I worked with Spankey in the studio for a couple of years in the late 2000s. He told me that a few years earlier, he suffered a stroke. He lost the use of his left hand and literally forgot how to play guitar. He completely re taught himself how to read and play music again, and he had to come up with new voicings to compensate for his left hand limitations... he was in his late 50s when all this happened. He was the real deal. RIP Spankey 🙏🏾
