  • A dashboard error message resulting in no engine restarts after 521 miles affects many Jaguar Land Rover and Range Rover models since 2015. The error message says the exhaust fluid quality is incorrect, yet there is not actually a system on the vehicles to test this - it is merely the resulting analysis of the exhaust gases after they have passed by the injection of Adblue into the exhaust. Most times the error can be fixed if you follow this video, very simple and minor tools required. A visit to a dealer to resolve this, with the resultant diagnostic plug ins, often costs between £500 and £1300. If you have a Jaguar XE, XF, E pace or F Pace with the 4 cylinder diesel or the Range Rover Evoque, Discovery Sport plus others then this is for you. 30 minutes of your time and you will save lots more time and a chunk of cash - keep the car more than a year and you'll save it again - These Euro 6 engines are a mobile cash machine for Garages.

    Great video, many thanks! I had the same issue, probably because I was running low on DEF. Number of miles left in quality error message was same as DEF refill. I followed your procedure but couldn’t reset with my cheap scanner and had to buy iCarsoft LRv2 ($100). I did reset with 14 miles left on mixing error message. Drove the car and after 14 miles red warning popped up No Restart Possible. That’s where I thought that a visit to the stealer was going to cost a lot of time and money. Fortunately red message disappeared after another 5 miles. Learning for me is not to let DEF run low. Many thanks again.

      You are a braver man than me letting it get that low on miles haha! A few others have mentioned that a cheap scanner wouldn't clear it, others have said it did. I think those that succeeded tried hitting the Clear Codes option, even though it showed no codes to clear. However, the Carsoft is a handy piece of kit to have standing by - on a long journey I carry it with me in case that display lights up again. Thanks for your message, glad it worked out for you

    Hi, Has yours reoccurred? I took mine to the dealer, have a 2016 rr, diesel sport and 3 weeks later, it reoccurred. For over $500 they cleaned the nozzle. Cleared the codes and sent me on my way. It sounds like a build up again as the error came back. Not sure if they cleaned like you did in the exhaust inlet, going to ask them. Also think if they do not seal proper and air gets in, crystals could form again? Also they found a leak in exhaust at a clamp the second time in. (I was aware of this awhile ago as fumes were getting into cabin before first visit) Thinking that could accelerate a build up? Thoughts? Thank You for your brilliant fix.

    I want to thank you for this important info. I got the same alarm and I follow your steps and able to clear the alarm.
    I got a alarm saying "NO engine restart in 500 kms. Bad DEF quality detected". I searched the info on web and found your video which was really helpful. First I added another container of Adblue and Filled to top. I was assuming it would go, but it was there and now i have only 100kms left. Then I performed every step of yours and drained the whole Adblue. However It was too tough for me to find the Injector you mentioned in the video which I found from the other video. I cleaned it with worm water and put it back. I fucked the 5mm screw so I went for 6mm. I put it back and cleared the alarm with Innova 3100rs OBD2 scanner which costs me $170. The status of the alarm changed to "Dosing malfunction". I put my tire back in and refill the Adblue. I took it to drive and after 28kms it cleared automatically. Such a relief for me. I want to thank you that u put your efforts by sharing the detailed video. It was tough job for me as I have only my car jacks.
    Thanks

      Great news Ravinder. I imagine most peoples first reaction seeing the "Exhaust Fluid Quality" warning would be to add new Adblue, its badly worded - unless you suspect someone may have added screenwash or water to the Adblue tank in error, its never going to be Adblue Quality that is the problem. Adblue is made to stringent standards and you can use any genuine adblue, it doesnt have to be Jaguar/Landrover either. You mention difficulty finding the injector, for the sake of others, you will find it under the car and towards the front of the exhaust in line with the right hand front door.

    I have the same issued on a Jaguar F-Pace prestige 2017. I cleaned the Adblue injector and it was not that bad as yours. I have the tools on hand and mount the car in a ramp with a lamp under it took 10 minutes to remove injector. At first I cleaned with brake cleaner and carburetor cleaner the injector. I scrap the inside part and vacuum as you did mount everything back and ran 30 miles and I got the message change now to fluid dosing from bad quality DEF. Ran the car and nothing happen. I checked other videos and non-sense with the NOx sensor which I clean too as well as the oxygen sensor but nothing happen. I watch again your video remove the adblue injector again, this time I submerged the metal part of the injector in hot water for few minutes 2-5 max. Put everything together ran about4-5 miles and the message was gone. Thank You it does work and is a very simple process few tools. (4mm hex, small flat tip and a lamp)😁.

