I have been shooting archery for over 40 years and if "I" could go back and change one thing it would be to never shoot anything over 60lb. My ability to draw a bow is quickly coming to an end. Back then we needed 70 and 80lb bows to get any kind of reasonable speed and trajectory. That is no longer the case given the efficiency and speeds of today's bows. We are all bullet proof when we are younger, then the truth sets in and it is to late.
Oh believe me. I've shot very little with it and won't continue with it after this year. HA!
Keeping your muscles strong will allow you to pull a bow later into life.
@@scubaseppy agreed!! Few talk about staying strong. They'd rather just say lower the poundage then try to justify it. Hahaha, that type of mentality tells you all, really.
@@scubaseppy Not entirely correct. I am active duty military and have done PT twice a day for many years. Strength is only on small part of the equation.

I bought a thumb button release a few months ago to help with my trigger panic . Loved how it felt until one day at half draw the bow decided to rip the release out of my hand and launch it across the yard . Let’s just say that cured my trigger panic and am back to the index release and shooting a lot better lol.
Im shooting the same sight this season only mine is the grey model also I measured the 20-30 gap with a caliper and put a dot on the post with a paint marker so now I have 20 and 30 all I need here in pa for whitetail been loving it thus far
Love the Redline single pin and Redline Trio stabilizers, very accurate.
I had to start wearing bifocal glasses this year after having trouble seeing two pins where one should have been. I really struggled at first getting anything into a good group at 35 yds, having to change my anchor point and peep height so I could see through the peep. I recently switched over to a single pin and have loved it. It is easier for me to find the focus, it opened up the sight picture, and felt like I lost that pin focus problem. I hope this works out for you--as I am sure it will.
Excellent bell 🔔 curve setup from the bow to the arrows. I am at 29.5 in draw and 65 lbs on my PRIME Black 3. I got new arrows this year in the Victory RIP TKO Gamers in 300 spine. It comes with a 60 grain outserts. I have the G5 Montec M3 100s on the front, before they came out with 125s. I decided to try out the DCA Custom Super Sabre vanes this year as my first arrow build instead of buying prefetch from Cabelas. With lighted nocks I would be around the same weight as you. Without lighted nocks I am 465 grains.
I did buy my PA license this year and I might be in north or south central PA on some public land since I couldn’t go out west again this year. 🏹🦌
I feel your pain with the astigmatism, i went to a single .010 pin to help with it myself. Blue, red and green seem to be the best for me. Im left eye dominant now too which makes it even more fun, nothing like throwing a monkey wrench in the system after 30yrs of shooting.
I love my Huntworth clothing!! If you talk to them, maybe suggest that a vertical Tarnen camo pattern would be absolutely KILLER!!!!!!!!! I had my Tarnen hoodie on tonight and wanted to see how it looked.. I did a dreaded selfie and it matched the tree well, but if it was vertical.... Oh boy!
I just got my v3x 29 in granite. Wt red and black custom strings. Hamskea epsilon rest made for mathews. Spot Hogg fast Eddie xl double pin sight in the bridge lock. Conquest control freak pro stabilizers wt the smacwrap tech a 10 inch in the front and a lower back bar wt a 8 inch. I am shooting Easton axis 5mm 340 spine. I am to shooting a thumb button this year a stan shootoff TL. The v3x 29 is fast and quite also dead in the hand.

My comment is aimed at your single pin sight. I myself switched to a single pin about 3 years ago after shooting multi pin my whole life. I'm 40 now and started with a bow around age 8. So lots of years with the multi pin but I have to say I LOVE my single pin sight. I've never shot any competition only bowhunting. I shoot a lot and at unusual distances while practicing so I can judge that distance in the field if I need to. Basically pin gaping with a single pin.
As far as the starburst I struggled with that even with my single pin at certain times of the day, until I switched it to a .010 fiber. Haven't had a problem since. Good luck to you this season brother and shoot straight!

I have definitely been liking the Deepower nocks, just got some last week. Night and day difference from the crap NAP nocks I had. They fit tight in my X size 5MM FMJ's, they grip my string well, but not too tight, they all worked out of the package, and the strobing ones are bright and I think will really help me find my arrow after a shot with the strobe effect.
Thanks for putting Huntworth on my radar. I have quite a bit of FirstLite gear, but as you said, it is stupid expensive. I don't mind paying extra for quality, but who wouldn't want to pay LESS for quality too?

Loving the Bloodline material on my SR6. I've had my set on for a year and it hardly looks worn. I've been really liking my double pin Spot Hogg, the clean picture of a single pin, but with a second reference (bottom pin sits at 35 yards when top pin is at 20). Still love my Stan Perfex thumb release.
I'm using a back bar for the first time hunting this year, and trying a couple mechanical heads for deer for the first time. First deer went down from a Tooth of the Arrow 1" solid. I've also got a Grim Reaper Pro 1-3/8 mech, Sevr 2.0, and TOTA XL solid in the quiver that I'm hoping to try.
One deer down so far this season. Only 11 more to go to tag out here in GA!
I am going to try that anchoring right off the corner of the mouth! 32.5 Draw, shooting an Atlas and I still feel it in my neck from leaning my head down to touch the string.

