Exactly
Lmao true!

Basically
Roller Coaster Tycoon works too.
I love how he says it
"And the number one cccccccrEEpiest film is..."
_He does it every time_
yeet hitter he also says dark as DAAAHHHHKK
BaAAad
He’s Australian, that’s why he says Dark like that.
When 9 said "This world is ours now, it's what we make of it." That gave me chills.
This world isn't theirs anymore... it was never theirs to begin with.
But at what cost? How can you be so upset at the stichpunks dying, yet not care that they bascially ceased to exist just to revitalize the earth?
They were not, AT ANY POINT trying to get bacterial organism to get the cycle going. They were just trying to live.
There is no message of rebirth in 9! There is no life following thereafter. Because the stichpunks who died didn't get to go into the afterlife. They never got to continue to live, to think, to feel, to watch over those they left behind. They were used to bring back earth, without their knowledge or consent, and if they don't come back by the rain, or even live on as forest spirits (which would be actual rebirth) they will cease to exist. Their souls... splattered all over the clouds to nothing more than lifeless plant life. Plants can't think, can't feel, can't live.
Those were 9's friends, his family! He'll mourn them, miss them, and for the rest of his life, it'll just be... a silent world. Not to mention he wasn't even trying to sell their souls off to to die, but to go into the afterlife! He had no knowledge or consent of this either. He'll probably never see them again, not even in the afterlife! If he finds out the truth... he'll be horrified, heartbroken. It just goes to show that this world is not theirs... it never was to begin with.
That's not kind or respecftul at all! It's cruel, disrespectful, and manipulative! The lesson that as long as the earth comes back, it doesn't matter how its done, or who gets hurt, killed, or how many lives are ruined.
The real kindness and respect that came from 9... was that even in their bleak world and situation, they were still able to find happiness and life in their dead world, in themselves, and in each other. 5 was 9's best friend, his brother, his angel... 2 still loved this dead world in spite of it being... dead and saw the good in it. 3 and 4 too found happiness in books and loved to have fun, 6 was still funloving and easily amused, and all thorughout the film, there's surprisingly cute, happy or heartwarming scenes, and even a few instances, like when the cat beast is killed, or when they think the machine is killed, it shows that it's possible for them to live a happy nomral life in their dead world. That's true life, not lifeless plants, but the ability to think, feel, hate, and love in spite of if. True life is living in a dead world and there beings who live and feel like any other human, not a living world where there are no beings who live and feel at all. When the stichpunks were alive, their world may not have had a body but it still had a soul. When the stitchpunks died, the world gained a body, but lost the soul.
There is no dawn in the blackness... only blackness. The stichpunks being alive was their light.

When the wind blows kinda made my eyes water while watching this, sure maybe I’m just a big baby but it made me uncomfortable and a little sad and upset because you were literally watching an innocent elderly couple slowly die and become extremely helpless.
I don’t know if that’s just me but that’s just plainly depressing
You're not alone
I went and read the TV Tropes page and I came _very_ close to bawling my eyes out. Just...everything is so bleak. I felt helpless just reading about it.
its ok,it shows you have a heart, i mean im the same thing
I still remember watching the Christmas Carol in the movie theater as a child, being horrified by the hauntingly laughing skeleton turning to dust. To this day, I still have to skip that scene or look away to get nightmares
I honestly fell asleep at this movie cause I was so bored at the beginning😅
I also saw it in the cinema as a kid and I honestly couldn’t even watch the last half of the movie because I was scared of it

9. Toy story prototype
8. Haunted house on a whole new level
7. Scaring the crap out a old guy to make him like Christmas
6. Sausage party’s grandpa
5. are those puppets or corpses
4. 5 stages of grief at the end of the world
3. Aristo cats if directed by David Lynch

