One of the biggest growing aspects of diving recently has been using scuba diving for disabilities and therapy. Today scuba diving is one of the most inclusive activities and there are dedicated charities that use scuba diving for extreme cases of disability and that’s because it works. Scuba diving helps you both mentally and physically, which is why they’re using it so much for rehabilitation for a whole range of people.
Arguably the biggest benefit is the physical because people with physical disabilities are freed from their physical constraints while diving but there's also the mental benefit to scuba diving too and that’s what we’re going to be focusing on in this video. It’s harder to quantify and study but there are some serious benefits for your mental health while scuba diving and why more people should try it and use it as a way to improve their mental health.

    Here is the story@
I used to suffer from daily full blown panic attacks for some time (2014-2015) and many people who had the same problem told me you have it for life. They were on medications. I knew they said it because they didn't find a solution for it. To me it was a new challenge to stay in control without meds and stop panic attacks.
Then I went scuba diving on holidays (2016) after few months of my last panic attack. Once we arrived to the location I started panicking again for a bit from not knowing what is going to happen. Am I going to have another panic attack? I thought am over it and finally found the way to stay under control. Captain told me to get up and jump 5m from top of the boat for fun but I couldn't do that. Which was weird because in my early 20's I have done bunjee jumping on few occasions yet jumping 5m was a horror this time. Keep in mind no one knew about this on the boat. In the end I jumped with others and then jumped again and again as I started enjoying it. Had my adrenaline up again. I jumped because of previous experience of jumping which gave me confidence to do it again. Some time later I ended up in the water ready for a first dive with others. We spent 20+minutes under water and I never panicked. In fact it had the opposite effect on me and I felt completely free. Still very much in my head during the dive but calm as the water. If someone tells you you can't cure your panic attacks that's because they can't do it themselves.

When you dive the only thing that exist is that exact moment , one moment of mental lapse , one moment of not being present within the current moment could spell disaster for you and those around you. It makes you focus and through your focus you find a calm clarity that you can’t find elsewhere . When I was diving it was the only time I felt truly at peace , I was part of the world in a bigger way than just existing in the human world. One of the greatest gifts I’ve been given. People that haven’t experienced it for what it truly is haven’t felt what it means to truly be alive , that’s my opinion , but I think it’s important

I have severe OCD and ADHD. When I am SCUBA diving, everything rests and I can truly be at peace with my mind and it's function. Sadly, I don't have the money to SCUBA often, but truly respect this recreation.

The need to be mindful of breathing and an emphasis on slow movements is why diving is the best form of meditation I know. :)

Like said on vid it is nice and quiet underwater, unless a boat comes over you... i love it there is no talking, phones, etc and you are submerged in a different world.

Scuba diving is quiet! Being underwater where no one can bother me is so freeing. For about an hour, I really don’t have to listen to anyone else. It’s wonderful

I enjoy liveaboards because I can travel alone and yet never feel lonely. The challenges are fun and the socializing easy going. Being in your own head is indeed very meditative and the life below the surface gives a new perspective on the world. I started diving in my 50’s. Absolutely love every second of it.

I want to congratulate you on an exceptional video statement, very impressive on content and value. For anyone thinking of becoming a diver or considering self-improvement this stands heads above most motivational narratives for a capsule ideal of what could possibly be a life changing decision! Keep it up !!!

I am an avid #MentalHealthAwareness advocate and spoken word performer, and I love this so much. I travel the country trying to bring that awareness on stages, in classrooms, hospitals, and on my RUclips channel, so I get excited when I see other advocates. 💙❤

I think is more about stress relief...if people around you on the boat are not idiots and sometimes unfortunately they are if come in a big groups and dive only in holiday.
Same with fitness level. I saw a lot of divers out of shape because lack of gravity and because move slowly makes dive more easy compare with swimming or hiking.

I also think it’s about if people in your group are willing to admit what they don’t know or aren’t experienced with. Diving has no place for ego , it can be life fulfilling or tragic depending on how you treat it. If you admit your lack of knowledge to people familiar with the area then you will be absolutely fine and they will appreciate your humility. If you try to act like a badass…..that’s when you get into trouble , it can be a very dangerous hobby if you act that way

Like your hair LOL. I tend to be very keyed up on the boat but get very calm once in the water.

I have noticed in the group I dove with that we would laugh and cut up before we would gear up once we started to put it together it would become very quiet and all business like, consontrating on the dive, checking out your and your buddies gear. Then after the dive it went back to our normal lunatic selves

So in a summary. You're effectively saying: like and unsubscribe and get in the water, get away from the internet and start diving.
Subliminal messaging.... I like it. Anyway going to plan my dive now. Something or someone created an itch.

I dive by swimming under water. I feel like a zen master after it. I'm not that crazy to scuba dive.

How does scuba diving deal with people who are not neurotypical (that is, people who are autistic)? What percentage of certified scuba divers are autistic?
