- Watch the next Tough Airports video here: • Flying into Tough Airp...
We’re at FlightSafety International’s Teterboro learning center to spend some time in a Falcon 900EX level D simulator to learn about how to fly into some of the toughest airports in the world.
These airports are difficult to fly in and out of because of high terrain surrounding the airports, challenging local weather conditions, and constraints on engine-out departure and missed-approach procedures.
FlightSafety’s Aspen course, which includes an online ground school and simulator training, takes about 4 hours. In this video, we’re going to practice some of the maneuvers covered in the FlightSafety training, including a missed approach after an approach to Aspen.
If you missed them, check out videos about Chambéry, France ( • Flying into Tough Airp... ), and London City in the UK ( • Flying into Tough Airp... ), and Kathmandu, Nepal ( • Flying into Tough Airp... ).

How cool to watch these approaches from the simulator...for 30 years I maintained ASE LOC, PKN LOC and ASE DME...as well as most of the Colorado Mountain airport NAVAIDS. This gives even more relevant to what I did as a career...best job in the world.
Please make this a regular series!!!! Looking forward to Paro and Lukla!!!
We've got a couple of other airports filmed, so there will be more in the future. Thanks for watching!
First simulator of any type I've seen that didn't look like MS flight simulator on Windows 95.
Thank you very very much...Fly safe always...Merry Christmas and Happy New Years....
Now that must be challenging 😀
03:10 Shots FIRED! Going Around!
Check out Bhutan airport that’s also quite challenging?
A pilot should spend more time in simulators like this to practice all kinds of scenarios. Technology at its best!
Wasn't the final approach way too steep? VASI didn't seem to show 2 red 2 white, wouldnt this be reason to go around?
Seemed to show 4 whites. In real life, definitely a go-around.
That's a good question, Bernhard. The PAPI on final approach is set at 3.5 degrees. I probably came in higher because it's such a steep descent needed after breaking out. After flying this approach a few more times, I think I could dial in the PAPI a little better, but the approach did feel quite stable in the last moments.
There’s a Note 11, On chart 11-7... “A 4.55° descent angle intercepts 3.50° PAPI angle....”. I’ve heard 4.5° adjustments, so it might contribute to get (a little) higher...
Nice vídeo at all! Congrats for posting it! 👍🇧🇷
Wow. Does a 4.55 slope feel like divebombing?
He was at 50 ft about the Captain's bars. They had already burned well more than 1000 ft. of an 8006 ft. runway. TOGA!
not a very stabilized approach.....they were at 200ft over the threshold.
terrible terrible landing..... please don't promote this kind of sloppy flying even if it's a simulator.
