    Oh my God, that city was INCREDIBLE! I want to be on the team that excavates it. It's so shocking, knowing that you are looking back 3,000 years to not just a few buildings, but an entire city. Can you imagine walking down those roads, imagining children from the 11th century BC running and playing, imagining the markets where farmers sold their grain, imagining your typical Ancient Egyptian just going about there day. Man, that was seriously one of the coolest archeological images I've ever seen. Another cool thing to think about is how similar that city looks to other modern middle eastern cities. God, the whole thing is just fascinating.

      +The Plebeian This is literally what I thought but slightly differently. 99% of humans are dim and DUMB. It's not that humans are brilliant or resilient, it's that we have the CAPACITY to be. That's why out of billions of people there are only a handful that actually change the world, invent worthwhile things and truly contribute to humanity. The rest are just a mob of idiots doing nothing more than converting oxygen into carbon dioxide, me included.

      ***** I don't know about mass appeal because it's not my kind of music. Fuckin' hell. A good bond movie too. Shit. I love Jack White's shit but Quantum of Solace just wasn't a great film. Wasn't a huge fan of Jack's latest album either. Everything he did before his latest album is pure fire as far as I'm concerned.

    • @LulzRoyce
      @LulzRoyce 8 лет назад +13

      +Katie K. Thing is, you shouldnt blame the Kardashians for it necessarily. It just proves that the world has THAT many dumb people in it. Because apparently the Kardashians were able to successfully market and sell their image and celebrity to millions. They technically worked fair and square for their money. It;s the mob of morons that support them that made them millionaires. The real problem isnt a single celebrity or even a group, its just that 99% of humans are idiots with short attention spans who care more about celebrity outfits than amazing discoveries like in this video. Most also have nothing to contribute to society. Me included lol.

      +Dinko B We have a TON of people like her. It's just hard to build up a network of people to pay attention to in order to get that impression. Kardashians are just louder and more well funded. People give them free advertisement all day long. I love the XKCD comics, but I don't even remember that guys name. I've never seen anything made by the Kardashians but I know their names because we won't shut the fuck up about them. I don't mean to be rude but you're contributing to that problem in a small way.

    • @DinkoBah
      @DinkoBah 8 лет назад +1

      Zuzu Superfly We have a ton of people like her, but no where near what we should have. Talking about a problem is not equal to contributing to it.

    I can't get over how incredible the picture of that city in infrared was. I've watched the video 3 times now and I'm still enamored. It's just amazing, seeing the streets of a city buried in the desert. In the 1981 film Raiders of the Lost Ark, Tanis is said to be the resting place of the Ark of the Covenant, which was hidden in a secret chamber called the Well of Souls. Tanis is fictitiously described as having been buried by a sand storm until 1936, when it was discovered by a German expedition outside Cairo. In reality, Tanis was the site of numerous archaeological digs beginning in the 19th century...

The French was already excavating the city for years before her and now she exaggerates everything and gets all the credits. My Pr. even said she doesn't know much. She even lied that she was the first to find a pyramid when the Egyptians was excavating for three years already. So they got mad and kicked her out of the team. Message to Sarah Parcak
    please could you find a way to to get your scans as a plug in for Google Earth. so we can look at these and explore ourselves.
    Sites I would love that you explored:
    Antartica
    Amazon ( City of Gold ) or whatever lost civilization.

      +agriperma she looks at the differences in vegetation, wouldn't it be trickier to find something in Antarctica?

    • @agriperma

      Erick Machado She uses other tactics, like Infrared etc. Tunis for example is under the sand in the desert, as you can see from the before and after pictures, its obviously not about vegetation there.
      NASA a few years back was able to confirm that North Africa at one time had a huge river, even bigger than the Amazon. all underground now. they used some kind of ground penetrating radar.

      This wouldn't be a good idea as we'd have alot more looting and destruction of these ancient sites that need to be preserved well and professionally

    She seems to be reciting off a pre-memorised speech. Like maybe her TED speech. But I appreciate the effort in that. But she could also chill and talk conversationally.

    I wonder if they can scan the sea in the same way, seeing that ice ages have exposed terrain that now is underwater

    Holy shit I was enthralled by this woman's genuine enthusiasm, stirred in with a large helping of actual scientific-historical advancement, and the added dash of actually well funded grant money to remind myself what it's there for.
    If there was ever a time to drop you shit and become an archeologist, nows the time I guess.

    The reason Fallon is ahead in the ratings is that most of the people staying up late enough to watch this show are teenagers and 20 somethings who dig the celebrities and popular culture that Fallon celebrates. I think Stephen will eventually draw these people in once they see the variety of musical guests he's bringing on the show. A lot of them have large followings among that younger set.