With your long DL and probably fast speed the narrow pin gap is causing the starburst issue I’m betting. Drop a few pounds and heavier arrows will open those pins gap. I will bet it will help and a smaller peep for 3-d? Maybe, hopefully. Got to try something.
I also got the deepower lighted x nocks, they seem to only be good for a few shots in my experience. Definitely going back to nocturnal. Best of luck this archery season.

Last summer and this summer I suffered vitreous fluid detachment in my eyes
Now I have floaters everywhere to the point it’s affecting my shooting bad enough that I’m getting target panic very frustrating considering just prior to it happening I could shoot 1 inch groups at 50 yrds
Eye doctor says “ live with it” 😢

Good luck with all that has been on your plate with filling your freezer with some deer meat. Cannot wait for the new Huntworth clothing review. Being Type 2, I really get cold easily and really looking at options this year. Cannot believe some of the Sitka and other brands are up to half a grand for certain items.

I don't want to be picking a pin or moving a pin during crunch time. I shot a single fixed vertical pin (or crosshair) for 34 years. I switched to the EZ-V sight last year, & I don't see myself going back to a pin in a hunting situation. Sadly, my eyes are as old as I am. Rather than focus on some stupid fuzzy looking pin, I focus on my target. Use a large peep that you can center the EZ-V into, and your left to right shots are dead on. I added electrical tape strips to each side of the top of V (marking the top of the first tick marks). That made the V smaller, & that makes the V even more efficient/fast for me to use. I haven't touched my rangefinder since last spring turkey season. I practice for months without knowing the distance of any shots. I instinctively know what I can or can't do. I don't need to confirm that with a rangefinder any more. A movable pin would be my last choice for a hunting situation. In most situations, I am pulled back long before I know the shot will actually take place. It could end up being a 15 yard shot or a 30 yard shot. I don't want to be guessing where my pin is set at!!!! I've never walked up to an animal & shot it like a 3D shoot. I have one doe in the freezer this year already, but in this case I shot her within a few seconds of seeing her. A quick "frame it/claim it " did the trick. I didn't even have time to stand up on my treestand platform. She almost got past me, because of all the leaves still on the trees. In all honesty, I learned some things about the EZ-V from your past clips, too. Good luck to you this season!
Hey Nate that is a really nice bow. Iv never herd or Athens archery are they something new. Been shooting Mathews for a dozen years or so and love them but like everyone says there pretty heavy I’m used to that now but that Athens looks a lot like an elite. I like it though good looking bow. Seems like u always are on top of the latest things on the market. I also like to see how you find things that might be considered maybe on the budget side of thing a little bit but sacrifice nothing in quality. Deff gonna be checking out those redline sights to!

Your ability not to sweat some of your archery choices is due to your awesome draw length. I can shoot both 27.5 and 28 inches accurately. I choose the longer draw length for the added performance. Shooting nearly 31 inches accurately would be a dream. I could choose 60 pounds of draw weight and have comparable performance to what I achieve now at 70 pounds. Good luck this fall.

Thanks for the review of your gear list for this year. I have not had much luck with the Nockturnals. Dead out of the package, variable performance, or not wanting to turn off. Have you checked out the NuFletch Ignitor lighted nocks? I LOVE them. I have had a few dead out of the package, but you can replace the batteries very easily. My only complaint so far is that they don't have a good option for the G sizes. I'm shooting Vector arrows this year, but will probably switch to something else next year so I can use the Ignitors.

Running a single pin really isn’t a big deal. I remember being worried about not having time to adjust it. I set mine on 30 yards and gap for anything less. My 30 setting hits a few inches high point of aim point of impact at 20. Worst case scenario I don’t have time to range but know the deer is between 20 and 30 if I hold lower 1/3 the shot is going to be effective. obviously depending on your sighting factors things might be a bit different but I’ve mentioned it to other people and they all seem to be in the same boat. If it’s over 30 or looks far I have time to asses the situation range and adjust or decide not to shoot. You can use a single pin just like your set pins and gap just as effectively.
So you didn’t use the ARD sight? Why not? What’s the final feedback?

