Flying into America’s Dangerous Airport on Aero, a Semi-Private Jet

- I joined my flight instructor Tex, who recently got hired at Aero; a luxury all First Class "semi-private" jet company. We flew together to Aspen, Colorado, known as one of the most challenging and tough airports in the U.S.
Aspen/Pitkin County Airport is 7,820 ft in elevation. For most aircraft operations, aircraft must land to the south but take off to the north.
The Aero Embraer 135 has been fitted with just 16 First Class seats in a 1-1 configuration. It has its own FBO at Van Nuys and you can arrive at the airport as little as 20 minutes before the flight. Find out more about my flight on Aero and the unique approach into Aspen Airport in the video.
What i really like about Sam's videos is the variety of subjects that he offers, from flying in an aid plane in east africa to flying in the finest private jets the Industry offers, from attending an air show in North Korea to a visit to a catering facility in Switzerland, from attending a cabin crew training session at Emirates facility to a visit to the largest planes graveyard in Arizona.. and that what makes him different than other aviation RUclipsrs/Geeks. Thank you Sam.
Thank you. Much appreciated. I enjoy exploring all aspects of commercial aviation.
@@SamChui You are the only one to reply as of now and i thought others would be repling by now
@@SamChui and we like it too, and you are our tour guide for experiences most of us are not able to have, for which I thank you.
All the while turning fossil fuel into CO2.
Sam, if you’re ever in Colorado again, I highly suggest flying to North America’s highest commercial airport. The airport is located in Telluride, Colorado, just south of Aspen. The only commercial service is provided by an airline called Denver Air Connection (DAC). The airline serves Telluride using a Do328 Jet, and the airline has possibly hands down the best snack service for such a short flight or just snack service in the USA. I’m glad I’m able to call Colorado my home, and a goal I have is to fly to every commercial airport in the state amongst others. Enjoy Colorado, it certainly has a lot to offer.
When I saw this video I immediately thought no it’s definitely telluride (KTEX)
@@CbM-L322 While KTEX is slightly less dangerous, it’s still as unique as Aspen if not more
This looks like nothing compared to flying into Telluride. How is Aspen more dangerous? Anyone know?
@@wesleyp8566 it has regular jet service
Honestly, I was getting stressed out lately, and watching your videos always calm me down!! Keep up the good work!! 😇
My dad is one of the top people in the world for landings in aspen. It’s a challenging airport for sure which is why he loves it so much!
Back in the day, Aspen Airways flew from/to Denver’s Stapleton with Convairs. Puke bags were in high use as the route was subject to turbulence and wind shear. No glass cockpits..just steam gauges and pilots with nerves of steel!
Yup and that’s why it was called Aspen Scareways.
From the beginning to the end of the program, I saw everyone's enthusiasm and the beauty of the scenery. At the same time, this is a beautiful plane. Thank you, Sam.
Aero seems like a great company. Worth the extra ticket price. In these days of cancelled flights, they will probably thrive.
your videos get me excited for the day man keep them up!
Yeah Sam I really enjoyed flying with you today, thanks a zillion man, your videos are so calming and refreshing
Ooh, great to finally see an Aero review. I see them all the time since I go to school by van nuys airport.
just realizing this video is 2 years old when writing is but isnt this charter essential the same thing as JSX but double or triple the price?
@ Yeah its basically the same as JSX, they even use the same planes. The main difference is its even more private than JSX and roughly double the price. A flight from LAX to Cabo on JSX is around $1,000 and on Aero from Van Nuys (A private general aviation airport in LA) is around $2,000-3,000.
@@The_la_spotter Dang! Thanks for the info.. so for a bit more space, wild.. Saw this plane in Van Nuys and the outside caught my eye.. Love JSX not sure Id use this for that amount :) Appreciate the repsonse
Thanks for the latest video, you're living a life a lot of us aspire to but very few will achieve. You're obviously a very successful and busy businessman so I really do appreciate the extra hours you put in to provide us with a quality production, it really shows your passion and genuine enthusiasm for flying. Have a great summer.
Dude it’s august
This is his business too, lol.
Thank you. Never view it as a business as it is a hobby. I try to get on interesting flight with a purpose to vlog and share that experience
@@SamChui Try to fly to Svalbard sometime, something new for ur channel =)
Sam, your videos are so relaxing. After fixing my database issue, I switched on to your channel and it really refreshed me
Just a wonderful short flight thank you Sam.
I remember several years ago flying into Aspen in a Cessna 172 out of Breckinridge, which is over 9000 feet amsl ( which is North America’s highest altitude airport). Both the descent into Aspen and climb out had to be done within the airfield boundary which made life interesting in a relatively low powered aeroplane. Thank goodness I had a local instructor with me which gave me lots of confidence and some great experience in mountain flying.
I remember in the mid 80’s a 707 ( or that size passenger jet) had an emergency landing at aspen. In those days only private jets or “dash sevens” could take off in the thin atmosphere. So it had to be trucked down hwy 82. I loved flying to Denver in those old prop planes. Just magic
It's just like the Kai Tak airport in HK , coming in over the valley and houses, and when you land it's water lapping at your plane( it just looked like it) , way back in 1978 on a business trip with Singapore Air., just love Sam's enthusiastic voice when he likes something he has seen out the window. Keep up the great work Sam Philltheflyer (Australia)
I love your videos because there are really inspiring and unique. Like he goes from first class review to dangerous missions and even cargo aids and makes documentaries. Thanks for making videos
Dude, you are having way too much fun! I'd be grinning ear to ear the whole way! BTW, love the black livery on the jet. That looks amazing.
I have only flown into Aspen in the Pilatus simulator but have flown the actual airplane into Telluride, elevation 9000 feet. Pilots did an awesome job landing in a very challenging airport, this from a retired airline pilot.
Love all your videos, thanks for all the content!
That's a good looking plane and beautiful Aspen. Memory of touching in at Paro Airport in Bhutan! Thanks Sam!
Very nice of your fellow passenger to take on a little planespotting drive around the airport. 👏
Man, we love your unusual journeys. Thanks for another awesome video! ✈
Oh Sam, I've been watching all of your videos, I have several flights coming, and im afraid of flying, haven't done it since 2016, suddenly out of nowhere I developed a fear of planes after coming down of one... your videos are helping me to get use to flying again, I envy your good attitude up there, because I just can't enjoy being on a plane. Thank you for your good videos, always smiling and giving us a good experience. Hope some day I can enjoy flying as you do.
Hi stranger, just came across your post. We share the same fear. I developed my fear a few years back, and I haven't flew between 2019-2021. But the more you fly again, the less you worry about it. I just finished a 14 hour international fly and it was a lot better than I imagined. You can do it too, good luck.
@@yangdai3751 Hi! Thank you, i don’t have a long one, but I have 6 flights in the next couple of months because of the layovers to get to my destination. I’m doing, reading and learning everything i can to bare with this. Thank you for sharing your experience with me.
Great video, nice airline with beautiful planes!! Also the crew with smiles on their faces!! I need to fly with them!
Whats the name of the jet..its really beautiful..any idea on how to get a die cast model like 1:100 with movable parts.?
And the name of the airline too
So Amazing I loved your Collab with +AIRLINE VIDEOS
Amazing landing. Thank you Sam for sharing. Be safe
I was spotting at ASE earlier this month, seeing Aero come in on 15. Now I am glad to see what their interior is like and the approach everyone has to do.
smoothest landing i've ever seen !
Fantastic scenery and a wonderful video.
Well done bro.
Keep it up.
As always, this video excites me. It's so good that I feel like I'm being satisfied through your video for a dream I couldn't achieve. :)
Damn, Aspen is so picturesque!
Nice! that black airplane looks awesome!
I loved how you only showed a few seconds of the landing in Aspen: I would have just over-used so much footage for the landing, but you did SO EXCELLENT!!! I REALLY ENJOY LIVING VICARIOUSLY THRU YOU, SAM🤠🤠🤠🤠
My favourite channel well done
Looks like a fun approach!
Very amazing trip experience👍, Sam
Beautiful vlog I love airplane and you
Loved the scenery of the airport. Never been to Aspen but I have been to Denver and it is very pretty.
Oh I love that us coast guard c-37A at 10:28

