    What's worse than finding a security tag on a piece of clothing as you're coming home from the store? Finding a security tag on your piece of clothing that you bought online.

      It will work if you use 2 forks. Get it started with 1 then once it’s started keep the first fork in it and take the 2nd fork and insert it upside down between 1st fork and tag to pry apart.

Right now I have the stem of artificial flowers jammed in the thing trying to move the latch. It loosens but falls short of opening ☹️ so frustrating. Thanks for showing me how it was made . Thanks for showing how the mechanism works for those tags where a magnet won't work at the 9:29 mark. I was able to file down and bevel the end of a cheap wire coat hanger and insert it into the hole. After a bit of wiggling the hanger for a few seconds, I was able to unlatch the sides from each other. This took me about 10 minutes total I would say, so add this to your list for the tags that don't work with magnets.

    Thanks so much! I tried the sledge hammer method. Before I watched this video, I damaged a cardigan but hammering the front part of the tag. But I did the same (hitting it on the side) as you did in your video and after struggling for a few minutes I got it off a pair of sweatpants lol! It has a couple of tiny knicks in it but nothing noticeable. My uncle works at a warehouse where if a forklift operator drops a box (clothes, shoes anything in the box) they’ll label it as damaged goods and throw it away; so they ask them if anyone wants anything before it gets tossed out.
    Don’t you just love how people make assumptions about items being stolen and such? Lol!! I guess what they’ll never understand is that things like this happen all of the time, whether it’s from an in store purchase, online, from a flea market etc. thanks again for you video ☺️

    WIRE HANGER FTW!!! I went and bought a magnet but saw this video pointed out the hole. My magnet did not work and needed something else. I tried the sledgehammer trick but was worried about messing up my item-ski goggles.

    It took me 10 seconds to remove it with a flat screwdriver! A lot less than I spent watching these videos...Simply just put the screwdriver in the hole (where he sticks the hook-like metal "device") and brake plastic. Once the whole tag starts to split, you open it up like a shell. Easy as pie.

    Thank you. My mom-in-law bought hubby two pairs of shoes at JCPenny. One pair they removed the tag, the other they didn't but we didn't realize that. Never set off any alarms when we left the store either, so we had no idea. Wish it would have, as it would have been removed then. He wore pair number one for a few months before taking out pair number two. Then we saw the tag but his mom already burned the receipt in her fireplace over the wintertime by then. We asked them at JC Penny to remove the tag and they wouldn't remove it without a receipt, which was no longer in existence. It was very frustrating since it was some employee's fault it was on there. As I was watching this video, I began wiggling the shoe against the side of the tag (this worked since the shoe is thick and sturdy) after seeing you prying here and I was doing it mindlessly, still watching the screen. Next thing I knew the tag was apart! I would never have known to do that though if it hadn't been for your video. Your part 1 video is good too, but I'm glad it just popped off and I didn't have to burn it. The magnet didn't work for me - probably not strong enough. Everyone who says just to pay for it...sometimes spacy cashiers really do forget to remove tags and they don't set off the stupid alarms, which would actually be helpful if they did in these instances when people actually have paid for the items. And since these tags usually would set off alarms, I have no idea who would even try to steal things with them on there anyway. It has to be rare instances when the alarms don't go off. For those who really have paid and have the receipt right then, the alarm sounding would be a big help.

  • @Avaholic1977
    @Avaholic1977 Год назад +9

    Can confirm: there is no ink in the two tags demonstrated in this video. They run off spooled copper wiring similar to proximity (HID) badges. Which is why they don't always trigger at the door. You have to be walking fairly close to one side or the other. I took apart one after the magnet method worked and there was a spooled copper wire with what looked to be a tiny button capacitor attached to it. Besides this and the metal mechanism showed here, there were no other parts (or room) for an ink resivour.
    Thanks a lot for the demonstrations!

    I used a pair of vice-grips on a 'Kohls' tag and gradually squoze the main part on its sides until it was able to be pulled apart. Much more controllable than the hammer method. Then the pin can be easily seen and cut with diagonal cutters. One spring, a little thimble looking thing, and 4 tiny ball bearings shot across the room. So wear glasses! Zero material damage. @@StevesRealWorld I re-watched your video :)- my brother brought VERY strong magnet; it didn't work, but fire method worked great. I think it depends on the type of device on the garment (maybe mine was smaller) but he didn't have any trouble at all with fire. A small spring popped right out and presto - all ready to wear. Thank you so much!!! PS...I get a little nervous for your glass top stove. LeAnn won't be happy if you break that:)!

    • @StevesRealWorld
      @StevesRealWorld  2 года назад

      Oh - That's an actually security remove hook - it normally goes on a tag remover "Gun", I think I got it from Ebay years also. It only works on a few tags. I like the FIRE or magnet way better - Thank you for your comment!

    Instead of burning the tag to get the guts out, how about heating up a sharp utility knife, or box cutter, until it's glowing hot? Once it's heated, jst slide the sharp end of the knife at the base of where the tit starts & push it thru. If it stalls half-way, heat it up & try again until it cuts/burns all the way thru. No soot mess, no black marks.

    The magnet is the intended way to remove these Checkpoint security tags but you need a strong (probably neodymium) magnet. If the magnet doesn't work for you, it's probably just not strong enough. If you don't feel the magnet clearly attracted to the head of the tag, get a stronger magnet. I tried it with 5 1 cm long neodymium magnets and they weren't strong enough. But I grabbed magnetic hook that uses a 3/4" neodymium magnet and it worked immediately. Put the "head" down onto the magnet (even tapping it down onto the magnet can help) then pull the needle out. If you've recently been yanking on the needle as most people do to try and remove it, you may want to initially push the needle back in a bit to "unseat" the ball bearings inside and free them to be attracted to the magnet. But you should feel them jump to toward the magnet and then the needle will come free.

      YES, did you watch part #3 - It shows the Magnet methods - the easiest way, but most people do not have a magnet strong enough. One of my Aquarium pump magnets is strong enough and I show a few others. Part #3 - ruclips.net/video/Ibnvp8vCLRs/видео.html

    • @eleghari
      @eleghari 2 месяца назад

      "initially push the needle back in a bit to 'unseat' the ball bearings" 👌
      Very important...otherwise you are strengthening their hold on the pin...the more you pull the pin, the tighter their grip gets. Pushing the pin makes the bearings move freely thus less (magnetic) force is required to free the pin...

    Do the tags with the hole in the end have dye? My son had a gift given to him last Christmas and the tag was not removed. It was from Belk's. He messed around and never got a receipt or took it back because it was an ex gf and he was being lazy, lol. Thanks in advance.

    I got the tag removed! What I did was pushed a fork between the nailhead and the fabric all the way up to the bar. Then I used my wood burning tool to cut pie slices off and the fork protected the fabric from burning and melted plastic. After all of the nailhead plastic was removed I could cut the nail itself. There’s a funny shape on top that would probably make a bigger hole in the fabric if you don’t cut it. The trouble with that blanket was that the faux fur seemed to be super glued to the nail. I had to leave some fur behind but it’s invisible to the overall appearance. I’m sure a regular fabric would have been fine.
