Introduction from the the live DVD "Soulful Christmas". Spanky Alford live in concert. If you loved Spanky's ministry, you will enjoy this concert. His final live recording.
Truly transcendent. Even from beyond, Brother Spanky shows not only to other guitar players, but to ALL musicians the true gift of learning your instrument. Thru his ability to convey colors and emotions through the language of music, he forever changed the lives of the people blessed with the opportunity to ever hear, see or know him. I try to get my hands on anything this man has done, because he truly was the embodiment of what a musician could be and should be. Absolutely amazing...
CHIEF! I DON'T KNOW A SOUL WALKING THAT CAME IN CONTACT WITH MR. ALFORD OR STUDIED RECORDS HE PLAYED ON THAT DON'T GIVE HIM CREDIT.... NOT A SOUL... ACROSS GENRES. NO ONE WOULD DARE....
Wow, that was simply awesome. The Man truely love his instrument and could play. I would like to end my comment by saying if we spent quality time with our instrument, we could also become as good, but than again I think Spanky had a special gift that enable him to extend his artistry far beyond diatonic harmonization at very early age. I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with him, man what I great guy, totally unselfish and willing to share. He is truely missed!
Spanky Alford. Underrated as shit ? Sweet jesus. I only ran into him luckily by hearing A Tribe Called Quest - 4 Mom's ft. Spanky. That's all it said. I had no idea cuz it's a short, amazing instrumental. What a smooth dude..RIP.
@@dicksteptoe9199 I don't have to lie, that was literally my cousin😂 I was young when he died, but my mom & grandma was close to him. Regardless, I have no reason to prove anything to a stranger🤗 Be blessed.
Waouw i’m litteraly Shocked... i’ve been just recently listenning in a more deep way Spanky, but when I heard the first 6 seconds of this, i FROZE. Never happent to me. I wasn’t ready at all to hear this. i put my guitar down cause, there’s no way such a big music lover like me never heard this, i’m really sad to not have paid attention to such a great, let me say it again GREAT musician. One of the few bests for sure. RIP Spanky alford 🙏🏻
Spanky I love you and miss you man. I only got to meet you one time at black Top records, but you spirit and presence will nver be forgotten. I know Tyrone jackson and Joey Wolfork, will concur... RIP.. Anthony E. Reid Wilson, NC Ty's CD Definite Purpose
I never got the to formally meet the brother. I heard his music from my friend Canita..the way he plucked the strings was amazing..it was like jazz gospel and hip hop incorporated into one mix..may God Bless his resting soul..and peace to his family..
That was just beautiful soulful with that dreamy melody loved it........I'm hear because I looked up a bloke called Jim Gillette and found he played with a very talented guitarist and genuinely nice bloke Michael batio who had done some guitar sessions at a store with Eddie Alford (spanky)...and what a privilege it was to listen to Eddie for the 1st time and definitely not the last...
This is similar to Larry Carlton's arrangement from the album "Alone but Never Alone" but of course with various Spanky parts interspersed. I love it. Thank you for sharing.
Amazing player. Mr. Alford's work with Raphael Saadiq (Instant Vintage) and other artists was and is inspiring to many guitar players. At this time of year, it is truly fitting just to say Thank You. (posted by Jared's dad)
It is like there is no barrier between what he hear and what he play, as there is no guitar. Truly one of the absolute best
all the modern R&B/Soul guitar players came from this man!!!
oh shut up. Just enjoy the music.
Fuck off!!
@@ClémentCeni lol bud. i'm hearing angels and reading your spit. ha still made me laugh so thankyou
I agree
Straight outta his tip

Yes, I wish could learn how to play this song on the guitar just like him.
A Gibson ES-335, a Fender Tube amplifier, and a great guitarist. What an awesome combination. RIP Spanky Alford.
Gorgeous
Looks like a Super Reverb amp but certainly a Fender reverb amp. Great amps for the ES-335 guitar
That's not a Super - it's not square enough. I think Infidel14 is right and it's a Twin (Reverb).
I have 2.36 is those things: )

truly talented man that many still study but don't give him the credit he deserves!

RUclips recommended this to me and I’m glad it did because that was so good
He's the one who set the bar... no doubt about it. If I could just play 1/100 of the stuff he does, I'll be set.
Died too young, so gifted.
On of the best to ever do it and get away with it on the guitar!!!
Wow. Good , honest, plain playing.
Pure bliss
Best sounding 335 I ever heard
It's definitely the player, not the guitar my friend!
Beautiful. The best guitar player ever.
