    I don't have any plans on how to build this. There is no standard way to build something like this. The parts you use will be different that what I used. Just lay out the parts and build a frame that works for the part you have. The frame has to hold everything and so that is what you will have to figure out using the parts that you are using.

    Sure wish you would publish plans and parts list. This is the best can crusher design I have seen .

      Sorry, I did this a long time ago on the fly with stuff I had in my shop, so I have no idea what parts you could use to make one.

      It was all done a step at a time with no real plans. The biggest challenge was gearing down the motor so you can keep the RPM's high to get the torque and power you need from thjat flywheel on the motor. It could still be geared down lower yet, but it works ok as it is now.

    Pinch the Fosters cans a bit as you drop them in so that the crush resistance is eliminated. It’s like when you’re standing on a can and then poke the side. It crushes down instantly.

      @@EL34XYZ that is the right answer. Never ever drink Fosters. You know what fish do in water, some also say you would drown internally before Fosters took any effect. Not that we drink beer for the effect it has of course, we drink beer because we like it and it helps us puzzle stuff out.

    I really do not see the need to crank the speed up. Just go with the flow at the lower speed, awesome machine. I tip my hat off to you.

    • @EL34XYZ
      @EL34XYZ  2 года назад

      Depends on how fast you can get the cans in properly. Too fast and you may only get the can in part way. Too slow and you are waiting for the big piston to open up fully so you can drop in the can.

      @@EL34XYZ well i volunteer as your chief can crusher. I might provide some of the cans required to crush. I will empty them in the appropriate manner. Obviously i will not operate under the effects of alcohol. Quite happy to do a spot of gardening also. . Here in Uk i am currently sat indoors having spent an hour tending my veg plot.

    Regarding the auto feed could you make a vertical stack with a slide gate with two openings right above the opening to the chamber timed for each drop side to side and something soft so the can doesn't bounce inside the chamber if necessary? This would run with the machine at the speed you want. The hand method just makes me queasy.

    Did u try pre-crushing the giant can giving it a start. Instead of it being a perfect cylinder shape. Like when u could stand on a can, and someone throws a pebble or something at the can Ur standing on and it crushes.

    If you were willing to dedicate it to cans of the same diameter, you could make a passive feeder that'd work fairly well If the piston was the size of the can itself, the next can would slide up over the top of the piston as it actuates into the first can, and drop automatically to the other side, wouldn't it? I think you could automate 12 and 16 ounce cans this way with a simple wire cage that allows the cans to lay flat on top of each other. That way, you could drop however many cans you have space for into the passive feeder and significantly reduce the likelihood of catastrophic finger injury. Just spitballing here...

    • @EL34XYZ
      @EL34XYZ  3 года назад

      I doubt that would work. How do you get the cans to fall exactly horizontally into the crusher. A piston sweeping back and forth is going to allow the leading edge to tip the can down ward and most likely, the can will stand on end.
      The cans will also bounce. I found that out using my test feeder that was able to drop them perfectly horizontally, but then some cans would bounce and stand up vertically.
      I just did this as a fun experiment. I think some other less complicated crusher would be better. I saw one that could crush hundreds of cans onto a cube. That way faster than a machine like mine.

      @x3r0x0ul 3 года назад

      @@EL34XYZ Agreed, there are other problems to solve there. It's a pretty cool machine at any rate. Maybe some kind of impact absorbent base material so they'd be more likely to fall and lay flat? I'm not sure. I did thoroughly enjoy the Rube Goldberg feel of your setup, though.

    I know this was uploaded awhile ago, but I think you were over thinking your feeding system. Should be able to just make a wood stack exact size of cans, have your crushing black the size of a can so it can only let one drop at a time and it will feed itself. Wont jam if the block is the right size and will just gravity feed. Im gonna use a lot of your design and gear down my bench grinder.

    • @EL34XYZ
      @EL34XYZ  5 лет назад

      Nope, I crush several sizes of cans as was mentioned in the video. Nothing I tried works feeding the cans 100% of the time for several reasons. Cans can be out of round, etc. You spend more time stopping the machine to clear out the jammed can that you do crushing cans. Hand feeding the cans is way faster.

    I want to ask you if you calculated the rod that turns 360 and the slide rod that crushes the cans for the space to put in the cans? I want to make something similar like yours but i have trouble finding the right distance for the long cans…any advice?

    • @EL34XYZ
      @EL34XYZ  7 лет назад

      I made the box first. Then you can easily put in the crushing piston and move it from one end to the other to see exactly how much travel you need. The box was made so that the piston should stop about 1 inch from the ends.
