired, and having the #1 hero in your country has to have an impact just like when Obama became president.
You only saw animal-based among the rioters? Look again. As for me, I will also look again because there's just so much going on. I even thought the head-piked scene wasn't adapted because I missed them among the chaos.
Well as many said, just because someone is a victim of discrimination doesn't mean they themselves not part of doing discrimination too. I figured there are many villains in mha are hypocrites like this. Remember mustard he was saying he got discrimination because of his quirk and yet he himself mocked kendo's quirk calling it weak. Then there's overhaul calling quirk as disease but apparently it never stopped him from using his to his liking.
@@jehmarxx2 I’m sure there were some non animal based ones but they’re designs were so uninspired they sort of just blended in I get Horokoshi was drawing a mob and couldn’t get that creative for every single rioter, but it still would’ve been nice to see one standout design
I gotta say for the part of what they said about Mineta I would actually have to say in that scene where he apologizes to shoji there could’ve been also a scene where Shoji tells him that He wouldn’t be upset about how he thought about him because back in the sports festival when he wanted to be his team with Su he tells him how his multiple arms will come in handy and how he stretches them knowing shoji realize it was a good idea and he was happy to know that a friend in his class Found him really unique.🥹

We already know with characters like Kamui Woods, Wash, Pinky, Vantablack, Plamo, Comicman, Cementoss, Ectoplasm, Backdraft Bubble Girl, & Mr Smith that mutants in MHA can come in a variety of ways no just limited to being animal based, yet you never see that level of diversity in this army
Not only is this heteromorph racism plotline coming relatively out of nowhere with little build up jarring, but to see the various heteromorphs of all different kinds appear throughout the series yet these rioters being only limited to animal based one is extremely jarring.
It’d be funny if in universe that the animal based heteromorphs themselves were discriminatory towards non animal based heteromorphs
@@Sjono I think most likely animal based heteromorphs are most likely more common

Another thing to consider are the heteromorphs who look mostly human yet have mutant traits on their person. Do they get treated differently to people who are full heteromorph?
It’s like the subject of what a person with mixed heritage or less pronounced racial features feels about this
A lot of the top heroes are heteromorphs, that’s gotta count for something.

I’m sure there were some non animal based ones but they’re designs were so uninspired they sort of just blended in
I get Horokoshi was drawing a mob and couldn’t get that creative for every single rioter, but it still would’ve been nice to see one standout design
