Ace Attorney Investigations ~ Turnabout Teleportation (2017 rerun) [ENG SUB]

This is the 2017 rerun of Turnabout Teleportation, a play based on a scrapped case from Ace Attorney Investigations 2, though no spoilers or characters will appear from that game. The original 2016 run was already subtitled (here: • Ace Attorney Investiga... ) by Rayne :D. Since this is a rerun, the vast majority of lines are the same, and there are only a few small differences and some changes in actors. Therefore, I recommend watching the 2016 version first, as most of the subtitles are from that video.
With the help of Rayne, all the new scenes have been translated; however, as both of us are still learning Japanese and by no means fluent, there may be inaccuracies. Anyone who is better at Japanese and notices a mistranslation is free to leave a correction in the comments! Similarly, let me know if there are any errors in formatting I may have missed.
(Particularly, the part with Gumshoe at the beginning - if it's confusing that's because I'm confused. Please help.)
In addition, I made some changes to the original lines - namely, I rearranged the names to be in first followed by last name order to be consistent with the other characters. This may sound odd at times. I also arranged things a bit if they were voiced differently in the rerun compared to the original so that the timing of things or phrasing of sentences didn't seem weird, and changed a few sentences to contain key words that pop up near the end (you'll see). Some key phrases such as Asukai's catchphrase were changed between videos too when Rayne re-evaluated the subtitles.
Since this video is public now, the obligatory disclaimer: Ace Attorney and its characters belong to Capcom, I do not profit off of this video in any way, and this is just available to make this stage play accessible to English-speaking fans who would not be able to experience this otherwise. If you enjoyed, please consider buying the original play to support the creators.

I'll put a list of some of the highlights that are different between the two plays, if you're just looking for differences! If you haven't watched the 2016 version there will be spoilers below.

1:05:55: new transition scene 3. Tragic loss of breakdancing Gumshoe but this is a serious scene so.

1:24:46: new transition scene 4. Edgeworth drinks Luminol.
1:30:33: not actually a new scene but they're clear it's in the prison now instead of a mysterious new dimension, so that's a plus.
1:39:37: vocabulary lesson (logic scene)

1:58:25: Two new scenes: Edgeworth encouraging Mamoru, followed by Edgeworth pretending he doesn't like Steel Samurai.
Also, once more a warning for plot spoilers: with this one, pay attention to where the characters stand. Edgeworth & Co tend to stand on the white squares of the chessboard, whereas the killer and Asukai (and Yaichirou, for a while) stand on the black squares. This results in some cool things such as Yaichirou jumping from a black square to a white square when proven innocent, and Tenma pushing Asukai onto a white square when he confesses. It's such a neat detail.

In first run Oldbag says... Something about looking like Anne Hathaway. Also, these epic effects during Oldbag and Larry's fight are just 10/10

I noticed that the guy that looks like a nerd with a bow tie always stands in the line between black and white squares in the beginning. There wasn’t much known about him, after all.
Okay, so first of all. Edgeworths actor is really good. I dont really know what to point out specifically, hes just really good.
But also, I really like how everyone (but especially the actors for Gumshoe and Larry) just look like they are having fun

They seem to be good friends in real life too! Oldbag's actress posted a picture of the three of them together recently (link: twitter.com/kugedegozaimasu/status/1465546900594053125 which was apparently taken two years ago?) and I believe Gumshoe's actor co-hosted a birthday celebration for Larry's actor with him just a few weeks ago. Since they more or less had a central cast for the first three plays (Spotlight, Farewell, Teleportation) it's cool to see that they're keeping in touch and are friends still!

I don't even know why but the scene with Gumshoe judging Larry about the weight he gained is funny. His defeated "ramen." got me so much. Never offended me as a larger person but DAMN same though.
I think it's especially funny because you can both here them laughing. The whole conversation was no doubt improvised and it's pretty obvious neither of them could keep a straight face.
Edgeworth is somehow more traumatized/ freaked out in the rerun and I love it

I miss a lot of things like breakdancing Gumshoe and “HOW MUUUUCHHHH~!!”, plus other little details like more crowd interaction. However, this play felt more lighthearted with Larry and Gumshoe losing it in the beginning, and a lot of other cast members acted more friendly! Plus, not just Kay but the others wanted to see Mamoru’s photos and it was so cute wahhhh

Aaaah thanks for subbing! I watched it today with some friends and we are still missing Gold Medal to watch all of them but so far this was definitely my favorite one!!
Just one detail, at 1:25:15 Ema is saying 油断せずに行きましょう, which is the same as 油断せずに行こう, the catchphrase of the character Wada Takuma (Edgeworth) played in the Prince of Tennis musicals during 2011-2012. They usually translate it as "Don't let your guard down", and that's why then he says "Somehow that sounds familiar". Nothing too important, but I thought it was a nice reference!
Ooh thanks so much for pointing that out!! I'll be sure to update the subtitles (eventually) to reflect that - I don't know much about Prince of Tennis at all but have some friends who love it haha. It also gave me some context to the digest which has this same bit but Ema says "まだまだだね" afterwards, which I did look up to try and find appropriate context and just found prince of tennis references... which was the proper context the whole time. So this cleared up a lot for me, thanks so much again!

