the halestorm version is the best without question, if you want another flawless cover from them david, their cover of heart's "all I wanna do is make love to you" is truly phenomenal.

I actually like the Rolling Quartz version the most. If I didn't know which was the original, I would have probably guessed that theirs was and that the other two took their overdone versions in 2 different directions. The Rolling Quartz version is the most straightforward and sounds the most real to me on first listen, while the other two both sound like something you'd get from big artists wanting to make it bigger and better. To me, the Halestorm version sounded the most lifeless. The instrumentation and performance sounded better than the Gaga overproduced digital sound, but it lacked the heart and conviction of Gaga's delivery. The original is good, very catchy and very well written, with great vocals from Gaga, and that chorus really hits. Yes, it's overproduced digital programming, but it's still fun to listen to. Unfortunately some of those lyrics do really make me cringe (la la, ga ga, baba yaga... etc)

Fair assessment. Of course Halestorm are battle seasoned warriors. VERY early Rolling Quartz when they first got together (note: no brilliantly colored hair). Jayoung's vocal performance has improved ten fold. Compare her performance here to "Fearless".

Sad, sad state of affairs that the Lady Gaga spectle is so popular. It does not speak well of pop culture. Halestorm's version seems to have a lot of unnecessary compression. Definitely better than the original but could be better. I am not as excited about it as you are. The Rolling Quartz performance is one of the first things they did as a band. I have seen more recent performances that are better. I am a little biased because I am a huge RQ fan. I would rather listen to RQ's version than either of the other two. But, I am wearing an RQ t-shirt as I type this. Bias.

Yea but, the views on all of Halestorm and Rolling Quarts videos combined don't compare with one Lady Gaga video. It's the state of music these days.

_Let's be honest here, Charles. This is the real reason why, right here, Rolling Quartz. This is the reason why you want to do this._
Actually, no, David. :-) The reason was exactly what I said in the intro: Your first reaction to Halestorm's cover, where the video and audio were so bad that you didn't even give it a rating. In the comment section of that reaction of yours, I made this comment 4 months ago:
_The real unfortunate thing about this is that there was a much better fan cam of the exact same performance._
_The person who made this request was sadly unaware and ended up requesting a reaction using the worst of the 2 fan cams that were posted of this performance._
_Watching this has actually given me an idea for a future reaction request._
And this request is that idea. :-) I included the Rolling Quartz's cover because they just so happened to have done their own cover of it, and you have done several reactions on them already, so why not include them, ya know?
In any case, I'm glad that you picked up on what Rolling Quartz did. Yeah, I agree that what they did was interesting, which was not to do a straight cover of Halestorm's take but to add in their own interpretation of the Lady Gaga original. Since you made mention of the lead singer of Rolling Quartz several times in this video, and you reacted to them several times also, I figured you should know her name which is Ja Young. In terms of her singing ability, yeah she's great but as I said in the intro:
_It should be noted, that Rolling Quartz posted their cover 9 months before they made their official debut_
so Ja Young has improved even more since then.
I appreciate you giving your many thoughts on all these different versions of the song. I thought it would make for a really cool video, even if you say Lady Gaga's original didn't stand a chance. But, I gotta admit, hearing all your insights and only seeing ratings of 5 stars kinda makes me wish you were using your usual out of 10 scoring system. It doesn't quite capture what you're saying, you know? So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you'll go back to the out of 10 scoring, because it does make me wonder what each song here really would've gotten from you.
By the way, that 3 minute rant or so that you gave starting at around the 26 minute mark with the whole "unleash the potential that was locked inside of it" and stuff was probably one of your more entertaining rants that I've heard!
And that line that you said at 22 minutes:
_Your battleship got sunk all right by a torpedo named Halestorm!_
Ha! That sounds like it could be a slogan for Halestorm or something.
Anyway, it is funny that you refer to Lady Gaga's original as a "little league team" when "Bad Romance" is actually one of the top-selling singles in history. That's a pretty impressive little league! That part where you were mocking Lady Gaga's "Ra, ra, ah-ah-ah, Roma, roma-ma" lyrics made me chuckle a little, but I believe that it helped the song since it's one of the things that people remember about it. You zeroed in on those lines too, so it obviously has an impact. However, that's just a small part of the lyrics, and it's the overall lyrical content that motivated Halestorm to create their cover, like I explained in the intro. As a self-confessed non-lyrics guy, you still picked up on Gaga's lyrics when you said that you felt that Halestorm's version really brought out the emotion of the lyrics. They did a fantastic job with their cover, but the fact that the lyrics stuck with even you means that Lady Gaga's version definitely works, even if the genre is not your cup of tea.
Even though you slammed Lady Gaga's original, I would be remiss here if I didn't mention that your reaction to her performing "Moth To The Flame" with Metallica on stage was one of those rare moments on your channel where a performance actually made you tear up. It's clear that her music might not be your favorite, but there's no denying she's an incredible artist when it comes to singing, songwriting, and putting on a show. When she went full-on Metal, she absolutely killed it, and your emotional reaction to her performance was a testament to that!
All in all, I enjoyed the video, so thanks, David!

As far as Lady Gaga goes, she needs to ditch Pop music and focus on Rock and Metal. Seriously, after seeing her perform with Metallica, I was shaking my head going Why doesn't she do this instead of Pop??? She's so good as a rock front woman, she really is.

@@THEDavidHeretic fun fact: before becoming "lady gaga", she was the frontwoman of a led zeppelin cover band lol. She's a rock & metal head at heart, but she chose synth pop in order to parody it initially... and that just kind of stuck as her main sound.

no, he did not. Halestorm was not Live. Pay attention. I believe you when you say Lady Gaga killed it Live - NOW.
She's a great singer and an unique artist - I hold Lady Gaga in high regards in the meantime. Gaga showed what she could do when she performed with Metallica or at the Oscars. But David was also right when he said that the Original was artificial and Lifeless. < I would really like to hear a re-imagined version by Gaga :-)

    • @AtomicCalm
      @AtomicCalm 5 месяцев назад

I would say the Haelstorm version has over the top compression, that just kills any dynamics and leaves it flat. Gaga's production was made for pop, not pop/metal. We all know she is exceptional live, so I'm trying to stick to the production value. Rolling Quartz was bottom of the pile for me... singing off pitch quite a bit@@ThielKlenner

Oh, i forgot to suggest it on the reflecting god reaction, it would be interesting to see a comparison between "kinderfeld" from antichrist superstar and the demo version - "smells like children". Kinderfeld is industrial but with a doom flair, while smells like children is very different structurally - despite having the same bass hook.
I personally prefer smells like children, but kinderfeld is produced better for obvious reasons. "Smells like children (studio version)" is the version on youtube with the best quality.

I'm kind of indifferent to the song, even the covers, but I do like the changes from Halestorm. In particular, they went to the half-time feel in the second part of the chorus, and then made it double-time for the last one. There's also a sneaky change in the beat just before the breakdown, where the snare switches to the 1 and 3.
The biggest highlight, though, was all the DH metaphors. 😆

I used to love Lady Gaga's version, and I still do enjoy it. But I've been ruined for purely digital music - same thing makes Taylor Swift's more recent music feel lifeless for me too. And a number of other artists. I just can't get behind a track with no instruments!
(T Swift actually just released some acoustic versions of her midnights songs - and I don't understand why the original choice was made. at all. they are worlds better)

Gaga has said that she writes her songs on piano - regardless of if pianos are involved in the song at all - because, as she puts it "a good song is a good song no matter what instruments you use"
If we're doing gaga, i would suggest "bloody mary". It has a nice haunted house feel to it.
