40 years ago on this day (Thanksgiving) I was onboard Enterprise in the middle of a West Pac cruise. We pulled into Mombasa Kenya for the holiday, so it was Tusker beers and giant prawns for Thanksgiving dinner out in town! I was a newly initiated 19 year-old Shell Back after crossing the equator just days before. My squadron served a total of about a year and a half onboard returning home to Alameda at the very end of April. She was a great ship and the first of many carriers I'd come to serve and later fly off of. Always had hot water and heat! She weathered some very heavy seas that scared the .... out of all of us. Green water over the bow is NOTHING to take lightly. But she kept us safe and I will always look back with pride and a wry smile for all of the foolishness that we as young sailors got away with. My 1/350 Enterprise model is in the very beginning stages of construction and will have CVW-11 from my cruise embarked. Your project looks fantastic, she is a BIG Model! I have a 1/350 IJN Kaga model that when plaved next to the BIg E looks even smaller than your WWII boat! Happy Modeling!
Thanks Gene, that means a great deal to me.Looking at the old girl again earlier this yea made me decide to build up the carrier strike group to accompany here. JJ, the Enterprise, CVN-65 was launched September 24th, 1960, so it was built and went through sea trials in 1958-1961. Just an FYI. I was a pilot in VA-94 before she was sent off for scrap. The new Enterprise will be commissioned near or around November 2025. The original Enterprise, CV-6, was launched October 3rd, 1936. I was in the first naval battle since WWII on April 18th, 1988 in the Strait of Hormuz and had the pleasure of dropping a walleye down the smokestack of the Iranian Frigate, The Sahand. Have a great day and keep up the great work! That is an amazing model you have there. How many total hours would you say it took you to finish this project? I always say that model kits are like writing a novel. It is never finished, they are abandoned. You can always find something to do that you missed the first time around. Take care, CG
When I was on the Big E in 01-02 we were hearing that the next Enterprise was gonna be CVX-65 that would be on like pontoons with the middle high so subs could go under it and transfer people or stuff. Yeah that was all false haven't seen shit about anything like that since 😂😂. Hopefully the new Enterprise won't have a water contamination problem which was jp5 jet fuel in our water supply and other ships as well.

Well here I am again for the 3rd time building the 1:350 scale U.S.S. Enterprise I want to build in to it a hanger deck cause I have a ton of aircraft for it would you have any tips for me to make it just a bit easier to build
Great build. I'm looking into building Enterprise CV-6. Would love to do the 1\200 scale, but at 49 inches long I don't have the room to build or display it.
Nicely done, but you should have selected the Planes acordingly - You should not have added the F-18E/F from Hasegawa! If you put Superbugs on that Deck, you have to remove the Tomcats, Corsairs, Intruders, Vikungs and Seakings. Better to remove the Superbug and put F-18C/D on the Deck, even if it is still weird to have them combined with Intruders and Corsairs, they could at least play some Kind of mixed Squadron Deployment right at the Time of the F-18 Introduction on NAVY Carriers!
That's a pretty dangerous situation, with the Hawkeye landing while a Seahawk is hovering over the deck. Better catch the wires or there's gonna be trouble. Also, I'm not completely sure about this, but it looks like you've got the launching F-14 pitching up before it reaches the end of the cat. The plane wouldn't start pitching up until it's clear of the deck. But I'm not 100% sure of that. It certainly can't pitch up until the nose wheel has detached from the cat. EDIT: On closer look, the nose wheel is clearly free of the cat.
I totally enjoyed watching your model kit. I’m building a smaller version 1-700. I’d like to know what colors you used. I’m so undecided where and what colors to use.
Beautiful model but it is absolutely painful to see aircraft positioned in a manner which they could never be. For instance, what kind of tractor can get the nose of a tomcat that close and facing the deck edge? Even if it could, how could they start it up and get it out of there? Foul deck with an E2 on the ramp? ABHCS here with 6 carriers including Big E.
Great model, just like you I like to collect 1/350 ships, my USN I have 4 carriers alone with a wide range of escort ships and subs, do you do any other navy, all mine are boxed up and will be started when I feel comfortable, also I have been trying to find any new parts for the Enterprise to be in the 2015 - would you know where I might get them?
