High density gardening in a small space for cheap. I'd say a success. Instead of purchasing nutrients you could use organic materials. For example figs raise ph and lemons will lower ph. Used as a tea with a bioculture even bird guano, worm casting, or even dead leaves would probably do. Anyway great job at a sustainable winter food source for critters.
Human urine from a healthy person in the right ratio to water, is quite good for plant growth. Since I plan to ingest it myself, I wouldn't want to use things like bird guano. Besides, my urine is free and constantly in supply.
If I might add a suggestion to anyone building this might think about adding red cherry shrimp for the algae. I'm not a seller but bought some for the algae on my porch fish tank now I have to add algae tablets to feed the little guys
Use a 100 watt Clear glass Yellow filiment L. E. D. Bulbs, are $4.80 each, at Walmart grow anything else with, a Natural Daylight Bulbs, old lamp fixtures, use pie pan for cheap reflectors
Is the set up expensive sir?. I'm trying to research their expenses. Since not also the vertical pool needed but also the daily light it cost. Have you look it up?
Just use a cement mixing tubs, spray paint off, White paint, wait two hours, spray paint again, let dry for 4 days, add water, and I do use the 5 - 15 gallon size aquarium water filters, at Walmart, make a tiny float in front of water fall, as Duck weed don't want any splashing sensytation, so make a floating tiny arm to keep, duck weed out of filter splashing water, fall. No filters in filter, unless charcoal, no fish, no snails, if you want to eat it raw, I eat daily
I salut you for the great job, I just started mine 2 weeks ago, with some guppy fish.. just for testing. do you add any chemicals in your case since no fish in the tank
5:34 he's hydroponically feeding it. So, same stuff they use to make lettuce. But he could use worms and dirt to grow the stuff bionics. bionic or aquaponic if he wanted to as well.
Duckweed and azolla are two very different plants, duckweed grows way faster than azolla. And yes you can feed duckweed to your cows its a great source of nutrition.
Have you thought of growing Tilapia? Tilapia provides the nutrients for the duckweed. Tilapia love duckweed and algae. Duckweed surplus for livestock. Can also eat the Tilapia.
I love this system, i hope i can do it in nigeria. I am azolla farmer and duck weed. Well done.
This looks awesome 🎉 definitely interested in setting something like this up after watching your video. Thanks for sharing.
This is such a great idea. ❤

Hi Will, thank you for the video
This is hilarious... here in Florida we can't get rid of this stuff fast enough and you folks are growing them inside your homes!
This stuff is edible for humans and it can be used for feeding fishes and chickens
just add Tilapia fish, they are the natural preditor of duckweed

I don’t know why, but it won’t survive in my aquarium. I spent $8 on some. lol. It’s all slowly turning white
@@MasteringSilence I should be selling duck weed on the Internet. I would probably get rich.

That is a nice setup.

can i use led as light source?
This could be a great source for biofuel as well
www.usda.gov/sites/default/files/documents/Duckweed_Factsheet.pdf
Nah it's water content is way too high
@@jessepaynter3752 the product used to make biofuel is dried first. Duckweed can have up to a 70% starch content to dry weight
