    The sweet child intro on amp2 was perfect. Amp 2 have a very sweet tone

    why not profile the actual amp then compare? using a profile made by someone else against another is amp in different settings isnt really a comparison

    Cool. I was right. I think both sounded good, but the AFD definitely sounded better for the distorted tracks.

      Thing is that they didn’t profile the amp with the same mic position and same eq they used to record the amp for the video so this can’t be a real comparison

  • @josiahbryan9972

    This is a very well done test:
    1. Used the same guitar when comparing parts.
    2. Had the same player when comparing parts.
    3. The playing itself was very good.
    4. Blind test.
    5. Played clean and dirty tones.
    I like amp 2 more (although they both sound good), and I believe amp 2 is the AFD100

      Problem is, that the profile on the Kemper had nothing to do with the setup they were running after the AFD.

      ayeapprove which renders the whole test pretty much meaningless at least in terms of profiling accuracy.

    Amp one on the distorted part at 3:39 sound huge while when amp 2 chimes in, is sounds way less distorted with almost an acoustic tone mixed in. I liked the Kemper way better!

  • @Guitarchie

    I could tell between amp 1 and 2 because the Marshall I feel has more bite and attack sound to it than the kemper

    I guessed what amp2 is AFD. Amp1 sound like it already eq.

  • @jvafrancisco
    @jvafrancisco 7 лет назад +2

    When the comparison had started, from the intro of Sweet Child O' Mine got me the guess of the AFD as the 2nd amp, which has a more powerful distortion and more bite compared to the Kemper. But for the clean tone, I didn't expect for the 1st amp, Kemper, to outdo the AFD considering that the tubes in it make it less cleaner compared to the digital stuff. Very good comparison!

  • @azlakki
    @azlakki 6 лет назад +1

    For me this was easy because I own the AFD100.
    The difference is big and will always be between digital and analog tube amps.
    Modeling will get you there but far away.
    AFD is one of the best amps, in the band mix it really shines and live situation.
    I've tried over the years, almost all digital and immediately the first thing that bothers is the latency. You may not hear but I feel and sense it.
    Another thing that jumps on your face is a slim and sharp sound landscape.
    AXE and KEMPER guys of course believe their boxes.

      Not!!!!, have always preferred sound 2, because I hesitate to sell my jcm and my bassman to buy a kemper, and I said to myself if 2 is a kemper, I buy it, but no !! ! is the real amp. so I keep my real amps. no pods, no e11rack, no kempers amps!!!

    Well, this is not a comparison of Kemper vs. real amp. It’s a comparison of how well one studio engineer did his job compared to some other engineer. If you like the real amp sound better then profile that and use that profile. Or buy a different commercial AFD profile

    • @ayeapprove
      @ayeapprove 7 лет назад +1

      So much this. This is a snapshot of a different micplacement/cab vs. micing it yourself with your cab.
      They should have created a snapshot based on their setup.

      It's all about the profile and the quality of the profile. Not saying it's not possible these two guys to create a quality profile... but let MBritt take a crack at it. Not the same league.

  • @SickMetalAddict
    @SickMetalAddict 5 лет назад +1

    Why are people hating on the fact that the profile was bought rather than made by the person himself?
    Let me ask you this, what is the purpose of the Kemper to YOU when YOU buy it? It's to get access to amplifiers you will never own, let alone be able to profile. It's fair that he compares them in this way.
    Also, if you're a shit person at micing to the point that you'll make an AFD sound worse than its Kemper copy that was made by someone who is brilliant at micing things up, then that's another benefit of the Kemper. It saves you the trouble and the costs of having to do things yourself.
    You guys care about the technicalities and the little details while the maker of the video obviously cares about what's useful in the real world. This is as real as it gets, guys, not the other way round. I don't see why you guys are demanding that he'd profile that amp himself.

