I totally agree with all the comments. The bride dances well enough to be one of the Polonaise group? The groom was good also and you could feel how much he was on a cloud that day. I've watched it over and over and it never fails to put a smile on my face. Jimmy Sturr is so special as well and is still the best by far. Just a treat for me
My Polish grandparents' wedding reception in 1929 lasted 3 days. Thanks for posting this, the Polish weddings from my childhood are some of the best memories I have.
my wife and I are married 62 years and had our wedding at polish cadets in buffalo NY. we had 2 polish orchestras play at our festivities. lasted till 3 am Sunday morn. what a wonderful time 350 guest had. what's headache a lot of men had the next morning!
My blood comes right off the border of Poland and Slovakia. I have both polish and Slovakian cousins! I love this music!!!! I play the accordion as well. I was privileged to play my clarinet at Wurstfest with Jimmy sturr in 2012!
My great grandparents wedding was held in Germany shortly after the holocaust with other survivors. It lasted three whole days and they partied hard after such a terrible time. They’ll never be forgotten
Wow! That is such a beautiful and traditional Polish wedding. Loved watching the dancing. Cheered me up. Looks like you just celebrated your 31 year so marriage. Sto lat!
IMO, the Jimmy Sturr Orchestra is perfection, they possess a smooth and flowing tempo and watch the fabulous Polonaise Dancers, they are Polka Hopping on air !!!. This is First Class. Heaven at its very best. It doesn't get any better than this. Thank you for allowing me to post at this video. ~Joe W.
thank you so much for sharing this most beautiful video. Oh what fun! I must say it made me cry and I write this through tear-filled eyes now, as it reminds me of my mother and her 5 sisters. Oh how they loved to polka and could they ever..6 stunning beauties...all gone now except my 85 yr old mother. thank you for bringing back a flood of wonderful memories. May there be many more Blessed years of happiness to this couple.
This video is awesome! The Polonaise Dancers are fantastic! Jimmy Sturr and his Orchestra performed well. I've been to several Polish weddings in Indiana with Polish polka bands, but have never seen a Polish wedding reception quite like this one. This wedding reception had to cost some serious zloty!
Some of my fondest memories are dancing with my Dad. (Between my Mom, my sister and myself, my dad sure got a workout.) All of the kids were invited to weddings, learning their heritage and customs.
12-12-81 42 years ago today for me and the Mrs. Starlite Ballroom, Stevens point Wisconsin. Duane Burclaw and the Golden Aces provided the polkas for us. Just brings back memories. Thanks for taping and sharing!
The costumes look like something that originated in the mountain country of Southern Poland. These dancers remind me of the dancers on a ted matzamowitz album I acquired in 1955.
This video is amazing, it brought back so many memories of this particular talented dance group. It was great to find this video on youtube and start saying names of people that I can recognize as they dance by. They used to be so much fun to watch and also dance with after they performed. Thanks for posting this, it really made me smile.
I assume the Bride and Groom danced with this dance troupe? Usually you have to either hire a troupe, or else, if they all showed up, they would be doing it celebrating the marriage of 1 or 2 of their dancing companions getting hitched. Of course, back in the day, all you needed to do was tell someone "my sister or my cousin" (or whomever, most everyone knew each other from School, growing up together in the 'hood or Church.) is getting married and you'd have at least 300-500 people there at the drop of a hat. That's the way Polish Weddings were when I was growing up. Fun times w/the family!
Expenses were much, much cheaper. The cooks who worked at the weddings were paid a pittance, food was much cheaper, the bride and groom ordered enough for several hundred people, there was no charging 'by the plate' as has been the standard practice for many years now, weddings were held in church or fire halls---nothing fancy but it was the cheaper way to go and have a lot of people attend weddings. Everyone came--kids, babies, the very old. It really was a better time back then.
Li Braves Is it a Polish thing? Every White Eagle Hall I've been in and Knights of Columbus Hall has pretty much that same dark paneling. Are there really big brass chandeliers hanging in there too? Our KofC hall has 6, I think.

Looking at the video this seems to be quite old video ... Today in USA (and Canada) there aren't enough young Polish people ... But I bet this soon, if not already, is happening in ... England.
Oh no their are in the US, I grew up with a good number of them in Michigan. I chose to participate in the Hosana in my community because I love to sing.
Does anyone know if the Polish dancers/costumes were a part of the wedding venue or a part of the Jimmy Sturr band? The dancers in their costumes make the whole atmosphere for the wedding special, in my opinion.
@@bstiger6482 They were the Polonaise folk dances from Maspeth, Queens, New York. They did a lot of dance appearances with Jimmy Sturr’s band, showing all the traditional dances. The wedding party hired the dance group as additional entertainment for the wedding.
@@bstiger6482 they were regular dance group that traveled to all different affairs and dances. Those were their traditional costumes represents different areas and what they wore back in those days.

Wonderful, fun, joyous Polish wedding. We Poles really know how to throw a party!
This makes me wish I were Polish; they seem like they know how to have fun.
I loved being part of the Polonaise Dancers.
How long did the group dance together? Fantastic dancers.

Fantastic
Yeppers Wandziu, its the PolkaNutJoe, at video location 6:12, IMO, this IS THE perfect Wedding Dress for doing the Polka Hop !!!!

OH WHAT FUN !
that escalated quickly!! :D

Hi David & Laura, If you ever consider renewing your wedding vows for your 30th anniversary with Jimmy Sturr, can I PLEASE, PLEASE get an invitation?
- Haha... after 7 years I just had to return to get another thrill of a real polish wedding again. z całego serca - Powodzenia!
Looks similar to krakowiak. Learning polka now. Polish american. Hopefully I can marry a polish woman

The bride is the one who is wearing the clean Bowling shirt!
i often wonder why the boys are wearing what looks like a kilt.
How do I learn how to do that dance?
Well, you just have to be polish. They showed me how to dance like that when I was 8 yrs old in school.
Saved this from You Tube 2 years ago. Check the groom out.

this is more a Polish-American wedding. The 2-step is more of an American polka move, not so much Polish......but definitely fun.

that family must be rich to hire the sturr orch,, jimmy sturr told me personaly he wanted to do a stint on the jay leno show,, leno turned him down!
May Jimmy & the dancers had a slow season and just settled for all the beer they could drink.
A typical ? No kidding.
Too bad that tall blond guy danced for a little while!!!!!
Super les Danses traditionnelles , mais à la sauce USA ....
You dont have to be polish to dance this stuff, i knew a scotsman who could dance a polka just like in the vid.
the men are obviously gay, i praise the tolerance.