It's Aero flight 😍 Thanks great video.
I just flew in and out of Phoenix Sky Harbor and that scenery was AMAZING

Good video!
Great video sam chui greeting from sweden
We saw you! Thanks for showing off our 7X on the front row at ASE!!! :-)
What a crazy descent. I will do plane-spotting there to get perspective.
It's nice seeing Rooster 😊
The SIC is 🔥🔥🔥
It's cool to see some of these niche airlines doing well.
NiCE Video sam!
Wonderful video, beautiful plane! Congrats Sam!!
Beautiful vlog beautiful journey 🌹
I remember Eastern Airlines the first time in 1964.. I got a filet mignon steak baked potato sour cream and chives vegetables a choice of drink..WOW... I was in Heaven back then today..🛬🛫🚀🛸 commercial airlines you're lucky if you get stale bag of pretzels to be on that Airline and get treated that way that's the way it should be.. I have my own plane now it's not as big as a Learjet but it's definitely better than waiting in lines at airports for 2 to 3 hours.. and going through all the security beautiful Learjet...👍👏👏👏
Love the videos!
I really envy you life!!
Nice aviation footage.
A bag-o-turkey-jerky! Gotta love that Premium experience.
Wonderful location looks very busy....
Awesome to see, thanks guys 😎
I'm a proud aspen local!
The copilot is so handsome and hot!!! More videos with him, pls!
The 10,000 watt smile, the eyes, that jawline, jesus FUCK dude is beyond smokin. And that mustache - he knows exactly how hot he is too.
Omg the lounge waitress is stunning 😻
Clean windows ✌️
The best thing about these jets is that everybody gets a window seat!
Whats the name of the jet..its really beautiful..any idea on how to get a die cast model like 1:100 with movable parts.?

Great video....
Keep the vids up!
A nice shout out to the Biltong seen at the lounge 👍🏿👍🏿
Just wow!
love your videos
Already tried Sion in Switzerland? Very special approach...
I really enjoyed video thank you so much my beloved Sam 💟....
I live just to the east (Other side of the mountain range) and spend a lot of my off days in Aspen at the airport.
I went to Aspen back in 1975 when it was a small community.
The FA is a total cutie
most popular traval vloger in the world.
Exactly looks like a Bhutan paro airport 👍
Great video, I think Castlegar, B.C. YCG is more challenging, especially back in the day when we were flying 737s in there.
I ever ride United Express crj700 from San Francisco to Aspen when it's winter day in Colorado. And also I lived in Burlingame housing right next to the airport.
Thanks Sam great video and information

You should be a pilot Sam.
Your instructor is really handsome
Big Aero fan
The flight prices aren’t as crazy as I would expect
The plane that you flew on in the video use to fly for American Eagle N712AE. Use to be outfitted with 44 seats on the 135.
Wow🤩 amazing✈️
Great vlog Sam
Danger winds as St. Helena airport ? No problem! We have Embraer.
The only private flying is owning your personal jet yourself. Also, Aspen is a peach to fly into, practice is paramount. Cheers
