Can we see an update of how your floor looks. Great idea with staining different colors!
My husband and I did plywood flooring at our ranch in the country. So many people said we were crazy.. they have been installed seven years ago and they look fantastic. I love the natural wear and tear here and there because it’s a country environment, so it really fits in.
Omg those floors are beautiful. When i redid the floors in my boat i couldnt decide which stain i liked best so i did all the pieces different. It was also a mix of hardwood and narine ply and different seals in different areas. I loves it. U really did a great job, i think it looks better then most floors ive seen on RUclips.
I like that you involve the kids. Well done, dad.
I think your flooring is beautiful! I would love to do this with my flooring.
I am so PROUD of you that you Stained the wood Before you lay them down...
I watch all these shows on TV and they put up RAW wood, and wonder why it looks "OFF" because they have not "TESTED" them on the RAW wood... All wood is Different...
I have been doing Furniture Refinishing for over 45 years...
Thank you so much for this GREAT Video...
I think this flooring looks great its something I would have never considered but now I am going to consider doing it and the color choice looks really good .
Thanks Bronson. We love it.
Awesome work
@@Notfakenews24 hey thanks!
Gracias, it looks amazing
This is one of the best videos ever. You deserve a lot more views
Thanks for the kind words Dominique, I agree.
Hey thank you kindly for your video. I am definitely trying this in my bathroom!!
Awesome! Good luck. Make sure you do your homework on the varnish I'd look into something alittle more waterproof than the one I used.
Outstanding craftsmanship
You show offs 😜
Really like the varying colors!! Awesome!
Thanks, they look even better in person, we need to have you guys out.
I like the different colours looks mad
Thanks? I think?
In Another words awesome
Cool. I must not be up on the lingo.
@@redneckryan yeah im not sure about that ingot either but saying mad doesn't sound like a compliment or smart lingo
Hey bro, I know its a year later but your video is truly very helpful as I'm doing the exact thing, plus your beard is brilliant! Cheers my man!
I just came across a fb video of plywood flooring today 1.18.24, and thought let me see what you tube has. I absolutely love your design choice in colors and how well you've explained the steps. I think I've finally found my floors. We've been walking on painted concrete for 2 years. It's worked and we've got alot of compliments on it but I always knew it was my temporary choice.
Awesome! Good luck. Should be way easier on concrete than the subfloor I have. Use lots of glue!
I am considering this flooring for my concrete basement floors. What prep would you do on the concrete floors? My concrete floors are in my basement.. do I seal the floor first or put down sub flooring?
This is fantastic . Can’t believe it’s plywood . Great job
It turned out better than I expected and we love it!
Amazing work
How you mixed the boards before nailing it.
Getting the kids involve.
Salute from UK 🇬🇧
Thanks! @@faithful5475
Beautiful floors
I F*****g like this guy already. Banjo Playin’ scared me for some reason. (I got a pretty mouth). Good Job. I may try this on my lil shack this summer !
Thanks John Good luck!
Awesome!!! I'm going to do this in my bus conversion.. different colors.. love this
Awesome!
Wow! It’s really beautiful 😍.
Why doesn’t this video have any views?? This is absolutely amazing! Awesome work!!
Thanks Austin. I wonder the same thing daily. RUclips algorithm... don't forget to share like and subscribe. Thanks for watching!
very pretty! Thank you for the tips!
Great video. Floor looks great.
Absolutely stunning!
Thanks Kristie !
Great video! Looks great! How is it holding up (scratches, dings, etc.)? What kind of wood is the plywood? What is the plywood thickness? How do you keep dirt from getting into the cracks in between the boards? If you spill water or a drink on the floor, how do you prevent the water from seeping in between the cracks between the boards? Won't the water go in between and underneath the boards and ruin your OSB underlayment? Thanks, so much.
That's sanded plywood 1/4 , 3/8 or 15/32 i used 15/32. you don't have to worry about crack or spilled water the urethane takes care of that. Just keep the all the planks EXACTLY the same width and butted tightly together. put at least four thin coats of urethane letting it completely dry between coats. no problems, 2 years and 2 kids spilling everything you can think of.
Nice idea, the different colors of stain. I'm not sure fan of the cherry (never have been), but I like the darker ones, especially. I saw a diamond pattern done with the plywood, and I think the multiple colors of stain with the diamond pattern would be fanfreakingtastic for my kitchen floor! Thanks for the idea!
Beautiful!
The floor joists were p;robably installed upside down. Most people do not know that joists have a slight crown to them. They should be installed crown side up, then the weight of flooring straightens them.
This is the most beautiful floor I've ever seen
Thanks Manuel! We really like ow it turned out.
@@redneckryan What's been your experience with plywood flooring instead of regular hardwood?
It has been great so far.
I love all the colors looks great
Thanks brandy, we love it too!
BEAUTIFUL COLORS! Love it 💞💞💞
Man this wood floor just floored me. The colour combinations are amazing. Great sense of styling. Superb look. Would really love if you could create some kind of list or pdf that people could access and do themselves. Lime lapse is too quick for beginners and you seem to have experience. Cheers
Thanks. This is the first floor I have ever put down. I am in no way a subject matter expert. Just wanted to share what I learned.
