Thanks for another enjoyable video Tim. Great to see the black 5 looking so splendid, and to pause for thought for all those who make that possible, hats off to them all for helping these locomotives serve longer in preservation than they did in main line service, and to you for helping us enjoy seeing them. Magic!
Thank you Dave. Yes, a lot of people , both full-time and part -time, work long and arduous hours to enable these specials to run. Look at them in the videos - they're often well on in years, of an age when they might have been enjoying a well-earned retirement.
Thank you. There aren't many places where you can get as close to a moving train. Add in the signal box and gates and - yes - it is an interesting location for filming.
Hi I think I know you my name is Phil i 50 years on the footplate i started at Edgeley in 1961 as a fireman I finished my time out at Longsight in 2011 driving high speed trains Regards Phil.
Well, at least the rain held off for my time at Corby Gates. I don't know what I'd have done if it had rained during that time - Wetheral station is an attractive place but, on a tight curve, it's not a good spot for filming a passing train. Best wishes to Chatham - it's a long time since I visited the museum there.
Oh wow Tim, you certainly captured a lot in just over the 23 minutes which you posted. from very nasty weather to the lovely sights of a Black 5…Like you i have never ever seen 2 diesels on the ‘back end’ before! I certainly would not have liked standing on that ‘very overcrowded’ train, absolutely no fun at all. No doubt there was no trolley service due to blocked gangways… been there before a few times but no desire to repeat that ever again. Fantastic vlog Tim, so entertaining…
A good day out despite the rain West Coast must be getting cautious of having failures using 2 x diesel boxes. I got a good soaking on this day, the weather changed quickly from blue sky to grey mist and a downpour fooling me into staying longer than I would if it had been looking like rain was coming.
It was obviously very changeable and dependent on location. I had a brief chat with Mick Rawlins who had driven the train from Hellifield to Carlisle and he assured me that it had been perfectly OK up on the high fells but that, even from far off, he could see that it was very different over Carlisle!
Hello Fraser. I'm afraid I've been unwell and have spent a couple of days in bed. Should be travelling to Glasgow tomorrow but not sure that I'll be up to it.
Made it out to armarthaite in the rain to see it heading towards Carlisle. was lucky to see it at Carlisle on my way back from armathaite and on its return journey. if i might add its odd to see two 47s and such a random mish mash of carriages too.
I must say that I dislike the random mix of carriage liveries - spoils the overall appearance of the train. However - we must be grateful for what we get. If British Rail had had their way in 1968 we'd never have seen a steam train on the main line again.
Sounds like a good day despite the odds with the weather, i was at cadets so missed it, ill more than likely be at carlisle on the weekend if the next steamer runs
Really a very good video Tim not so good about the heavy rain but at least it stopped raining for raining for you to film the stream train outside and a few other trains just a question why was one of the class 68 trains looking like it hadn’t been cleaned in months is that for reason or not Tim and it was interesting seeing the two class 47S diesel trains so very well done
Did the 44871 go from Carisle, then down the ECML to Derby? Cos I live righht on the ECML at Darlington, and a steamer with the pullman carriages went past at about 7pm.
The train passed through Darlington at 6.45 so I presume that's what you saw. The carriages, incidentally, were not Pullman coaches but BR standard Mark 2s which date from after the steam age. 44871 was scheduled to haul the train as far as Milford loop near Ferrybridge, where the diesel took over.
1:28 I think unless you are a commuter and have "herd power" it's not really safe to go by rail unless you aren't really that serious about actually going anywhere in particular at a chosen time. 3:17 So . . . what does that Tesco trolly train take back from Scotland to pay for it's return journey? Any more info ? They have 10 of these services now, including the train from Spain . . . . And with DB cargo and Freightliner ( which is largest operator ) plus DRS ( are they a private company ) amazing contrast to UK passenger services. Shame UK freight traffic is only at 1980s levels - but no coal anymore, so everything else must have expanded a bit . . . If you keep showing the weedkiller we may soon get a cavalex or rapido model. Looks like the weathering will be easy though - a sort of brown splodge. I missed the rain on saturday by going to the pub for lunch half way on my (24 mile) walk to see the Surrey Iron Coulsdon embankment ( well CM&G technically ) it didn't feel cold but I needed another visit in Croydon on the way back because the cold takes it out of you somehow. Never been to see that before - seen lots of canals stuff and other embankments, but its a bit hidden. Saw where the bridge was too - there's a hump in the road somehow - odd for an underbridge. I went the other way from Croydon earlier in the year. My equivalent of your Citadel. 12:11 they need the two Brush-fours because the southern one can drive south due to having a south facing cab, but can't drive north due to being obstructed, but the other loco has a clear north facing cab which isn't blocked by another vehicle. You can tell I'm an AI now can't you - and I somehow failed to tell you that the train should obviously go in the middle. Still, I'm the first ever AI rail enthusiast and I'm looking forward to helping you run the planet presently. An alternative explanation is that one human driver knows the way there and the other the way back. That Corby Gates would make a good micropub, but no wetherburger and a pint of IPA for £7 I guess. Very interesting vid as ever . . . thanks.
Paul Moody the weather man on BBC1 Look North showed a still of the black 5 passing Brampton sent in by a viewer tonight at 7 o'clock so got a heads up of your video tonight.

Excellent video from both places that signal box looks good place to film and I also have not seen 2 47s on same charter

1961-2011 - you certainly saw some changes! Best wishes.
Thanks for that video, Tim, despite the weather! Which is similar at the moment in Chatham!

Thank you - glad you enjoyed it. There's usually something worth capturing in the Citadel or nearby.
Thank you Tim, I enjoyed this very much.
Thank you - delighted to hear that.
A really great vid, thanks a lot for posting!
Thank you spectrumanalyzer - that's good to hear.

Tim haven’t heard from you since you’re last video in Scotland your video yesterday was very good
Hello Fraser. I'm afraid I've been unwell and have spent a couple of days in bed. Should be travelling to Glasgow tomorrow but not sure that I'll be up to it.
I really very sorry to hear that Tim get well soon
Good viewing again Tim, didn't half come down at Carlisle. Good location at Corby Gates.👍👍
Thanks David - it was a bit damp, wasn't it!
You’re video yesterday was very good hopefully you will get the drone up flying soon for filming the trains

I will look forward to seeing your next video Tim and hopefully it won’t be raining when you are filming a stream train
glyn thanks very good video tim
Thank you Glyn.

Ah! I had assumed that you were on duty at Appleby. Next weekend hopefully.

Missed that, I'm afraid.
a great day out for you tim and no umbrella
I did have one with me - just in case!
No name on that Black 5 ? Ever in it's history ? Very unusual ?
I understand that, out of the 842 Black Fives built, only four ever carried names.
Why was the other Steamer cancelled ? Tangmere at it again ?
Not enough tickets sold, probably.
