That thing Adam said about the voice-leading suspensions evolving into common progressions makes a world of sense. It's probably related to why some players (Pat Martino) can reduce a ii-V to be all ii chord while others (Barry Harris, Branford Marsalis) can reduce it to be all V chord, and both approaches can sound great. Everyone's right in a sense because it's all about the movement of voices in building and releasing tension.
The may also be related to how Bird would phrase over a ii-V such that it tends to start out sounding kind of like a ii, moving into a straight V, then to an altered V by the climax of the phrase. This makes perfect sense if you think of a "ii-V" as "a unit of increasing harmonic tension arrived at by means of interweaving melodic voices..."

I feel compelled to share some thoughts. May they lead to some healthy evolution.
6:30 Adam's interruption here leaves me feeling super irritated. I want to see a respectful, interesting, entertaining, and "musical" dialog.
I get annoyed when Peter Martin (PETER MARTIN!) starts sharing his perspective and then gets interrupted by... ANYone.
Ugh, another spot 10:40. Peter is making a useful point and Adam just... starts playing!!!! Stops looking at Peter, not once acknowledging the point he's making about MVP, and seems to ignore him completely. Srsly?!?!? Some may write this off as normal, but it strikes me as rude and disrespectful. Hurts to watch.
11:58 and Peter showing options for what to do with that gnarly C-alt, which has nagged me for years, and Manness doesn't even let him finish the phrase before jumping in and kind of changes the subject. So then at 13:10, Adam takes over completely, spends the next minute fishing, as if he didn't really have anything other than just being uninterested in Peter and wanting the floor back.
Can we clarify the relationship here, fellas? In my view, Peter Martin is a modern jazz giant. And an EXCELLENT teacher, in my experience. Adam is a knowledgeable player and decent online teacher, and may be the driving force behind putting this online biz together and doing the management.
Now, can we let Peter be Peter on these duet videos? IMO, it'd be much more fun, and much more educational. With all due respect, I'd enjoy these videos much more if Adam would chill out and allow himself to play second chair, musically. There would be NO SHAME in that. Any shame comes from trying to appear otherwise.
I really do hope this is received as constructive criticism. I have a lot of appreciation for this channel, for what I've learned already and what I could still learn going forward. But I've gotten to where I hesitate to watch because I really don't like getting pissed over videos on jazz music, of all things.
