Watching this made me cry I remember watching the Four Tops at the calafornia ballroom Dunstable England in the 70s cost me 3 pounds to get in Levi Stubbs made me shiver what a singer the Four Tops where great Mr Fakir keep going the Four Tops music I play most days, I just wish you were all still here
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👏👏👏love y’all! Great intertainers!! Thank you for all the music you have given us! 20/22 still listing to your music today. Just great memories growing up with this music . R.I.P. to the ones who are not here today but, still will be remembered through the music. Thanks again! 🥰
I was 3 years old when the Motown 25 Anniversary aired. The day I fell in love with music. I still remember the show I saw it through a child with mature eyes. I had already missed 2 1/2 decades of the tempts. I'm so grateful for these uploads. My 2 year old daughter has fell in love with the Temptations movie & after watching it over & over 😫😫😫 she has got me on a Motown binge watch. This is my 3rd day 🤣🤣🤣 I'm enjoying this. Ironically Barry Gordy will be 90 this Thursday on Thanksgiving. NOVEMBER 28, 2019 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 HE IS STILL ALIVE AND MAJORITY OF EVERYONE HAD GONE ON.
The Four Tops are sooo magnificent. So much press was done on the Temptations and the Supremes and Miracles that sometimes (maybe because they were so free of drama) that the Four Tops got ignored in the press. Their voice are perfect together, and then Levi in the front is the icing on the cake... Sounds like they could sing anything and make it special, even when singing songs made famous by British or Pop groups. Walk Away Renee (one of my 4 Tops favorites), I'm A Believer, It's All In the Game (another masterpiece cover). I'll admit, even I sometimes ignored them until I matured and paid better attention! They also had the same original members until Lawrence passed, initially choosing NOT to replace him. I am in awe of The Four Tops! Stevie Wonder ain't so bad either!!! LOL
I'll never understand why there wasn't a Four Tops movie. After all the disaster movies about groups that fell apart, there should be some example of how to keep a group together for that many years. We need to get it done before we lose Abdul Fakir.
There was no scandal with the Tops. Negativity sells. Therefore no book or movie. Obie once said, "Why tell a story that's already been told." I agree with him !
i have heard Levi say time and time again: "the story has already been told." never heard Obie say it, but i imagine they all said it because there is no book, no movie, and no plans for either.
Personally, I don't understand that line of thinking. Wouldn't fans of the group want a book with a fairly detailed history of the group? I know I would. But I'm a fairly new fan that doesn't really know much about the group.
Boyz To Men talked about how The Temptations influenced them and Melvin Franklin (RIP) told them to always be humble about their success. In The UK on The X Factor, every Singing Group that auditions said that Boyz To Men influenced them immensely and as many of you know "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" Diana Ross's Version is played when someone gets the Gold Buzzer. I remember seeing the Movie about The Temptations and My Father laughed as Cholly was teaching them their Moves. It's amazing to know that The Motown Charm School still exists. First with Popstars Shows all over the world most notably in 2002 with Popstars The Rivals not to mention K-Pop. Cholly's former Partner Honi Coles would later be The Manger of The Apollo Theater where The Miracles did a disastrous debut in 1959.
RIP to Lamont Dozier who Co Wrote alot of their hits as they acknowledged. RIP to Olivia Newton-John who over the years mingled with Motown Alumnae most notably Stevie Wonder & Michael Jackson.
R.I.P. Levi Stubbs :-( your songs will stay in our hearts forever. No one can take the wonderful memories away from us. We will hear them over and over again. 😭💋❤🙏
I've heard stories about how company execs constantly attempted to get Levi to go solo and he would always refuse to do so, remaining with the Tops until his illness no longer allowed him to sing with them. The other 3 give him credit for them having a career as singers, possibly because once a lead singer leaves, not much attention is paid to those that remain (stereotypically). He was a great guy, remain with his buddies, his brothers from the time they were kids until death. Longer than any of their marriages!! Four great guys!!
Why would the execs want Levi as a solo artist? What would he accomplish as a solo artist that he couldn't accomplish as the lead singer of a popular group? Like Diana Ross going solo? Why did she go solo? She was already billed as Diana Ross and the Supremes before she went "solo." And when Miss Ross did her "solo" performances she still needed three singers on stage with her to replace the Supremes!
THE FOUR TOPS & THE SUPREMES (Mary Wilson, Cindy Birdsong, Jean Terrell) in the 1970's recorded as THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN and if you come across their work together is outstanding, their version of "River Deep-Mountain High" is magical, it went Top#20 on The Billboard 100 Pop Charts. Now if you had the chance to see them perform live like I did, that was glorious. I saw them in a concert together in Washington DC in 1971 and the chemistry they had together showed how much fun they were having.