1. End of the world with horocruxs from Harry Potter
I like 9 I mean the movie

Nice
What if 1 is just a continuation of 4
Nightmare lol I agree with the first one
I think the creepiest aspect of When the wind blows is the animation of the sacks, there’s just something unsettling about it.
Why would anyone go to the trouble of bagging themselves so someone else won't have to before burying them? Heck with that idea!
Yes.
"9" as number 1 is an excellent choice. Also I see what you did there
Felidae is if Aristocats took notes from The Aristocrats.
Actually is how The Aristocats would look if it was a neo-noir thriller, made in the 90s, and combining Quentin Tarantino's blood and violence with David Lynch's surrealism.
Was it THAT disturbing?
I would actually call Felidae "The Aristocats on Drugs"
Ironically The Aristocats is mentioned in the film at some point
Gorgeous profile picture you've got there
I used to live in a world before knowing anything about Felidae... I miss that world... also YAY my suggestion made the list! My husband and I watched your #1 pick and couldn't take our eyes off of it. It was so disturbing yet mezmerizing!
Anime America i know you never talked about food fight but you can agree that it should be number 10 like you did with full metal alcamist on the WTF moment
Also im no its off topic but do you think that some of the cats in felidae look the three cats in sailer moon
Hi Robin! 😁
Anime America it’s one of its effects it’s creepy yet beautiful
Anime America whoa you watched felidae?
Holy shit, just by what was shown in this video about this movie "The wind blows" almost made me cry.
For me is not straight out creepy, but extremely sad. I think this feeling of "pretending everything is gonna be fine but it clearly isn't and we can do nothing about it" really gets me, especially the part where they jumped in the sacks. It almost makes me kinda sick.
literally just watching the short clips of when the wind blows made me almost cry its just... so disturbing
like i understand its message as its really important, but its just immensely unsettling and it leaves you feel empty

About that PG rating for “when the wind blows”. This was back when the PG-13 rating had been around for only about 2 years, and you could still get away with some REALLY dark stuff for a PG film.
I’m not really sure it that makes the stuff they do show in when the wind blows okay, but I wanted to give you some perspective on how things were back then.
Edit: One last thing, this was around the time when the Cold War was still a very serious threat, and there was a possibility we could all be Annihilated with just the push of a button.
Sometimes ratings change
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for darker material and I think it’s extremely important for younger kids to learn some of the darker elements of life early on so they can learn how to deal with them better and prepare for them. But no matter how dark the premise, how honestly it’s discussed, and how well it’s taught, there are limits. There are some things children should wait a little bit to fully learn about.

LOVE! the movie 9!
Granted I saw it when I was 10 and was already watching stuff like the nightmare before Christmas, coralline, and the corpse bride. scared but mostly amazed by the animation, story and the artistic approach. I don't have the exact words to describe what was a mix or fear, wonder and adrenaline on every cliffhanger, but once I saw 9 I just appreciated it. Still do.
9 is my favorite movie second only to kubo and the two strings! Both of these movies are masterpieces with gorgeous animation and wonderful narratives and messages
9 is so awesome
The Adventures of Mark Twain gives me a very deep Earthbound vibe. Seriously, the way Satan's mask/face morphs and twists reminds me so much of Giygas.
Yeah. I love it when a character is made unsettling by having an extremely unique design. Especially when you don’t really know what they are.
"Ahh the evil one!!" I lost it
Me too. LMAO
8:52 I actually think that duck is extremely cute. Daww how could anyone be scared of it. In my opinion, the humans are WAY more terrifying.

#1 I love Critic’s answer to Strider asking “How do you destroy these things?”

I watched 9 when I was 7. Let’s just say I got nightmares for weeks
Same here so I was 9 years old when I watched it not only was I inmediately traumatised by it I never watched that again even to this day

PhantomStrider: Foodfight
Doug Walker: *quickly bring out a shotgun*
Never saw it. What were they afraid of just then?
I've seen Critic's review of food fight. Poor guy.
Coraline was the first movie that ever scared me.
I fricking love Coraline. The one part that scared me was the Taffy Spink and Forcible. The jumpscare combined with the shreiks of "THIEF! THIEF!" just freaks me out.
Not gonna lie,Coraline could have warranted a PG-13.I mean, the "Other Mother" kills children for their love, that's pretty friggin' morbid in itself.
They inferred it, but never showed it. That's why it gets away with PG.