    I personally prefer the distortion on the Marshall, the Kemper cleans, but I think the Kemper actually sounded "closer" in comparison to stuff off AFD. But I feel the AFD tone is more somewhere in-between the two amps.

    ragazzi, questa è una vera comparazione! Al mio inesperto orecchio chitarristico devo dire che, a parte piccole sfumature, i due suoni risultano spaventosamente simili. Questo Kemper, non c'è che dire, fa veramente un gran lavoro. E quasi mi dispiace! :) Ma a parte le diavolerie digitali alla fine ci vuol sempre un gran chitarrista, e devo dire che lo siete entrambi, non solo per la riproduzione fedelissima, ma anche per la scioltezza.
    Di dove siete?

  • @yellokrab
    @yellokrab 7 лет назад

    To be fair the Kemper is dependent on how good you are at micing an amp, or you can DI the amp and then you're dependent on the IR quality (Ownhammer, etc). Any amp can sound dang near any other if you're good at micing. I think they both sound great and I love how fat the AFD is. Great example!

  • @lauriedepaurie
    @lauriedepaurie 7 лет назад

    Besides the obvious EQ'ing the kemper gives, I clearly hear the AFD is more dynamic and sounds like it's more true to the guitar's tone. The Kemper doesn't sound bad, especially in a live mix and when you're not AB'ing it would be hard to hear it's not a tube-amp, but it's one-dimensional, lacks the typical slashy sweetness and is less 'transparent'.
    My experience exactly with Kemper and other modelers. In the room you can clearly distinguish them.

  • @Heatfarmer
    @Heatfarmer 6 лет назад

    Amp 2 sounds like a Marshall as opposed to amp 1 sounding like a Marshall after the mix. I can see the Kemper having a real value to anybody wanting ability to go between a lot of sounds or variations without too many compromises. On a Marshall you'd have to go with 2 full stacks and a rack plus a lot of gear filling up the stage to achieve the same as the Kemper can do rather convincing. Not perfect, but it is 90% there

  • @auleregydio5358
    @auleregydio5358 7 лет назад +2

    We need to remember that Kemper has infinite amplifiers (profiles) and Marshall is just like the one, I have tested AFD profiles much better than this one used in the test, so Kemper is the best deal, and it can be used with low sound in any environment .

    Ciao ragazzi. Intanto bravi. Bel video test, essenziale e ben suonato. Fin dal primo fraseggio ho riconosciuto la rotondità del crunch Marshall, la valvola si sente subito. Quindi, io sto con Marshall. Il Kemper può dare comunque molto, se ben settato. Rock on

    • @ALDOPINEDAPINO
      @ALDOPINEDAPINO 6 лет назад

      I agree with you..... there's more volume on the AFD on the intro part.. it's funny how for a lot of people here that comes to sound as "better tone"... if you go back and check and you imagine both tones at the same volume level.. you might change your mind. In fact the tone of the kemper sounded so natural to me that I also thought it would be the AFD.... Bottom line: KEMPER really is amazing!

      @morphous 6 лет назад

      i agree. amp 1 was more closer to sweet child tone. actually slash’s amp was modified version. and kemper and this tube are just imitating that slash amp each different way one digitally the other using tube. So only tone... i think kemper more similar that tone when i heard original song.

    • @DaGuyver
      @DaGuyver 6 лет назад

      The AFD has more dynamic and definition than the Kemper which is basically very flat. The solos gave away the amp especially the PC intro solo. The AFD can sound very damped when not properly EQ-ed and cranked. I assume the power attenuator was off, but mind you that the combination (master) volume and distortion can make or break the sound of the AFD. But it is like everybody says, this comparison is kinda meaningless and in my opinion no conclusion can be drawn from it other than personal preference.

