This is one of the most interesting uploads here in youtube in general and in NBS's uploads in particular: Cellist Hidemi Suzuki draws from his own cultural origins (the Rakugo art-form), implementing their principals to totally another culture, so to speak: that of Bach's cello suites. However, these 2 forms are not so far from each other, in principal. Playing a solo instrument (or acting solo as in Rakugo) is always hard. Playing many characters on a single instrument is much more harder. Mr. Suzuki did it so naturally and lightly. His approach was particularly reflected in the Gavotte and Gigue. Bravo and thanks NBS for giving us various multicultural beautiful and interesting interpretations of Bach's works.
I could imagine the entire fifth suite could sound just as much at home with an entire string quartet or an orchestra to complete the voices the cello only gets to hear one at a time. Very peculiar indeed.
