Federal Signal: 508, Growl & System Test, Alert - New Palestine, Indiana

This video was recorded on Friday October 25th, 2019 during Hancock County's weekly test. This county hates me. Between a failed Thunderbeam and a strangely short 508 test in the blistering cold, I recorded this siren. The old system went off without a hitch at 11am. You could even hear the Thunderbeam that had just failed three weeks prior. At least they listened to me when I reported the failure. After the old system wound down, I called EMA to report that this siren failed. She said "yeah, we're having trouble getting the new system to go. We'll set it off soon." Less than a minute later, this siren spun around and did a growl. I waited around for about 10 more minutes and nothing happened.
Sirens in Hancock County are tested weekly on Friday at 11am when the temperature is over 32 degrees. Hancock County installed 21 508s over the last couple year to bring their total number of sirens in the county to 48. This greatly expanded their coverage into the rural and unincorporated parts of the county. Greenfield, the county seat, has a system of 7 2001s that they operate on their own. The rest of the sirens in the county are operated by County Dispatch. In the incorporated parts of the county, sirens are purchased by the jurisdiction. Throughout the rest of the county, Vernon Township is 100% covered by 10 130s along with a Vortex owned by McCordsville that predates the 2001s. Other towns have various smaller sirens with all 4 big manufacturers represented. The only non county-owned 508 is in New Palestine and it indirectly replaced their old H.O.R. siren that blew down in a windstorm in 2019.

Didn’t think that Thunderbeam was still active! And yeah, as I said before, the new sirens are programmed to only do 15 second tests

-Charlotte Gainsbourg amoureuse- just stand about 100 yards back and you will be fine. If you are worried, cover your ears and try to uncover them and see if it is uncomfortable

@thejakeman789 well the system test was in alert but the 508 was growl. So, I see your point. I’ll change when I’m not on my phone