  • @MrTyphoontyphoon
    @MrTyphoontyphoon 6 лет назад

  • @Ironcross
    @Ironcross 7 лет назад

    Si,ho indovinato! purtroppo si sente bene la differenza,la dinamica c'è nel kemper eccome però gli manca ancora qualcosa che lo rende unico e uguale nel profilare. poi ovviamente dipende anche dal profilo. I valvolari restano comunque REALI quando suoni,si sente il vero suono puro sule corde e delle mani. Sono anni che suono anche in digitare e mi piace un sacco,ma tengo sempre ben stretti i valvolari in camera :) Gran bel video Danilo! se riesci puoi fare il confronto con le altre piattaforme digitali come Helix e AX8 ecc. Se hai bisogno di fare una prova con altri profili io ho una 5150 prima serie e sarebbe un piacere apparire in un tuo video :D

    Amp 1 sounded clearer/more 'open' than Amp 2 in this clip ...
    What mode/settings was the AFD on? Did it have a rather compressed sound? Or perhpas it was the mic'ing ... ?
    My choice or Slash GnR sounds would be a Jube or 2203, properly mic'ed ... :)
    I haven't been impressed with recorded AFD tones that I've heard ... :/

  • @Gregorovitch144
    @Gregorovitch144 6 лет назад

    Clearly the Marshall sounds better when cranked but both sounded good. Where the Kemper wins out so heavily is it's conistency and versitility and above all the fact that you can just plug it straight into your DAW or front of house and it sounds the same every time. There is reason bands like Metallica and countless others use AxeFx live now. They leave the $200k amp collection back in the studio.

    • @Dimiguitar
      @Dimiguitar 6 лет назад

      1234gregor marshall may well sound better cranked, but this test says little about kemper. Apparently the amp set up wasn't profiled; therefore so it's to he expected that there will be bigger differences than usual.

    Did you profile your own AFD and compare like for like or were you using the AFD profile that comes with the Kemper?
    Did you run the Kemper through a cabinet and mic it or was it a full rig including Cabinet and Mic profiles?
    I actually thought they both sounded very similar but Amp 1 was better for both clean and dirty sounds.

    Grandissima trovata, bella idea!!! Comunque il Kemper è figo ma il valvolare è imbattibile secondo me. Anche nei puliti mi è piaciuto di più, è vero quello che avete detto, però boh, gusto mio, preferisco il suono meno nitido del valvolare sul pulito però più "vero" diciamo, con il kemper si sente molto, infatti, che è digitale, nonostante sia comunque figo

    Non hai specificato come hai registrato l'ampli. Il kemper era più simile al suono del disco nei distorti, ma in ogni caso centrava poco. La vera differenza sembra una equalizzazione diversa dei due più che altro. I honestly liked amp 2 better and I was hoping like hell it wasn't the kemper. Thank god it wasn't. I saw a video on andertons channel and had a hard time telling the difference. In this video I feel like it's more "real word" and I am so thankful that all the money I have spent on tube amps wasn't wasted. Great video.

    • @Dimiguitar
      @Dimiguitar 6 лет назад

      Jason White apparently they didn't profile the amp tone as in the video, but used some profile of an afd someome else shot... (Or maybe they shot it, but of a different afd rig, who knows..?). Point is Kemper could well have gotten closer to the amp tone here had they profiled the tone as it was set up. Not much of a conclusion about kemper can be drawn from the above methodology.

    people tend to forget about "YOUR" investment. buy a new kemper sell it for a loss buy a great amp and if you have to sell it you usually get your investment back. Plus tube amps rule. always have , always will. I have a Diaz CD-100 and a Warren Haynes Special. If I ever sold them I would get ALOT more than I paid for them.

  • @XChristianNoirX

    Something is wrong... they sound so different the profile can't possibly being the same setup.
    When I profile my own, the difference is 1% which is mostly remedied by some tweaking, at least for close mic'd.
    Here, you have like a 20-25% difference.
    This has to be user error.

      No. It is rubbish compared to a real 2203.

    turn down definition in the kempers amp menu and increase compression to 2 and bias then it should fit a bit better ...

    Amp1 - Poor clean/cool dist very close to Slash sound.
    Amp2 - amazing clean/muddy distorted sound.
    Almost sure the second is Marshall.

      Also first one sounds more compressed and second one is more full sounding. But I still prefer first one.

    Ye the afd clearly won. More output. Clear and way more bite. Just a lot better.
