    Born and raised on the South Side in South Shore and I also remember the 79 blizzard, I was 8 yrs old. My family moved to Mississippi in 1984 to care for my ailing grandmother. I remember my Dad had an Audi that would plow through the ice and snow when many people struggled to maneuver through the snowy ,icy streets. The winters and crime are the ONLY things I don't miss about leaving Chicago. I will always love my city and be proud of it. One thing I noticed about Chicago is the changing of the green lightpoles that once defined the streets. I noticed in your video Sunnyside, Campbell and N. Ashland Avenues still have the green lightpoles .If you entered the city from any suburb, you'd notice the difference between whatever lamp posts they had and Chicago's. Most of the neighborhood and main streets used the green poles. The parks and boulevards used the same design of the poles except they were beige colored. Nowadays many of the green poles are being replaced with the white generic "hospital parking lot" poles as I call them. I wish they could've just manufactured new poles with the same design as the classic ones. Those lightpoles ARE Chicago!! As always, I miss the FOOD!!! No city has food like Chicago. I'll probably never move back home,but I always visit my hometown.....Chicago,Illinois 60649

Cities try to keep roads clear but they don't remove the snow..It might take 3 days to get the stranded cars and truck out of the way. Chicago allows parking on 500 miles of streets during spring to fall. Dec 1st to March 1st its open season for city and private tow companies to remove these parked cars during the snowfall season. After about a week they try to remove the snow the have plowed up on the curbs and sidewalks. I'm sure if it was possible to walk over 4 foot drifts and plowed snow.. more people would be doing it.

      @chicago4k542  4 года назад +3

      Lol, yeah thats a long time to watch it. Thanks for watching. Now I know people actually sit and watch it for that long. This was a much bigger snowstorm than the last one I recorded, so I used a Kia Soul this time. It's much higher off the ground than the Elantra, and prevents the snow from scraping the bottom of my car and potentially getting stuck on the unplowed side streets.
      There was few times I did get stuck. If you pause the video at 1:14:23, you'll notice a pile of snow across the street. I pushed my luck and tried
      going through that at higher speeds and got stuck for 30 minutes. Thats why the video cuts off. I did have a shovel to dig myself out. But, I must say, the car is great in snow for a front wheel drive.

    where did the snow end up going? was it all loaded up and hauled away by the city?

    • @chicago4k542
      @chicago4k542  3 года назад +1

      No, not in a big city like Chicago. Snow is put in wherever space most people or cars don't occupy. Sidewalks can even be a narrow path if need be. Like to send some to snowbirds who ditch Chicago for the Winter lol

      No it's not difficult Chicagoans are use to this. I was born and raised in Chicago its nothing. We just keep moving doing what we have to do. We never let to cold or snow bother or stop us.

    I'm a San Francisco native...still live here...we have had snow "storms" every 10-20 years...when these rare situations happen...the1" fall makes local headlines! The largest snow fall was back in1888...about 8"! The vehicles look like marshmallows!
