    The tip about using Cute Weird Stuff tag is priceless. I never knew this was how the algorithm worked. This has upped my game with writing key words. I’ve been using relevant words as keywords, and now I have a gazillion other ways to write them. Thank you!

    This is helpful, thank you. I have only been ope for less than 3 months and was changing some listings quite frequently per the Marmalade low/search/engagement results. I sell original artwork mostly and find it difficult to find long tail tags. I was getting discouraged but will continue on; figure if I had a brick and mortar shop it would take months to make a profit, if not more...

    • @KaraBuntin
      @KaraBuntin  2 года назад

      Just find the good short tail keywords and don’t worry too much about the longer ones. But definitely don’t change things too much if you have accurate keywords, give it time to get some traffic and some stats built up.

      @@KaraBuntin Good advice. I have 12 sales so far, some “favored “ my shop so I will keep going and be positive! I find that when I was canceled Etsy ad my traffic dropped .
      You are a great resource and I like your style - right to the point. Also, as a kindred platinum / silver haired woman, I love your hair !

    Thank you so much Kara. I have a question. Some of my listings are zero in the stats, 0 visits, zero sales. They were ok before but ultimatly it is like this. So is it better to delete them and list them again with new photos, or try to make them better?

    Hi Kara, love the video! How would you go about finding a business idea to start with if you don’t have any skills yet, but are willing to learn? I want to start an Etsy shop, but don’t want to get into something that is too cramped with competition or just doesn’t have enough buyers. This is great for finding keywords but as far as finding an actual niche, I’m a bit stuck. Thanks!

    • @KaraBuntin
      @KaraBuntin  Год назад +3

      Honestly, I wouldn't start a business just to start a business. Since Etsy is handmade, supplies and vintage, you need to think about what you know how to make (handmade) that's good enough to build a business on, or what you know enough about for a supply business that you can stock and answer a ton of questions about. For vintage, you really need to have some level of devotion to vintage because it takes a different approach. I think I would find something i'm interested in first to develop the skills, then think about whether starting a business based on that would be something you want to do, or whether it will kill the joy of it for you.

      yes, I update it when I need to, but I teach principles of good SEO, not tips and tricks that change every ten minutes.

    Do the tags have to be written In a certain word order?
    For example:
    Tag #1- Jumbo sleep cap
    Tag #2- Curly hair turban
    So if a customer searched for SLEEP CAP FOR CURLY HAIR, would it matter that the words in the tags are backwards or does it have to be in order just how the customer typed it?

    Looking at your title, that is something I am having real difficoulty with, all I ever read is about matching keywords, yes they say you can have sentances with the keywords, but I have no idea how to even go about that, for example from where yours says 1950's - cookbooks that is obviously not going to be a single keyword etsy search will recognise, but I am asuming you have used multiple keywords to make a longer sentance? I tried this and Marmalead wasnt happy, so is matching keywords or short matching keywords such as "pink kitten bookends" less important for being found in searches? And would marmalead know that is a keyword or think everything within the comma is a keyword?

    • @KaraBuntin
      @KaraBuntin  2 года назад

      Marmalead is a tool, so you need to learn how it works then decide what to pay attention to and what to ignore when you use it. I'm not 100% understanding what you mean, but you should just take the keywords that you find in Marmalead and put them in a sentence-like structure instead of a list of words.
      So instead of "Pink kitten bookends, 1950s vintage bookends, kitschy home decor" make it more of a sentence. "1950s vintage pink kitten bookends for kitschy home decor." It just reads more smoothly but all of the keywords are still included. I rearranged one of them but the words are still in there and the listing will still be found for that combination.

    So...real basic SEO question (sorry)....so if you're selling a cookbook, in tags...you shouldn't have "Italian cookbook" - "Italian Cook Book" and "Italian Recipes" and "Italian Cooking" because you only need Italian one time in your keywords? Also, is "cookbook" and "Cook Book" redundant or does Etsy see those two differently?

    • @KaraBuntin
      @KaraBuntin  2 года назад +1

      You don't NEED to have them all in there because it will pick up "Italian" if you have it in there once, but it's not going to destroy the listing if you do repeat it. It just takes space away from things that you could be adding in, though, so not repeating things as much as possible is the best way to go. To see whether they treat one spelling the same as the other, do a search for both to see how many listings come up. If the number is pretty much the same they're probably treating them like the same word, but if there's a big difference you should probably use both versions because they're seeing them as two separate terms.