I believe you. Yet there was no way that The Diana Ross Less Supremes were going to eclipse Diana Ross. A Young Lady named Nicola Roberts from the UK did her Version of River Deep Mountain High during an audtion and it was amazing. She would go on to be part of a Girl Group called Girls Aloud which is the most successful Group to come out of Reality TV in the UK.
laminage....Diane Ross is the product of the marketing, publicity machine of THE BOSS, the one and only THE BOSS, Motown CEO Berry Gordy. While being her lover 1969/1974 he created her. like Clive Davis created Whitney Houston. Today in 2018 Ms Mary Wilson's voice is in far better shape than Diane Ross. Mary will be in San Francisco at THE NIKKO HOTEL "Feinstein At The Nikko Room on February 16 & 17, 2018 and I can't wait, she has evolved into THE SUPREMES LEGACY!
You know what's also so amazing. Still after all these years, Motown's "Charm School" in it's own way still has a ripple effect. I was watching POPSTARS: The Rivals from 2002 and they put the "Kids" through the same "Bootcamp" in terms of Vocalization and Choreography. Even after all of these Years, They are still popular in the UK.
This is real music right here where o where did these days go? Why'd they have to go? Take me back please take me back! Love love love the temptations and Marvin Gaye yasss! If only I could go back
If I'm not mistaken The Spinners and The Four Tops are two groups who kept up their original members for many years, of course some of them if not many would eventually pass away in years to come.
this reminds me of my mother Stella Rest In Peace Mom....Especially when her parts came on the four tops singing the 4 of us and Paul Williams(her favorite tempt) singing For Once in my life.....she'd repeat those over and over. I cry when I see or hear those songs. Also since I am a Supreme fan a huge one, when the Supremes and Temptations do their medley ..I used to do the dances Diana Ross does when she drops it at the knees a couple times. lol She used to laugh cuz we both know I can't stand Diana. Love and Miss you Mom soooooooooooo Much. I think of you every day. see you soon.
Maybe someone will make a feature-length documenary of The Four Top's while Mr. Fakir is still with us, even if it is not released immediately. I say this because he may want to maintain as much privacy as he can, and a film might generate a lot of publicity. Since we don't know a lot about The Tops' private lives, we really don't know if there was any drama. Nevertheless, I would like to see a feature-length docudrama of just them alone, not sharing the stage with anyone else. We don't know much about their UK tour. They said they had a wonderful time; and I would love to hear more about it. If Ms. Franklin, and Mr. Fakir could be interviewed immediately, it would be great. The two would be a treasure trove of information that probably can't be obtained from any other source. Is anybody with me? If so, please reply. Maybe we can start a campaign to get it done. After all, they were every bit as good as The Temps, but, unlike The Temps, never got the respect, in my opinion, that they deserved. Let's here about just them already!!
@@showtime6663 He is. That's so surreal to know that after 57 he's still manning the Ship. In the UK & Australia, they are still revered. To many of the Groups they were the prototype for every single group of their genre that came after them. As for The four Tops, since Three of them are Dead Renaldo "Obie" Benson, Walter Payton, & Levi Stubbs they would need permission from their Families and maybe they said no. You know what's so sad, when The Temptations got Honorary Grammys only Otis Williams was there to accept his while the Children of their Partners represented their Fathers. A Couple of years ago, Abdul "Duke" Fakir was part of a UK Documentary called "I'm In A Boy Band".
I just seen the mighty mighty TEMPTATIONS & THE FOUR TOPS. in NEW JERSEY and just let me say this nobody has ever got. Over there LOVE affair with the TEMPS &TOPS

True. Actually, they were together about 60 years (formed in 1952) But after that one replacement in 1961, they stayed together until last surviving lead singer Marvin Junior died in 2013 - more than 50 years. A phenomenal achievement.
Here's a funny story. When they did The Big Chill Scene, they had to "pretend" they were listening to The Music, then after the scene was put in, The Editor put the actual music in. As you know The Soundtrack is on Motown Records. It also featured songs by The Rascals, Beach Boys, and The Exciters and Three Dog Night.
The Temptations and Four Tops were the two best groups in musical history. Music now is so disgustingly AWFUL that it's a disgrace to even refer to it as MUSIC!. I'm so grateful for having grown up with Motown. Yes, Levi was married but I loved him anyway...
And to think that in future years The Temptations would work with Elton JOhn whom they met in the 1970's, as well as Rod Stewart (The Motown Song). Rod Stewart said one of his biggest thrills was performing with David Ruffin in the early 1970's shortly after leaving The Faces. In England they were mentioned on The UK Soap Opera Emmerdale when a Marriage Proposal went wrong. The Groom wanted the Waitstaff to serenade his Girlfriend with My Girl but another song was sung instead.

Unfortunately they didn’t get many songs from Holland-Dozier-Holland to perform.