Yeah same. 9 used to give me nightmares for like months

I can't believe I forgot how creepy Felidae and 9 were! Also, what a surprise to see Doug here! Two of my favorite film reviewers in one video?? How amazing is that!?
Talking about creepy animation, there's one Mexican short film that scared me as a child: it's called "El Héroe" by Carlos Carrera. It played once in a while in a kid friendly tv channel. It has an unique animation style, each frame was painted with color pencils and it's about a lady that commits suicide in the subway. I remind you, this played on free television, in the kids' channel, during cartoon hours!! How dare they?? I'm watching The Moomin one moment, then ad break starts and suddenly creepy as heck short film! I was fascinated by it though, every time I caught it on I could't stop watching. Man, the art world is filled with all kinds of weird stuff isn't it!
Didn't expect to see you here :p
(I wish I had something better to say)
Hey gail rice
I've heard of Felidae, Coraline and such- not these others though/not counting Mark Twain of course. But i'm kinda suprised they didn't talk about Brave Little Toaster. *Does that count as animated though*? :3

Ikr if I was a parent I wouldnt let my kids watch these films at night
Well actully 9 is 12
Coraline: I'm the most horrifying kids film ever
9: hold my bacteria
9 isn’t necessarily a kid’s movie. It’s actually PG-13.
Larry Productions INC. No it’s Rated R.
... How disgusting. And hopeless.
The ending of 9 is not hopeful; it's beyond horrifying, and just cruel, and downright inhumane. This isn't about life going on; it's about destroying true life to bring back materialistic plants. The rest of the movie beforehand, showed, however, that you don't need plants to live; you need emotions, family, love, and souls. The ending just shattered that completely.
And unless the lost five can be reborn as nature spirits, like the kodama from "Princess Mononoke", 9 will have the biggest mistake, and regret, in his life, even worse than putting the talisman in the machine.

A Christmas Carol is supposed to be slightly creepy because the original book was.
That’s true even though it was a Christmas story, A Christmas Carol was the first time I heard about the novel by Charles Dickens and this film really shook to the core and it’s first creepy Christmas film I’ve ever watched, it’s mainly due to The Ghost Of Christmas Yet Come and the fact that I was 7 when it came out. A lot of people think that the animation creepy but I love this style of animation and the director of A Christmas Carol is the director of The Polar Express, my favourite Christmas film
I personally love the film for it's more accurate, creative, unnerving retelling of the original tale. Especially their portrayal of the ghosts- not many people remember that the Ghost of Christmas Present is rapidly aging and dying. Most people just retain the creepiness of the ghost of Christmas Future and make the rest cheery and light. But that's not what the tale was.
Also the lighting effects in the movie are really good to me.
Yeah I found that interesting to, most Christmas movies you see are either just cheery and happy, when in the book and it's Illustrations, Jesus Fucking Christ.

It's based on the Mysterious Stranger, so that Satan isn't THE Satan (he's a nephew IIRC).
yeah sure satan was an angel
Well in some versions of the Bible the devil was at one point an angel.
Bruh
Poor old Sergei Prokofiev’s turning in his grave at Peter and the Wolf, his glasses broke...😔
I remember, so well, watching the polar express as a child and being so confused about wether it was real or animated. Like it literally couldn’t tell if it was real or not because it looked like real people, and I as a child didn’t understand why anyone would choose to animate something realistically, rather than just do it live action. Even my child mind knew that animation often cost more than live action. idk just some random thoughts.
Same,that puppet part scared me.
I love the polar Express
The realistic animation style makes much more sense with CGI characters in (majorly) live action films and video games which want to be live action.
Characters such as Thanos, The Incredible Hulk, Gollum, Darkseid, Steppenwolf, and the Na'vi could not be done in live action without looking awkward and cheap.
They were going to make Gollum an animatronic but they instead made him motion capture CGI so he could act on a set (making it easier for the live action Frodo and Sam to act) and because Andy Serkis acted very well not just with his voice but with his body language as well. It would also make it easier for a flashback to a pre-One Ring Hobbit Sméagol, who is in live action.
Some characters are performed better by puppets than CGI, such as Yoda, but most fantastical humanoid creatures (in live action films) can only be really done with motion capture CGI.
If you want to make a motion capture film, it's going to take more effort and money than simply making a CGI film with a cartoony art style or a (mostly) live action film.
It also confused me
Friend: Avengers Infinity War is the most epic crossover
Me: *shows this video*
...NAAAAAH avengers was better

As of April 2018, unlikely. NC is dead in the water.
Just a small critique: in the future, I think you could make the transitions between your opinions and Doug’s (or whichever guest you have) a lot smoother. It got very monotonous when you kept asking some variation of “So, what are your thoughts on this movie, Critic?” Maybe you two could just go back and forth with your thoughts, no transitions at all? Or give your opinion on one, then have Doug handle the next one? It’s just a suggestion.
Morgan Gobin I was thinking the same thing
Morgan Gobin THIS. This comment needs to be higher it got really tedious to watch with that repetitive format and really brought attention to how little Doug was able to contribute. Felt less like a collaboration and more like an after thought added in.
I like comments like these, constructive criticism instead of plain hate and nit picking
Agreed. I kinda felt the video would improve without Doug. If he took half the commentary, it would feel less jarring and more like a collaboration. Maybe Strider talks during one, Doug adds some input, then next one Doug handles it, Strider adds a little. Or at least make it seem more like a conversation.

