      +Step-by-Step Science ... in the problem K2SO4, how did you get the 2 and the 4, and how did you get Oxygen in the formula?? How did you get 4? I thought the charge was -2?

      Salty Waffle sorry this is a year later. Remember that Sulfate’s formula is SO4, with a charge of -2. This is because of the -ate ending, having 1 more Oxygen than Sulfite.

    This was very insightful! I am in Sophomore year of high school, and I'm learning about ionic and covalent compounds. on the first test I practically failed that entire section because I did not understand how the teacher was explaining it. I am now taking a midterm with the same ionic or covalent questions. I was afraid of getting a bad grade again until I watched this, and I was able to complete a whole worksheet without a mistake. I thank you greatly for the content that you have put out. Continue to do this in the future!

    Many years later since this video was posted lol. I'm in college and I'm currently taking Chemistry. I wasn't really understanding this material and this video helped so much. I now understand Ionic and Covalent compounds. Thank you so much! & that joke was so funny yet cheesy.

    Estefani, if you are asking about the MnO2 the 4 comes from the fact that there are 2 oxygens; 2 x -2 = 4.

    Thank you so much. This has really helped me. However, I have a question. On Mn O2, how did you get the 4 that you put over Manganese

      Each oxygen has a charge of -2, since there are two of them, -2 + -2 = -4. So the Mn must have a charge of +4. Does that help?
