  • Over the course of two years, I constructed this small layout depicting Colorado's famous Georgetown Loop in HOn3 scale. To accommodate a small space, I condensed the loop concept into a 4x8 model railroad. This video highlights the important steps in the progression of the layout's construction, and includes some tips and techniques for scenery and model railroad design.

    Interesting how that you only have one line and decide to use dcc I assume you want to use sound and other effects 😁👍

      Yes the one functional HOn3 locomotive that I have has a lot of sounds that can be controlled with DCC, and it also runs more smoothly than on a DC setup.

    Loks great. Just a lil' nick pick you may build apon in the future, the different rock formations form photos I've seen appear to be a mix of the traditional gray basement rock, and pink granite. Just a lil' nick pick I swear! Just kiddin'. I aint gonna critique without giving you some resources 'cuz that'd be unfair, so here's mine: Myron Cook, a geologist that has a channel here. He goes into details bout the various rock formations encase you're interested. Also I'm now noticing how popular narrow gauge is becoming...must be something in the air...personally, I found myself to like the scenic vista's that 3ft gauge offers.

    Great modelling, well done! I enjoyed your video presentation too! All the best Guy. ps I live in France, although I must have past close to the Georgetown Loop when I took the California Zephyr in 1995, so I have seen the countryside myself, it was splendid and beautifully represented in your model.

    The foam board insulation. Since you used two pieces is it pretty sturdy but light enough to move? I am considering using it as well for my EBT layout

    • @historicalmodeler1483
      @historicalmodeler1483  9 дней назад

      The foam is an okay option if you don’t have too much weight on top of it, but this layout used a lot of plaster which added a significant amount of weight. I’m not sure this layout will survive being moved, but if you’re not planning on having more than around 40 pounds of material on top of your boards, I suspect you’d be okay to move the layout.

    Great job. Love it. What radius is the curve on the tall trestle?

    • @historicalmodeler1483
      @historicalmodeler1483  3 месяца назад

      The curves at the ends of the bridge have a 17 inch radius, and the curve on the bridge itself straightens out to an approximately 26 inch radius.