To be fair, When the Wind Blows is more of a film of adults than children, so it knows who its audience is.
Eli Copperman But it was Rated Pg so some kids might have thought that it is perfectly fine for them.
Or some parents thought it would be fine, wouldn't be the first time. Heck a lot of parents took their kids to see Deadpool and that was rated R lol
So what? The whole idea of the Parental Guidance certificate is for adults to make up their own minds about whether to show it to kids not not. There's a lot of PG films children can potentially watch that aren't necessarily geared towards them. If When the Wind Blows were a live action film would it be rated higher than PG? Probably not. Would it still be a film aimed at children? Probably not. So what difference should it make? Animation is simply a medium, an artistic form. It should not have an age ghetto.
Quiet Tobey!
why does creepy as hell=for adults, anyway?

Nostalgia Critic: * jumps in loudly *

Unfortunately, I remember watching A Christmas Carol as a kid at my friend's house for a sleepover. I think I was 8 I think and grew up getting nightmares from Scooby-Doo (by the time I became 14 I started watching/laughing at horror movies) so imagine a easily scarred kid watching this. I vividly remember my friend falling asleep before Jacob Marley showed up, and when the ghost of Christmas present turned into a skeleton I was balling my eyes out and hyperventilating I was so scared. I actually woke up my friend, her brother upstairs, and her mom on the same floor. I was so scared that it was the first time my friend's mom called my mom to pick me up and take me home (we slept over at each other's house alot) and the worst part to this day my friend doesn't understand why I was so scared🙄, but I guess it's probably because when she was the same age she loved the horror movies I watch now. Anyway, long story short, I was horrified of The Christmas Carol. (And a bunch of the other movies on this list, but I remember The Christmas Carol the most for some reason)
I found the part where Scrooge is going down into Hell creepy as... :o
I was surprised that the film only received a PG rating.
I was pretty sure it was rated PG-13 due to how scary it was.

Seen Critic talk about this movie individually on his channel just recently? Glad 9 is getting more attention, but you also deserve credit for reminding the world that there's a creepy animated movie that's basically if all mutants in Fallout were replaced with Sid's toys
for disney's a christmas carol i like it a lot because charles dickens said that a christmas carol is not a joyful story but instead a dark and scary story
9 is a masterpiece of animation. My only complaint is how short it is. Christmas Carol is actually my favorite version of the story on film. Interesting fact about Christmas Carol: Did you know there are more versions of Christmas Carol on film than the number of years since the story was first published? That's a LOT of Scrooge!!
Two of my favourite youtubers together made my day. Love you guys.☺
Cheryl Graham so far this is becoming my favorite video since top 10 creepiest kid show characters w/ blameitonjorge. But since there are dozens of creepy animated movies, the question is, will there be a part 2?
2 of my favourite RUclipsrs of all time doing videos together? Brilliant!
*THE HOBBIT. An animated movie from the late 70's. I have no idea why my parents thought it was a good idea to take primary school aged kid that was scared of the dark see it at the drive-in, on a cold and foggy night... It scares the hell out of me to this day, especially the GOLLUM character!* 😱
Imo, everything Ralph Bakshi makes is creepy as fuck. xD I hated it too....honestly, the 1970s was a REALLY wtf time for animation....with that Raggedy Ann movie, these Bakshi films...and....wtf-est of all; FRITZ THE CAT.
I liked the Jim Carrey christmas carol. Something you have to realize is, in the 1800's, that was what passed for scary. Ghosts were meant to be frightening. The animation they used, to make it darker and scarier evokes the atmosphere intended for the book. The book wasn't meant to spread an enjoyment of christmas; it was meant to terrify rich greedy bastards into being better to the poor.
Very good point Bill
