    What did you guys think? I enjoyed the project but man it can be frustrating when things don't go as planned.

      Chain a bit long. Did you have to use such large rings?

    • @ThyialIndustries
      @ThyialIndustries  Год назад +1

      @@Carlosization1 yes chain was long, and since I made the rings, I was limited by the diameter of the roller

    Not quite blacksmithing. More of basic metal working. But not too shabby 😉😁👍
    Great video and nice sets of wooden and metal nunchucks you made.

    I think this is your best video ever, I love the story of the video. The wooden nunchucks look the same as the one I made before, but still cool. The metal ones look amazing but look hard to control when using them. Also I think you need a work table at home and for the brass caps you could have bought them, but I know they would have cost a lot more.

      @ThyialIndustries  2 года назад +1

      Thanks John. The metals ones are. definitely a lot heavy lol maybe with some practice I can get them under control. I would love a work table at home, to bad I live in an apartment lol 😂😂

    Knowing the metals you used for this project, and knowing the velocity and inertia common to nunchuku attacks, I have to ask you if you thought through the ,aerials you choose? I only say that because I've seen an aluminum bat broken on someone's face, so I know the trade of strength for weight is questionable, and I think that after a few hours or so of rotating would be more than enough for your spinners to heat up and quickly deform the soft metal brass, I've only ever seen spinners made from steel and welded metal links.
    Structural speaking, hollow tubes are more sound than solid rods, so maybe steel pipe would be a better choice over aluminum rods. Wood only works as well as it does if it's a hardwood and because it is hollow (inside the cells and between the fibers).
    I only say any of this criticism because the strength and weakness of the final result would easily verify my statements if you were to put them through some vigorous continuous use, we tend to train with such weapons for hours on end, making durability a major factor to consider, especially if the soft brass warps so easily during fabrication.
    I make and use custom nunchuku, different styles and materials, and I have to say that pvc is one of the best choices, easily cut and drilled, strong enough for constant rotation and speed, and easily replaced. You can even heat it and form it into different shapes, like the 8 sided training weapons we see sometimes, or weight it with epoxy or clay or whatever to make it more solid. I've even added threading to the ends of nunchuku for screwing in various end pieces, including 100 gram brass weights, long heavy bolts, spiked balls, and blades even, all of which were dangerous and fun, but remember to be careful, and thanks for making this video and sharing it with us, I Learned from it, and I know you and others did too

      Materials * you chose

      I'll do my best to answer
      1. I thought about materials. But what it came down too was the availability, price and timing. The brass and aluminum was free and already at my place of work. I had to buy the wood because of the point I was trying to make.
      2. Maybe steel tubing would be better but maybe it's too heavy? Plus rust
      3. I think the brass will be plenty strong. today brass is used in high torque high friction applications like gear reduction for power transmission. The cold rolled swivels? Ehh probably not the best choice, especially after heating them up.
      4. Don't know if you picked up on it, but I was going to make another set out of HDPE/ UHMW very good plastics to use which today are used in a lot of high wear applications like dry bearings. yes I agree some type of plastic would be best. PVC though? Maybe not. when it gets cold or weathered it becomes brittle. Cheap and easy to work with though.
      5. I think a destructive test would be interesting. All in all, I wasn't really going for a NASA grade pair of nunchucks, more of something that was fun to make and looked cool.
      Thanks for watching and engaging! Glad to see there are a few people with a higher interest in these videos.
      Maybe post some of your nunchucks? I'd check it out.

      Ohh and the chain I used? Lol way over kill. The chain is too long and heavy to make it functional.