Beautiful Brother! 💪🏿👍🏿You are Amazing my dude!
Thanks Marcus, you're amazing too!
@@redneckryan thank you sir!
NICE!!
Looks fantastic
Nice job 👍
Very nice!! Thanks for the tips as we prepare to use 3/4" thick 12"
X 12' planks.
Good luck!
That looks good
Beautiful Work
Thanks cody!
looks awesom!
We think so too Angie!
Applying the varathane at the end made a big difference… I like shiny floors so I thought it looked very beautiful.
Thanks. I used the satin. There is a gloss version also for a shiny finish.
What a beautiful floor.
Thanks Denise! We think so too!
Ryan, I love what you have done here. I have two mobile homes welded together and there is an uneven hump. I have never removed the flooring totally to see what the problem is, probably the weld. I purchased it this way and would like to renovate it but your idea above is the answer because of the hardiness and the durability and the cost. This unit is offset a lake so the humidity levels are higher! Just beautiful and looks like I could tackle it!!
Thanks! And good luck Doris!
luv this floor covering , this turned ut awesome
Thanks. We think so too!
The little girl stained her forehead 🤣🤣🤣
Looks amazing. Good job 👏
Thanks Mark!
Looks great mang
Thanks, we think so too!
Fantastic job. I'm building a log cabin and was looking for an attractive and cost effective covering over 3/4 osb. I love the multi stains!
Thanks Liam, we love it and it's holding up great.
This is the most beautiful wood floor I've seen. It would have been really nice to have more video showing the finished results in all the rooms. As the video was ending I was so disappointed. But excellent job. Just love the floor.
Thanks John, here's a video on my other channel where you can see more of the floor after we are all moved in. ruclips.net/video/P4upX43OOBw/видео.html
@@redneckryan Thank you!
@@kumite14u thank you
Awesome 🎉
Wow that floor came off awesome I love it the only problem I have I would love to do that line I closed in my breezeway and it’s already got bored Lani because it was a deck. So then I put down half inch plywood could not use 3/4 Because it was too sick to go under the door so I had to stop and think how to do this so I had to level one side up with shims and the other side is a little high but I’ve got it at work it looks awesome I came out good so now I’m thinking I have quarter inch plywood
Sweet project. I would have used a roller to finish, but other than that it looks amazing.
That might have been quicker, I was following the directions on the can. With all of the hard work i had into it at that point, I didn't want to mess it up.
At quarter inch plywood that would fit right under the door but I loved all the different colors that you did I wonder if I could tape it off and stain it like you did and then put a polyurethane thanks for all the cool tips Lesia DUCK I wish I could send you pictures
You could try it on a sample piece. Not sure how well staining works with tape the way it soaks into the wood.
how thick is the plywood you used? i'm hoping to get by with smaller thickness but dont know if thats recommended
Would a slight bevel help to not allow the boards to lift up?
Sorta like regular wood flooring? Or won’t work as it’s ply-wood
@Mr.SuperDuper-idk we did bevel our boards thats what all the sanding was about, and so we didn't get splinters in our feet. I'm not sure if you mean tongue and groove. There are some tongue and groove composites out there, but I wouldn't try it with this low grade of a product.
I'm thinking of doing this but then I have this idea of collecting driftwood as well
I love this idea!!! Before I do it to my house how is it holding up?
2 years in. 3 kids 3 dogs. Holding up better than expected. I wish I would of used more glue in some spots. There are a few boards that are loose I need to pry up and re glue.
@@redneckryanLooks like you used a lot of glue! Maybe just the normal shifting of a mobile home. I know mine is always moving and shaking.
@Zornat89 I did use alot of glue. Some high traffic areas could of used more. It has been in for about 2 years and I have a few boards that are starting to loosen and bow.
Beautiful
Thanks! We think do too!
@@redneckryan not just the floor but whole family and friends, stay blessed.
Very nice.
Thanks Lauren. We are very pleased with the way they turned out.
Love this. Is it holding up after 2 years?
I'm actually surprised how well it is holding up with 3 kids and 3 dogs.
@@redneckryan I’m going to need to try this. The multiple stain colors is awesome.
I have a question if you would help me, I have seen several vids on this and I wanna know what width did you use for the plywood? I figured I could get away with 3/8 possibly but you did such an awesome job I would love any pointers. I am obsessed with your work here and you have inspired me to do exactly what you have done in this video. I bought a fixer upper 2300 SF home that needs a lot of work and this is a very cost-effective way of putting new flooring in compared to faux flooring. I am doing this all the way through except bedrooms (New carpet going in those). Thank you for the vid and response!
