Crabs climb wall...those that don't, get smashed by Rays.

  • Marching Spider crabs find a breakwater wall. They climb it to avoid predators and find that it is a good source of food. Those that stay on the ground during the moulting period will likely get eaten. Even those that manage to moult at a safe higher level, are only safe if they manage to hold on, until after their carapace hardens ..If they fall off while soft and spongy they will be met by hungry Rays.

    Awesome footage! The rays are like UFO's from Close Encounters of the Third Kind, for the crabs.

      Thanks for watching, think you will be interested to know that there is still a few pockets of small Spider crabs (yet to moult)tucked away at the base and in a few corners of the breakwater. Only roughly 30- 50 in each group.I thinking, hoping actually to catch them moulting on or little after this coming full moon early August (2023)

      Tasseled angler.fish ....and a female big belly seahorses(Hippocampus abdominalis.) about 11-12cm ...avaerage size but can be bigger
