This guy is super smart. I bought a Bernina 200 Artisa upgraded to 730 from him about 11 years ago. It still runs great. The problem is... there is only one of him and he doesn't live near me! Great guy..I hope he is doing well. Thanks for the videos

Hello, I tried to boot in service mode. Now the machine won't start at all. Is there a way to reset them?

JoeKind1958 Do you still monitor this thread. I have artista 200 with 32MB ( megabyte) internal flash and 32MB SDRAM as well. No update posted on Bernina official site. How can I get the FW update files?Just the simple update

      Hi,
Your problem is most likely dirty electrical contacts in the switch. You can get to those and clean them up with something like a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol but that requires removing the front cover of the machine. If you can get to it there is just one screw that holds a really small circuit board on right behind the switch, button. Just removing that one screw gets you inside where you can clean off the electrical contacts. It could be something else like one of the wires you would see across the top of the main circuit board is coming loose where they are all plugged in, there’s a whole row of them. You can remove the top cover by taking the two screws off and then you can check all those plugs by simply pulling them out and putting them right back in that sometimes gets them to work if they’re loose or there’s any dirt on the contacts.
So other than an electronic failure somewhere it’s usually just those contacts get dirty and the switch is not activated when you push it in.

Do you have a suggestion on how one can upgrade the artista 200 to the 730 ? Is it even possible any more? I know this is an older machine, but I had to start somewhere and this one was barely used and a good entry machine for my budget. Some day I am hoping to have the ultimate "dream" machine, but for now I have to start cost effectively. Have any thoughts on the potential for an upgrade. Thanks...and thank you for the informative videos on this machine.

MP Before I get into a long answer I would have to ask what you hope to gain by doing this update? A simple firmware update might get you want you want without the expense of a complete BSR kit and that basically is what the update kit does. It adds the BSR freehand sewing foot outlet to your 200. A rather expensive option just to do freehand sewing. Other questions so I can correctly answer you would be to know the firmware version of your machine and how much internal memory does it have? I have a video or two posted that shows you how to check the machines hours, firmware version and memory amount. It will be 32mb or 64mb showing for memory. Bill

Thank you so very much for all of your wonderful videos, they are indeed very helpful and informative. I live on a Island in the Caribbean and there is no Bernina dealer around. Can you please make an video on how to calibrate the automatic button hole foot 3A. It would cost me an arm and two legs to return it to the dealer in Spokane WA for calibration. Thank you well in advance for your help. Titiana

Thank you for your kind comment about my videos 😀 I normally only cover some of the basics as it seems the more in depth my videos get, the more people get in trouble attempting their own repair. That turns into answering more questions and more time on my part.
As you know, I don't have a video posted on how to calibrate a buttonhole foot simply because there is a clip on filter that goes between the sensor on the foot and the sensor on the machine, that is needed to do the calibration. I think the calibration still works without this small tool, but I rather not recommend in a public video like this, telling people how to do it without the recommended filter tool.
I am guessing that your buttonhole balance is off by one side not matching up with the other correct? Each 3A foot is alabaster for the machine it goes with. If you have 2 of the 3A feet, try the other one as that might be the correct one.
Out of room here. Email me at joekind@comcast.net for more info. Bill

+JoeKind1958 Each 3A foot is matched up with the machine it goes with. That is what my message is supposed to say. My darn spellcheck put in the word alabaster? I don't even know what that word is. LOL!! Guess I better look that one up.

Thank you for your return message and comment Joe, it is much appreciated. I will try my other button feet as suggested. I will pack up my machine and have UPS pick it up on Friday. Have a wonder and safe weekend. Titiana

+missrafaelas Yes, if you have any other 3A buttonhole feet, give them a try as possibly they got mixed up.
I am not quite sure why you told me that you would be packing up your machine and it will be going out to UPS on Friday? I sure hope you are not going through all that just because of the buttonhole balance.
If I could I would make a video and email it to you to show you how to set the balance. But right now I do not have a 200 or a 730. Right now I have a few 630's, 640's and three 830's along with some 180's.The process is similar in all these machines when it comes to setting the buttonhole balance, but the service screens look a bit different.
Keep in mind that if your material slips even a small amount under the 3A foot, the buttonhole won't line up correctly.
      Take care

My light went out on my artista 730. I took off the cover on the left side, but I don't see a bulb. Suggestions???

    • @JoeKind1958
      @JoeKind1958  8 лет назад

Most likely your fluorescent light is burned out. Because it has the the wrap around fluorescent light you won't see a bulb like the older models had. You will see a small circuit board that is plugged into where the sewing light bulbs were once plugged in. The outlet is made of white plastic and two small wires run into it. Right now that is what the small circuit board that powers the fluorescent light is plugged into. You could remove the fluorescent light assembly and plug in a bulb but it won't be as bright. There are some newer style LCD bulbs that can be plugged in, but again they might not be quite as bright as your original fluorescent light.