I've been a huge Prince of Tennis fan for over a decade now and I find super funny how most male stageplay actors actually debuted as Tenimyu actors hahaha (And even some seiyuus like Mamoru Miyano or Toshiki Masuda, it's almost 20 years of musicals after all)
Actually, another fun fact is that Larry's and Gumshoe's actors were in it in the same generation so they have known each other since at least 2009! No wonder their improvised bits were so good-
@@EraiErai Wait, I knew Edgeworth and the first Phoenix were in Tenimyu, but I didn't realize Larry and Gumshoe were too. It seems the "HOW MUUUUCH?!" guy from the first Teleportation was also Higashikata in the same generation as Takuma Wada (Edgeworth).
So the latter went from one of the Jimmies to a guy who steals the show by headstanding in a shrine.

I truly love how much more expressive Mitsurugi is in the rerun. I loved his portrayal in the original, but I love how he was done in this version even more. And I agree with a lot of the comments that say they miss the original "HOW MUUUUUUUUUCH" but the new one is still hilarious, so I'm ok with it.
The new jiage lost his "HOW MUUUUUCH", true, but i like that his "making the traditional village be modern helps it, actually" angle is more pronounced here. Makes him less like a one-dimensional evil type.

i do like the timing for the music and the 'attack' at the beginning from the first run, same as the yelling from the 'corpse' during the Little Thief moments. I have to wonder though Grace, to get such high quality footage........... HOW MUUUUUUUUUUUCH????

To be honest, this is a great recreation/rerun of the show! It showed a slightly more realistic flow of things, for example the murder of the victim herself, as her fight with her assailent and her death seemed a but more logical: unlike last time, she wasn't hit head on whike she was choking the guy (which was a but hard to believe seeing how both were positions and how their arms were positioned as well), but she through them onto the ground, looked away for a few seconds, and then the assailent attacked her from behind while she wasnt looking. Plus, that larry wasnt just besides the ded victim for teh entire filming of the scene we see in the beggining, but was on the othee side of the set, explaining how he may not have noticed her being dead a bit more convincingly.
I do have one peobkem...yaichirou 😂 i do not have a problem with the character itself, he is one of the best in the show! I just...dont like his portrayal here. In the original play, his look was much more elegant and formal: he almost always wore the hat, his suit was always buttoned up perfectly, and the actor had an amazing vouce that, even in the most stupid moments of the character, raduated oure charisma. And thats what made that portreyal so much better, as the fact that he looked so formal made his antics and funny moments even funnier. Heck, even his "HOW MUUUUUCH?~" was so much better! The actor in this version did a good job, but his voice, behaviour and new take on yaichirou's looks leaves much to be desired.

I really enjoyed these stage plays! Thank you so much for uploading them! It's really fun and interesting to see the differences between the previous version and this rerun version. Edgeworth's my favourite character from the games so it's really a treat to be able to watch the story twice hehe.
Anyway, I wonder if all of the music used in the play are from the games' OSTs or if there are some that they made specifically for this stage play? I recognize some of them such as Emma's theme, etc. but there are also some of them which are new to me. I'm really obsessed with the intro music for some reason :3 would be lovely if I can get the name for the intro music.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!! As far as I can remember (though I may have forgotten something) most of the music is from the game OSTs for AAI and AAI2, with the exception of Asukai's theme when he's introduced during the Psychic Academy Sigma show, the song that plays in the dance scene transitions in the original run, the song when Asukai is talking about the power of the Dragon's Scale to Kay around an hour and a half in, and the character introduction part (which is a remix of pursuit~ wanting to find the truth). (Since I'm not 100% sure what you're referring to by intro music - the one that starts playing around 16:25 is the remix of Pursuit~ wanting to find the truth, the pursuit theme for AAI2. I haven't found this specific version outside of the plays, though. The intro music as in the very first music that plays is from AAI, "Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth ~ Prologue".)