. I think the stuff I got was marked. 32" so alittle over 1/4 a little under 3/8
@@redneckryan Thank you for your reply! I was looking at Home Depot the other day and another video I saw they used 3/4" and I thought there is not reason to spend all the extra money nor do I need flooring that thick, so thank you much for the info. I am sanding down Southern Yellow Pine ( I have a 2300+ SF house to cover) so I am making due with cheaper plywood, and learned if I first sand it with a 100 grit then apply a coat of sanding sealer, then sand with a finer grit, I can stain it with the stains ( I just had to copy you on the colors LOL- BEAUTIFUL, then apply appropriately the polyurethane for flooring coats, it should turn out just fine. Keep the awesome vids up! Thanks again from Kory in Texas :)
How would you do it if you had a concrete slab for subfloor?
You will need a vapor barrier I would think you could epoxy it and then glue to that, but don't take my word for it I'm just a youtuber not a flooring expert, I'd have to do alot more research.
Did you test for asbestos on the tile that you took up?
Nope the house is 2004.
This is a Fantastic Video...
but the background noise/music was a little too loud, making it hard to hear you at times...
We do Not need background noise... We just want to HEAR you Talk...
How wide did you cut your planks?
@mspahn1967 I tried to explain it at 5:35 they were just under 4" to account for the balde width of lost material and not having alot of scrap.
Modular home owner and have been considering doing this for some time. What size board did you use as those do not look like 1/2 or even 3/4 which I'm sort glad because I wanted to do this with 1/4 plywood... the stain game is 🔥🔥
Yep! I used 1/4"
Hi, how are the floors holding up? Two questions. No moisture barrier on concrete? No glue? and what nails did you use for both concrete and wood?
They are holding up great! Better than I expected. Did you watch the video? I didn't do anything on concrete. I glued every board. I used 1.5" 18ga brads throughout.
Did you use 1/4" plywood?
Yup!
What thickness of the plywood did you us? And what grade
I think I used construction plywood 3/8(or .3something inch) I know it was under 1/2"
@@redneckryan thanks for the reply
What thickness of plywood did you use?
Essentially 1/4". I think it was a decimal though. .31 or .38. I can't recall exactly. Less than 1/2" I know that.
How are these standing up to time and wear?
Great! I think the diffrent colors help. 3 dogs and 3 kids and I have only had to touch up one spot because we slid some furniture that had a sharp nail. We love them and are still planing on doing more of the house we just haven't had the time.
Those floors are HOT!
Good idea however I would consider the longevity of plywood as the surface finish laminate is probably 2 mm thick this is the only downside of this idea which immediately sprang to mind, the possibility of a hard varnish top coat would help overcome this weakness......still 10 out of 10 for effort 🇬🇧💪🇬🇧💪🇬🇧
Still looks great after 2 years. I think it will hold up alot better than some of the wood laminate products on the market and most of those boast 20 years. Cheers.
just curious how many sheets you used for the space you had to do? Ours is similar and was going to do a rough price of what it might be for us.
I used 1 sheet for every 32 sq ft.
@@redneckryan sounds good
Hey Ryan. Would you be able to tell me how much area you covered with this ply and how much plywood you actually used? Thank you.
I covered about 1200 square feet. 4x8 sheets are 32 sq ft. So according to that I needed 38 sheets I think I bought 40 sheets and I had some left over. There really isn't a whole lot of waste. I was able to use up most of the scraps.
Did it turn out being smooth or is it a rough finish? I did not hear you say that you standed the coat after you put it on. And do you know if plywood drinks and expands after it has been milled and sat for awhile? I'm thinking about doing this in my camper
It came out alittle textured, it feels nice on bare feet. Not smooth like a basketball floor but not abrasive either. No I did not sand anything after the stain was applied. Plywood will have considerably less expansion and contraction than solid hard wood because the wood grain goes in diffrent directions in each layer. I think it would be great in a camper! Good luck and let me know how it turns out!
you could of did the final coat so much easier if you used a roller. sometimes they say not to but get a one that you can
@briandeluca6908 yeah I seriously considered it but didn't want to risk having to sand a gloopy top coat. Brushing it on wasn't that bad of a gig with the pole brush.
What sealer did you use?
amzn.to/3mD643d
That original floor in that first room was not Plywood, that is called particle board. If it ever gets wet it will look like a roller coaster. All of that should be replaced with real Plywood. It's not even allowed in mobile homes anymore.
With the price of plywood I am going to with Vinyl plank. It is a shame because I really like your work.
It cost me under $2/sqft and it was only a few months ago, plywood prices were high. It's hard to find decent vynal for that. I don't know your maths but it was a no-brainer for me. Good luck!
How thick of a plywood did you use?
3/8 or .344in thick.
@@redneckryan It looks fantastic, how has it held up?
@@busted7426 great so far! It has been almost a year.. we love it, wouldn't of done anything differently.
Also did you varnish/clear coat the floor after you installed it?
Would have cost a bit more with laminate.....and a ton less work🤓🤠😎✌✌✌
what kind of plywood, yellow pine? and width did you use?... It looks beautiful!
Yep, pine. The cheapest "one side sanded" option. The planks came out to 4" minus the width of the blade on the saw to minimize waste. Thanks, we think so too.
Don't you wear gloves when putting in insulation?
I think my hands were calloused enough that I didn't notice.