    Hi Terrence - Yes, it has done it 3 times in 2 years but I have heard of more regular occurrences. Sometimes it will do it and give the message (providing we are talking Quality issue, not Dosing by the way) which can be cleared by simply plugging in a suitable code reader and clearing the codes as described in the video. If they are charging $500 to do this simple task I would consider trying elsewhere if you have a choice, but preferably buy a code reader - I used the following reader, my one was around £100 in the UK but simpler ones will do. Here is the link for the US priced one

      Excellent Raj - Glad it helped, hopefully you didn't have to jack it up so far with the ground clearance you must have! If it does it again after just a few months and you remove it to find there is little build up, you can just do the code reader part - which should get you back to the Dosing fault and it should again reset.

    I am STILL having the same issue. The local JagTech garage are all good chaps and they cleaned it all for me, they described to me what you are showing in this video and charged only about £65 (sixty-five) for the labor. Now that's fair!
    However, a new error message was then showing - as you also show in the video. They advised me so I had to take the car to a longer drive before the message cleared (seemed to me that Cruise Control works against clearing it - drove 45 miles on Cruis Control and nothing. As soon as I switched off Cruise Control and drove the car without it, indeed the error had cleared within a few miles).
    But the next day, the same first error message and no engine restart within 5xx miles popped up on the M1 while driviing towards London.
    Took it back to the garage and they told me that the root cause could be the turbo charger, which leaks oil in the engine of these models (2015-2018) as Land Rover had re-used the turbo from a non-Jaguar car, which are not fully compatible with the oil use and that leaking oil makes the sensors think the AdBlu is dirty. Seems like a turbo replacement could be the ultimate solution. What do you guys think?
    I really like my 2015 XE so I am now trying to see how I can at least have a longer term interim solution... for example I would not mind if I had to perform these steps myself every year - but everything more frequently and just WTF Land Rover, really...
    I will perform these steps in your video myself and see if it is a longer term solution and will report back.
    Thanks, brother - really grateful to you for this video!

    • @GHOOGLEMALE
      @GHOOGLEMALE  Год назад +1

      There are some additional steps you could take before a Turbo - it could end up being that, the logic holds that it could do that but its very rare compared to this Adblue issue.. However I think its worth either taking your old one out and cleaning it again, with warm water - plus importantly its mating surface in the exhaust. There are used ones available and they do go wrong so it could be its just failed plain and simple. The process really is very easy and frankly if you have access to the basic tools required you'll not have wasted anything trying. Turbo swap is going to be hefty I imagine. I have found, as have you, that a slow smooth ride seems to take longer to get the dash light off at the end of the process than one with a bit of mixed driving. Only once have I had to drive 10-15 miles. Check out the other comments made on here too. Another option could be to test the Nox sensor after the injector, I've heard of people changing them regardless but usually its not the issue..

      @GHOOGLEMALE  Год назад

      Hi Fred - I'm not familiar with the cleaning device you describe, but from what I have found, the removal of the injector (even easier on your vehicle because you have good ground clearance) cleaning the injector and fitting hole should be sufficient. A basic code reader to clear down the system of codes is required. Some have found that just clearing down the codes can buy you some time, and resets the countdown from the 515 miles to no restart, but if the injector is blocked it will return all the quicker. Hope I've understood your question correctly but if not drop me a line. Regards

    I have a 2016 Range Rover HSE and this error code (incorrect diesel exhaust fluid quality detected -no engine restart possible) popped over the weekend. Dealer service notes reads: "Found diesel particulate filter clogged and unable to regenerate. Necessary to remove and replace DPF and DPF injector and perform DPF regeneration in order to verify that the DEF pump/tank assembly is working properly" - the cost is an estimated $7,700 US. Can this be correct? Can the video fix and the comments below be relevant to the 2016 Range Rover? Thanks for any insights.

      Hi - yes, almost certainly this will fix the issue - it is exactly the scenario produced and is from late 2015 onwards. The fix your Dealer is offering is very common for this problem, which is basically change everything in the system- if you cannot do the job yourself, just take it to a mobile mechanic and ask them to clean the adblue injector and its fitting hole in the exhaust, then to do a Clear Dtc Code procedure on a basic code reader - the job should not take them longer than 1 hour max ( note, it almost certainly will not even show any codes, but still tell the reader to clear codes) or just follow my video .
