To be fair, the word fetish doesn't strictly relate to sex. It's just an attraction to something specific. For example, someone who likes to wear weird or interesting socks(think, Spencer from icarly), could be said to have a sock fetish, even if there is nothing sexual about their interest. Though I will concede to the fact that the vast majority of its colloquial use is in terms of a sexual nature.

I love how creative their fursuits are. I'm not a furry myself, but I have no hate for this Fandom at all (or really, mostly any kind of Fandom actually). They look like people who just want to have fun and it's just a hobby that they feel really close to. I can respect that 100%.
I'd rather live life being happy while others are laughing at me, instead of not doing what makes me happy just to fit in society's so-called "standards", being lonely and miserable.

The only thing I don't like about this video is that in the beginning it says "inside the furry fetish world" instead of "inside the furry fandom world," which only serves to perpetuate the false stereotype that all furries participate in the sexual side of the fandom. That's like saying that every Harry Potter fan likes to read Drarry smut fanfics or have sex in wizard robes.
And that sounds fucked up, but since Harry Potter started well, people will never even think of that, not the case with furs.

I never really saw furries as weird or repulsive, and it's only now that I'm hearing about the stigma with them. (Yes, I've lived in a "cave".) During my freshman year in high school, I fell head over heels for a guy who is a furry and followed him to a website for furry artists. Nothing ever screamed wrong or strange or repulsive. I saw the people there as regular joes who saw themselves as part of something. Like extreme fans of football who tailgate every Sunday, it didn't seem any different to me.
Looking at this now, I find myself asking "What is wrong with furries, mainstream public? I don't see anything."
I don't consider myself a furry, but this comment gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling! Much appreciated.

As long as they are happy and are not harming anyone else then they can do what they want really.
We anthropomorphise animals in art and media all the time (I would draw a lot these myself actaully), but I think that personally taking on the physical appearance of such is hinting towards a deeper need then these people are likely comfortable expressing in a video on the internet or even acknowlegding to themselves. I can completely understand the attaction though. Dressing up for halloween or a party and acting out your character is great fun - so this would be taking it to a whole other level. You also get people that cosplay. Is this not just another extension of that really?

You don't have to go to a con to meet furries. There are these little get togethers called furmeets. Look up furry communities in or around your area and ask where and when some furmeets are. I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area and the furry community here is called Bay Area Furries and there are a lot of meetups around here. Meets range from bowling to fursuiting on the SF cable cars. There are picnics and many other things. They are very fun. So yeah, don't rely on cons. Go to furmeets first.

I think this is a pretty good representation of the fandom. It's not biased, there are actual furries doing the talking and not just some reporter who did research for five minutes, and it talks about commonly overlooked details like how only a small portion of furries have fursuits and how there's no age limit. I also appreciate how they used actual furry terms, like fursuit and fursona, and not using negative terms like "fur costumes" or "weird outfits" like some people do.

To me personally it's important because I make a huge cut between my fursona and me as a person. But all in all this video was closer to the truth than many others of its kind. (Every time when I see a documentary about furries in Germany they portrait all furries as fursuiters and "I want to hug everyone" people...)

Man, there are some creative and talented freaking people at that place! Look at the intricacy of a lot of those fursuits... Some of those were freaking awesome. Honestly, for a long time now I've never understood why furries get such shit for being themselves. I think they should be allowed to be who they are, and have fun doing what they do. They aren't hurting anyone; they're finding a way to express themselves.
I think Veridian said it's about taking the best parts of yourself and what you want to be and melding them and that's actually a really cool idea. I wouldn't ever be a furry, myself, because it doesn't call to me and isn't my thing-- but I think furries shouldn't be so ostracized and hated by everyone else, even geek communities. It seems really unfair to me. When we're geeks or not-mainstream, we're all a little off compared to what mainstream expects. We should embrace each other in our uniqueness rather than judge each other for our differences.
To all the furries out there whether they have suits or not-- keep having fun and being awesome, and you do you :) You aren't hurting anyone by being yourself so no one should be able to tell you to stop.