I have found the Buzzcuts/Stingers to be some of the quietest heads on the market, period. Not that the hornet/serrazor are super loud! It's just tough to beat a Buzzcut.
I’m gonna bet you go back to the index. I also have glasses and vision issues and have to run a single pin because I get both star burst and also a halo from all the pins in a fixed pin site. I’m 60 and wear progressive lenses which doesn’t help and are def in your future lol. All those hinge and thumb release put the string just a little more off my face which makes it harder to align through the peep to the site especially as dawn and dusk. An index allows me to have a more straight line view through and to respectfully. Also, with the single pin your gonna have to lower your anchor as you move the pin to keep the site centered in your peep. Doesn’t sound like much but trust me executing a good shot with a moving anchor is much easier with the index release. I can’t do it with a hinge or thumb which I both shoot with back tension. My arm just doesn’t rotate straight back at longer ranges and I pinch the d loop and torque the bow and get horrible arrow flight and accuracy. No such issue with the index. Can you give me a few options you would start with for someone looking to get into archery on a budget under 1k? Adult male, looking to possible hunt with it at some point if possible. Shops around me won’t measure draw length unless I’m buying a bow so I’m going to guess around 30”. But now exactly sure.

What made you decide on going with a left helical? Mostly you hear right helical just so I doesn't loosen brodheads. And I shoot the wasp boss almost like the dart but don't count out there Jak hammer or the Jak knife they are comparable to the reapers in alot of testing vids. Good luck out there.
I've shot both left and right. Currently my jig is set for left, it has worked, and I'm too lazy to flip it back to RH. LOL

Right eye. Double vision settled in over the years.
It is strange why you have stars on your sight. I suspect that your eyes are overcorrected. Did you get new glasses this year or new contacts.
It's called an astigmatism. Causes light to be directed in a funky way.

interesting to hear that "fletchings steer broadheads". im sure you spend more time tuning than most & being a long arm shooter i know you probably cant afford to trim any length off of those Chinese arrows; just wondered if you tried standard nocks that would be lighter weight, better foc, more forward stabilization, etcetera. I understand you're achieving additional rear drag by increasing the vane height, but more than likely its masking the issue. I personally have never had lighted nocks provide enough consistency beyond 40yrds but nothing is less forgiving than a long broadhead like a magnus with a slightly weak spine.
This year i put additional emphasis on all my gear & where it comes from. Athens Vista 31 predator deception 70.5#, Easton Sonic 6mm 250 w/ 75gr brass, 125gr VPA & Sever Ti 1.5"....505gr, 15%FOC, 265fps. single 10"micro beestinger, tightspot quiver. At 44 & shooting with my weak eye i personally find a larger sight ring & a accommodating peep sight allows me to focus best, But to completely eliminate the pin glare the Clarifier is the only option. Currently running a 5/16 peep & a Sword whitetail hunter. For me 2 pins is ideal as i prefer no clutter. this year its a 30 & 40 only.

Ever shoot a broadhead without fletchings? Yeah.....fletchings steer broadheads.
@@averagejackarchery Yes i have actually but I don't recommend anyone looking for consistency attempt it,lol. I've always looked at it that a broadhead goes where it's pointed. If it's weak shafted, if it's wobbly on the spin test, if nock travel isn't ideal, or if it's profile is large then it's less likely to respond with any type of consistency because it's traveling off course before the shaft can recover from paradox. Fletchings create drag & ideally spin to stabilize a shaft quicker. A stiff shaft although less forgiving recovers much faster minimizing the rudder effect a broadhead has before paradox recovery. In fact fetchings can not fix a weak shafts amount of paradox but they can shorten its time required to recover. Large profile vanes are designed to create more drag than the broadhead they follow. The stiffer Bohonings are designed to stay rigid during acceleration & provide the quickest stability possible. While I enjoy a helical as much as the next guy; if you find yourself blaming a vane for your poor broadhead flight consistency it may be time to reevaluate your shaft selection. A 3" vane is typically double the surface area of a broadhead so even fletched straight should provide enough stabilization. I'll leave the negative effects of lighted nocks on low foc setups for a different lesson. Ultimately personal preference, you do you of course but from a educational perspective please don't confuse your followers by saying things like "fletchings steer broadheads" nothing could be further from the truth.
This is a 300 spine arrow. 125 grain point. Cut to 30.5". It's the exact selection required for this application. Literally every spine chart agrees.
@@averagejackarchery understand; although in my experience most of them are weak. If my selection changes if I add 5# or 25gr then I go with the stiffer shaft. Everything suggests I shoot a .300 too but if I put in just 2# heavier it bumps me to a 250. Last year I was able to cut 1/2" off of my length to increase stiffness and save me having to drop a few pounds of DW. This year I stepped up to the 250 & although it's a different bow all the set-up numbers were the same. I realize you don't have the luxury of cutting off 1/2" of arrow to stiffen it up. So the only way is to either step up in spine,down in tip weight or drop bow weight. I know it seems ridiculous that we can't simply read a chart & be good but it's taken me a long time to realize that charts are only a ballpark figure for a starting point not the gospel.

New to archery so I just ordered that release since I really don't like a wrist strap. Have the prices on releases always been this high? I'm asking because I've been shooting guns for years and prices have been through the roof since covid hit.