I understand that you want a fandom where you can express yourself but why base it around anthropomorphic animals? What's the origin of the fandom? Who started the furry community? And most importantly why are you a furry? There are things I want to know about this fandom since it's such a strange and fascinating idea.
Joyful Scout ill start by telling you that i became a furry becouse i was never accepteren anywhare else and when i finely fouwnd the furrys iT was the first time in my life that i have ever felt that i was welcome somewhare so that is the big reason i joined. Also i am your run of the Mill normal kid that was unlucky enough to be bullyed for 8 years
I became a furry from a couple reasons
1. You have no idea who is under the mask so you Can either be very extroverted or introverted in full suit and no one would care, that’s the beauty of it
2. Since I’ve become more committed to the fandom, my very severe depression and social anxiety disappeared because I’ve decided who I want to be
3. Fursonas, they are furry variations of yourself or completely different!
I fucking love this channel, it opens my eyes to so much stuff. While it's not something I would be interested in, it's really great just to be able to understand it now.

Yea, I got mixed feelings on their word choice by a fetish video maker struggling to find mainstream relevancy without resorting to clickbait wording.
I know of a lot of furries who are scientists, and engineers, and police officers, and its seriously amazing! A lot of people seem to think that the furry community is a bunch of sex-crazed men who dress up in animal costumes and make porn. I don't deny there is some weirdo people in the fandom that do that, but the majority of the fandom is so accepting and welcoming. I'm glad I found the furry fandom because I feel like I finally belong somewhere :) Great view
But the majority of it is also cancer.

I would absolutely love to be a furry, but I'm broke, I have no friends, and my parents won't take me to a con by myself because they'll think it's only old creepy dudes... I'm almost 14 and my parents won't let me make brownies when home alone.. I love sculpting and paper mache, so I think I could make some pretty cute suits with my ocs, but my parents won't allow that, and at my age, I would be made fun of. I'm super shy and awkward, and I don't want to end up sitting in the corner the whole time, or to use all my money just to waste material or just only using it once a year.
To be a furry, you have to like anamorphic animals, so you're already one :)

I like the creativity of the fandom and the acceptance you get from the community. They're actually really friendly. Of course there is also the gross side of it (yiff art and murries) but remember all fandoms eventually get those few "special" members that mess it up for everyone else. I've never seen a fandom that never had any cringe in it. I hate that people just assume that because some members yiff or draw yiff art means that every single one of them do. I'm somewhat of a furry (mostly just interested in the art) and I hate yiff art (or any form of porn for that matter) and of course will be pissed if any of those individuals spam me with that kind of stuff. And it does happen. I try to stay as far away from that side as possible and stay on the sfw side. Yes I agree at times the furry fandom can be weird, especially with some of the costumes or the way the suiter behaves when in suit, but that doesn't describe every member and everyone's done something weird before, but that's not an excuse to go telling them to kill themselves or insulting them, especially since a lot of furries are kids or just people who have some sort of anxiety or depression. Statistics show that a large majority of the community consists of people who have been through some form of trauma, whether it be childhood trauma, abuse, PTSD (there's a lot of veterans in the fandom), etc and see the furry community as a coping mechanism because the members are generally friendly and accepting, but it isn't helping when people go to target and downgrade them. I find it annoying that people act as though wearing a fursuit or being a furry in general kills hundreds of people, yet they see nothing wrong with encouraging suicide or threatening to gas/bomb people for a hobby that isn't harming anyone and then consider it being normal and "more sophisticated than furries".

To be honest, I'd totally join one of those conventions, like, it seems to be funny and those fursuits look fluffy af. Wouldn't wear them in public anywhere outside special places though

here's the thing, I never really hated anything for real. some years ago I hated Justin Bieber and furries and stuff like that. but I didn't really hate anything, I only hated something because everyone else hated. I just didn't want to seem make a weird person. but later in my life I realized that I don't have to do things other people do, I just wanted to be who I am. But now I am actually a Justin Bieber fan and I just recently became a furry( still working on the fursuit)
People should stop hating on furries. Every fandom has a sexual side so why does this one stand out most? MLP has a sexual side, Sonic has a sexual side, Mario has a sexual side and even Minecraft and Fortnite have sexual sides. I could go on.

Such mixed feelings. On one hand, a bit of revulsion just based on my own biases. On the other hand, kind of feeling happy for them and the fact that they have found something they enjoy, and a "live and let live" attitude.

There's such a huge misconception of us, we aren't some disgusting sexual cult. We aren't much different then people that dress up as comic characters. Most of the time, people turn to the furry fandom to be accepted and are usually going through something in their lives. We aren't all mursuiters.
I dont have a fursuit(yet) But i think that dressing up as your oc, or something like that is awesome!
